Help Odd free space calculation.

Krusilius

Lurker
Hello. I just received an Samsung Galaxy Note 3. On the box it says it should have 16 gb space. I understand it shouldn't be exactly 16 gb and 15,27 is normal. But the free space calculation just don't add up.

Check out these images:

And here is how it appears on my pc when connected through usb cable:

I have already searched around for other problems like this one and I found two solutions.
Resetting the phone to factory settings, that didn't work.
Installing some sort of device analyzer, it showed the size same as my pc did.

This phone is bought in Asia, and might be some cheap version. But these calculations are strange.

Has anyone else had this problem here and maybe knows a solution?

Thank you,
Krusilius.

Actually, 15.27GB (1,024 bytes per KB) is almost exactly 16gB (1,000 bytes per kB). Since you have 6.55MB used, rounding to 2 decimal digits would account for the 1.31/1.32 difference. Where is the rest of the 14.68GB? It's probably partitioned into a system partition, a recovery partition, etc., leaving you with a 1.32GB storage partition.

It sounds like a Note 3 clone, not a Note 3.
