Root Odin download help?

Well its not going good. Ive been attempting to flash 2.3.6 but my laptop and odin fail to recognise the device when its in download mode. I think its something wrong with the drivers, maybe im installing them wrong so i guess i need to do more research.
 
Was able to update the phone last night... she's now on 2.3.5. Not sure if I'm gonna have time today to do anything - turns out we're going to town to see a friend and give him his Christmas present. If I don't get it sorted this weekend/Monday (as I've been having issues with the USB ports on the computer/usb cable, I will do it over Christmas/boxing day on my bro's laptop :)
 
Well i got the drivers to properly install and have successfully installed 2.3.6 XXJW4. I then successfully rooted the device and am waiting to install Cynageon mod. Will do more research before installing that. I wouldnt want to brick it know ;)
 
Yeah... I downloaded Odin and all the other files and followed the instructions.

At first, when updating, Odin failed and I unplugged the phone. The phone was then showing a "phone -> ! -> computer" on it... I thought it was toasted... wouldn't turn off/on... I just put it back in to download mode and then it worked! :)

Ended up just going with CM9 that was linked in the XDA thread, as was in a rush before going to the shops. Before she gets chance to get the phone set up how she wants, I will have to try and flash something else though!! :)
