Help Odin3 One-Click Downloader question

I was trying to upgrade my phone before work, but it was taking longer than I thought and I had to go to work, so as bad as I didn't want to, I had to unplug it while it was upgrading (from 2.1 to 2.2). Long story short, I'm trying to restore the factory settings with Odin3 One-Click Downloader.

I was just wondering how many people have used this to restore factory settings? How long did it take?

It got stuck at Sbl.bin (30 mins +) for a while, and now it's stuck at factoryfs.rfs.

I'm just wondering if it's really frozen or that it just takes that long? And how long does it normally take? It's taking so long that I'm worried that my phone's battery will die before it's done.

It should NOT have taken longer than say 5 minutes. The battery won't die during ODIN because it's actually being powered by the USB.

HOWEVER - Ultimately, you will have to unplug it - Its not going to finish the ODIN process. You will almost surely have a brick - It's just a matter of how bad.

One question, what batch is your phone?

Well looks like I'm buggered too.

Here's a link to a screen capture of my Odin3 screen. (twitpic.com/4c82wb) I can't seem to find any good resource that will tell me what that "FAIL!" means or what to do about it and I'm hoping you good people can help. Any ideas?

Just for some context, I started this particular Odin session with a non-working phone and stuck on the "phone-------!-------computer" image. I was properly in Download mode and Odin had recognized my phone when I clicked "Start" though.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!

Just some background as you may or may not have this issue. There is an issue where some of the captivates have the 3 button disabled to get into download or recovery mode turned off (with phone off, press and hold the up and down volume buttons and with Odin up and running, plug in the USB cable to enter download mode). The issue if you cannot get into download mode, you cannot flash with odin. Some people have been able to use the usb plug thing to get it into download mode, so hopefully you do not need that.

As for odin, Try this version {Stock Rom} Odin JF6 with 3 button fix - xda-developers it is like odin except it has 2 files (odin.exe, pit and pda files). This version replaces a file the keeps the 3 button working no matter what happens. You must be able to get your phone into download mode from being 100% off. If odin does not reconize your phone, then you will need to pull the battery. But there may be an ISSUE if you pull your battery, if your 3 button does not work, you will not be able to get into download mode and may be bricked. Best of luck

15 should be the total time, so yes something went wonky. The good thing is it flashed the PIT file, so unplug the phone, pull the battery, restart odin (make sure you right click on odin and run as administrator), add the files to odin, hold the volume buttons and plug in the phone. Then once odin turns yellow, hit start.

Thanks so much for this thread. I flashed a custom Kernel and my phone wouldn't boot. Tried running Odin and it kept freezing. Taking out SIM/SD card and running Odin in administrator mode made it work like a charm!

I have on my screen:

odin3 download mode
(protocol v2)
Reason: force key
Secure mode: nonsecure
check signature: check
waitting usb cable...
==> connected! Press the [start] of Odin3!

The picture shows only green Odin (not moving)
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!

And it is for hours. There is actually no connection with Kies.
After pressing Power button, again this appears.

Obiously there was a problem with upgrading but I cannot resolve it. Please help!

I am in a similar situation. After application of the Odin3 one click to restore to factory stock, I am unable to enter 3 button download mode. In order to try and regain the ability for 3 button download, I used Kies to reupgrade the unit, which was successful in updating unit but I can no longer get the three button download mode by any of the methods I've read about, including:
1. three button press (I got it into it for Odin, so I know I was doing it correctly).
2. phone off, both volume keys held, and plug in USB. Tried this with USB connected to both computer and charger.

I can still get to reboot recovery mode through ADB, but since I'm upgraded have to have the signed update.zip, so I can't get that route to work. If I can get odin to recognize unit and flash back to stock again, I understand the path now to get to where I want to be, but I don't know if I can get there without going back to odin. Odin sees my phone (in USB debug mode, connects to COM port).

So, to summarize:
1. Is there a method to get odin to recognize download mode using reboot recovery, or another method I haven't detailed above?
2. Is there any way to use the reboot recovery to move off of where I am?
3. Will the USB Dongle, if I build one, get me into download mode?

Otherwise, I guess I'll have to be happy with the stock rom with update! Thanks for your help.

Yes a usb jig should be able to get you into download mode, since you said you could enter recovery mode. Thats probably your best option right now if your button combos wont work. Not too sure about 2.2, but try either VOL +/- and turning on the phone to see if you can get into DL mode. And I'm just wondering, what exactly are you trying to do, upgrade to GB or flash a custom 2.2 ROM?

I found this page because I had the same problem...
Started when Flashing via Odin One-Click back to factory ROM...
Odin just stuck on "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!" for over an hour... had to unplug it and my Cappy was bricked...
Made a USB Jig and it went right to DownLoad Mode
Started the one click Odin again...
this time made it to "factoryfs.rfs"
and froze...
I realize I did not tell it to "Run as administrator" so want to try again
but I can't even get the screen to turn on at all... VOL bttns pressed, USB Jig... nothing works.
I am thinking maybe (even though on USB power) the battery drained... is the only thing that would make sense!
Will borrow a btty from some one at work who also has this phone and try again...
Hopefully it will work
