Help OE gets HOT(!!) when using 3G or on long call

Lurker
Happens mainly when an app (like MLB At Bat) uses 3G. I can see battery level drop like a rock (maybe 20 points in 10-15 minutes). Heat is felt in camera lens area, but camera use does not generate heat. Also gets hot during a longish call (4-5 minutes) but these are rare for me. It's definitely not a battery thing - battery is cool when pulled from hot phone. I use the DATA ON/OFF app (which controls 3G) and phone cools when I switch data off. Had the phone maybe 8-9 months before I noticed this. FWIW I have preferred network set to CDMA auto (PRL). Can anyone help?

This has been reported on the Elite before. It used to happen to me when I had mine. Seems to be caused by heat generated by the radio. Seems to happen worse on 3g than voice.

3g eats battery on the Elite.

The heat is from the antenna/processor, and is partially affected by the strength of your connection to the tower. The lower your signal strength, the more power the antenna needs to transmit/receive, the hotter things get.

If you have a big heavy case for the phone, that won't help things either. Although if it's insulated enough you won't feel the heat. I'll talk on the phone for as long as a half-hour at a time most days, and the phone often gets uncomfortably hot against my face. It's not an issue unique to the Elite, my S2 gets just as hot when talking.
