Offical Samsung Desk Stand

I have recently got the official samsung desk stand and have a question. When the phone is docked it goes into 'dock mode' which shows a new screen with a few shortcuts which is fine. You can plug a charger into the back of the dock and your phone will charge.

The problem is though, that i have the dock at work, and i have a usb data cable plugged into the back. Whilst the phone will still charge through the data cable, the phone doesnt know its plugged into a computer, and so cannot transfer files/sync. I have tried usb debugging mode, and usb mass storage mode, but i just get a message saying to connect a data cable.

Does anyone know of a way around this? all i can think of is to fire up kies air every time i want to do any transferring, and i'll just have to unplug the cable from the stand and connect it directly to the phone if i want to sync.

just to eliminate the obvious...

1) have you tried plugging it on a different port?

2) did you use a thicker usb cable?

yes, i've checked all that. I think its more a case that the stand physically doesnt pass through the data signal. Having had a look at some other stands, some specifically state that you can sync and charge at the same time. for some reason it appears that Samsung have disabled the data connection.

The same goes for the MHL port, you cant dock the phone, and have a MHL adapter connected at the back. Again, there are specific docks that do provide this pass through functionality. Shame samsung decided to disable these functions.

I have this dock. It makes a lovely bedside clock, but as you say, it won't sync data over the USB port. It says as much in the instructions that come with the dock, so there is no way around it I'm afraid.

i have just received the kidigi dock from mobile fun. This dock does allow the pc connection whilst it is docked, but it does not activate the 'dock mode' and therefore the clock that comes with it. The stand is fairly similar to the samsung one, not quite as good, half the price, and doesn't allow you to hold the phone in landscape mode.

Does anyone know if there is a way of enabling the permanent clock that you get in dock mode without having to dock the phone? presumably the phone is capable of displaying it without being docked?

I've got a similar dock that doesn't bring up the bedside clock.

I use ALARM CLOCK PLUS

It looks exactly like the stock bedside clock so assume it lives on the back of it. You can set it to trigger when plugged into any usb connection/dock

You can manually trigger it outside of the dock too

It has also a time setting if you don't want the clock to appear when docked. During the day, I set it so it doesn't trigger the clock when docked but does in between 11pm-6am

I have a question, can the Samsung dock be used with a very think case? (SGP ultra thin air). From the photos, it seems impossible, I am just making sure.
