Help Official 2.3 Gingerbread update available (EH09)

A new update is available. It fixes some bug issues and has some new yet minor enhancements. Firmware version 2.3.5 build is EI20. I had the update flashed yesterday at the store. So far no more screen lock up.

Where did you see this update available from? I just checked USCC's website for Android updates and it still shows EH09 as the latest.

I hope its not another Kies' update... xD

I've NEVER upgraded my phone so I really don't know what i'm doing and I've had it since december 2010. I have downloaded the upgrade tool from us cellulars site but when i open the upgrade tool I do not have the next button as indicated on the install guide. It only gives me the exit button. My computer is an xp so I don't understand whats going on here. I've been at it for like 3 hours now and i'm done, it's just not worth it. So if anyone else had this problem and got it resolved I would really appreciate it if you would share your knowledge with me before I throw my computer out the window  :(

I know the frustrations you're going through as I had the exact same problem. Unfortunately, for some reason, Windows XP does not recognize the Mesmerize as a compatable device until you install the drivers. The drivers, however, I not installed from the phone upon connection nor can they be downloaded via Windows' Update installer. You have to go to Samsung's website and download the driver manually.

After you install the proper driver (make sure its for the SCH-I500) reexecute the USCC program to update the phone. This time, it should work perfectly.

It's only available from a tech/service store. I would never do a Kies's update. lol

Fortunately, they killed off the Kies updates with the 2.3 update.

USCC has had a pattern in the past of releasing firmware upgrades to tech centers first, then releasing them to the website 7-10 days later. They did that with the 2.2 "patches" a couple of times.

Well that's good to know. Kies was a menace for my computer.

I'll keep an eye out for the update on their website considering there isn't a tech center anywhere near where I live. =/

I was just going to take it to us cellular store and have them do it but is there any advantages or disadvantages having the store do it versus installing those drivers I need and upgrading it using my pc? Or dos it really not mater

The method they use at USCC is more tech-like and guarantees a successful update. However, the method done on your PC is just as effective, but you have to be careful. If you disconnect the phone from the PC during the update or even have a power surge/outage and your PC shuts off mid-install, it could potentially brick (to make completely unsalvagable) your phone.

I did it at home with no problems. Just make sure all wires are secure and all animals (if any) are away from the PC (personal story with that).

Let the phone take as long as it needs to install the update and restart itself to initiate the boot sequence. It's well worth it.

Well thats scarey!!! I may just take it to the store because im not sure I want to risk losing connection/power and destroy my phone lol

Well, you should be fine as far as normal conditions go. Depending on where you live, just check the weather for bad storms or something. Otherwise, if something does happen to the phone during installation, just have USCC replace it. Since you're doing a normal update that is provided via USCC it should be covered under the replacement program.

A little side of good news, though, should your phone crap out on you and you request a replacement, the newly shipped Mesmerize will come preloaded with the latest updates.

It's really not a big deal. If you've ever updated an iPod or Blackberry, you can update the Mez.

The only reason people in here get nervous about applying updates is because of how tragically awful the Kies update program was. But even that program updated your phone without any issue. It was the crap-ola that it loaded onto your phone that was the issue. Samusung or USCC, gratefully, realized the problem and got rid of it with the 2.3 gingerbread updates.

If you're familiar enough with electronics to plug in a USB cable and run the exe file, you're all set. Leave your laptop plugged in and you are good to go.

If you're like my wife and just don't like to bother with electronics, take it to a tech center or have a tech geek friend/significant other do it for you.

Yeah, I know that feeling. "Matt, my computer doesn't work." "Matt, my iPod wont connect." "Matt, my computer is running slow." "Matt, we need you to do this on the computer."

Being a tech-geek has its advantages, but its also a burden.

As LaTuFu said, if you're used to doing something as simple as connecting your iPod, phone, MP3 player, etc. to a USB port on your computer and running a file, you'll be just fine. :)

edit: After staring at my name while re-reading this post, I suddenly realized how unique my name is. o.O (Random, I know)

Ok well maybe ill go ahead and get the driver I need and do it at home... That is if I can successfully install this driver I need lol if not ill take it in

I cant even find the driver to download it lol only download I can find is the phome manual.... Ugh

Sorry for blowing up the boards but I found the driver (at least I hope its right one) and installed it but my next button is still missing. I even tried reinstalling the update tool but no luck.

I got i upgraded. never did get the next but I knew where the buttons were supose to be so I managed to just hit tab a few times and spacebar and got to the start download screen lol I do not like the keyboard though....... thanks everyone for your help

Just so you all know - we recently updated our mesmerizes to 2.3.4, and one had a problem where a bit got stuck somewhere, causing the "driving mode" voice synth caller-id "ringtone" to be stuck "on". The neat trick is that with this update, the menu item for "driving mode settings" is missing, and setting "driving mode" off does not affect this setting - because you can have that setting active when not in driving mode.

We had to do a factory reset to turn off the setting, which means all customizations and settings and apps were also blown away.

Hopefully, if (and hopefully when) they actually do post an update to 2.3.5 it has that missing menu entry added back in - otherwise there will be a lot of p.o'ed users that want to use the driving mode features but can't because the settings menu is gone.

I'm not a big driving-mode user, but that I can definitely see where that's annoying. When you did the system restore, did you do it from the Security settings or did you do it from the OS menu?

i'm having the same problem. mines grayed out. I tried to hit tab and space in all sorts of combinations and nothing happens. anyone else having this problem???

Some PCs don't automatically download the drivers needed. Use Google and search for Samsung Mesmerize (Fascinate) drivers.

Right click on desktop

Left click on personalize

Left click on display (In lower left of personalize window)

Set display to 100% and left click apply.

It may ask you if you want to log out so it can make changes. Go ahead and logoff and log back in.

Now when you run the:
"Samsung Simple Upgrade Tool for SCH-I500 EH09 " update software you should see the all the buttons in the program.

Good luck,
