Works terrific so far. Is there a summary anywhere on all the changes/upgrades? The new notification screen is a great start.

To save some of you the trouble:

OS upgrade to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)

  • Improved multi-tasking
  • Customizable widgets
  • Improved text input and spell-checking
  • New dictionaries for better error correction and word suggestion
  • Enhanced web browsing and personalization capability
  • Improved email management
  • New technology for better security options
  • Clearer menu formatting
  • Google Now with enhanced voice activation
  • Adds Browser bar, Drive Mode, ATT Locker, Mobile Hot Spot, Featured Apps widget as preloaded applications
  • Removes Qik and Mspot applications
  • TTY call quality improvement.

So glad they removed Qik! That app was always clogging up my memory. Um, not that I'm the preloaded ones they added won't do the same.

Good update but something is killing the battery

Edit: Wake lock detector app is picking up on Maps waking the device almost non stop...wonder if anyone else is having this issue

Why do we not have the NFC option with the new update? My sister got it with the new update on her S2. She is with T-Mobile.

Thanks!

Ive installed this update for 3 days now. So far its working fine and its smooth. My only concern is it consume the battery faster now. Usually im getting around 20 hours on the average when im still on ICS 4.0.4 but now im getting around 16 - 17 hours on the same settings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy that we have Jelly Bean FINALLY.

But is anyone else hitting "attachments" instead of "send" on text messages? Driving me NUTS.

And is there any way to change the look of the calendar?

Get an SMS replacement app like GoSMS, Handcent, chomp SMS, or PansiSMS. The attachment button is in a different place in all of those apps.

I wish the calendar color could be changed. I liked the ICS calendar appearance much better.

@cebu11: You're lucky you're getting that much. I get about 4-5 hours with most of that on idle. Google Now is the culprit. I turn it off and get the "normal" 20-24 hours or so

Silly question, but will updating erase all my apps, photos, preferences, messages, etc? If so what's your preferred back-up/restore method?

I didn't lose anything when updating.

However, you may not be so lucky. I have read the backups made using Kies do not work - I have backed up with Kies but never restored from Kies, so I can't comment on how well or badly it works.

To be safe, I simply connected my phone to my computer and told it to (I forget the exact wording) copy all pictures, video into a specified folder on my computer.

You can look on the Play Store for apps that will back up your data. Some require root, so pay attention to that if you haven't rooted.

Upgraded from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean and the battery is terrible. Have barely used my phone all day and its down to 50% at noon. Have reset the phone to factory and downloaded new apps, etc. How do you turn off Google Now? Dunno if that is running but alot of people say that is the main culprit. Any other tips would help...Missing Gingerbread badly...

Turn it off in settings after launching Google Now. You're definitely not missing GB..you're missing the battery life

Google Now is part of the Google app. If you open the Google app, tap the menu key, and go to Settings, that's where you will see "Google Now".

It took me multiple searches to find someone that finally explained that and didn't refer to the app as Google Now because that's not the app's name in the app drawer (not for me anyway).

I haven't gotten brave enough to update to 4.1.2. Still running 2.3.6. :-*

Have you that have updated, seen improvements in anything?

How is batter life now?

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2, BOOSTMOBILE phone.
I want to upgrade mine,..... but a month ago, an old friend who needed a place to shower, and some food to eat, which I was glad to help with both..... Decided she also needed my 2 laptops, my flat screen tv, and my printer. So I do think have a computer any.
Can I upgrade without a computer?
