OFFICIAL: All things Cupcake Thread

I don't have the cahones to try to root. Too worried about bricking or warranty voiding.

I have had four development phones in my lifetime as a software developer, and have bricked each and every one of them more times than I have had hot vindaloo's (and that my friend is a lot!). Each bricked phone can always be re-flashed with the original ROM, I have never had to throw a phone in the bin(trash) due to bricking it.

Saying that, I have no wish, need or desire to root or flash my G1 (yet)

if you have something to ask about cupcake please post here, I am just sick of hearing about it already and wasting time on 20 posts asking about it.

thank you...

I thought i had cupcake this morning as i got a text message saying

"per network message please delete"

After i deleted the phone turned itself off but there is nothing new on it when i turned it back on.

Has anyone in the UK had this message this morning?

Yeah I did, didn't know what it was, but I am on full 3G signal anyway

I had it too.

It's a network profile update. You may have been moved to a differnet voicemail platform or similar. Not G1 specific.

I have since heard that T-Mobile are looking into a problem where voice calls cannot be received during a data session (2G/Edge). This may be a fix for this issue

http://www.computerweekly.com/Artic...le-releases-android-cupcake-update-for-g1.htm

Hmm... Do you think they are talking about the PC emulator of the new Android build?

According to the article:

"The download of the Google G1 Android cupcake update is now available. The update has new features and various bug fixes.
The update features varous bug fixes but the most interesting features are video recording as well as playback and Bluetooth stereo support."

My phone went through a cycle yesterday and I thuoght cupcake waas coming............Wrong!!!!! guess still have to wait......Larry

The sidekick asked permission to update itself, even giving you the option of waiting 5 min. So you will know...in addition, as stated many times.

Give Google the courtesy of not being a noob. They will certainly use the chance to announce the cupcake branch is completed. Then it will be a rolling period of waiting until you have it.

Prediction: Expect to see many more posts like this, "I heard my friend/tmobile store manager/cousin got the update, and I didn't, boohoo/!@#$!/where's mine?"

Just excited about the potential of what we will be able to do. So far I really like the phone but having better functionality will really make this a great product.

I asked you this same question in another thread but what basic features are you referring to? I don't see any missing basic features I agree that cupcake will ad features that most of us want but please explain what basic features are missing....

well forget the basic features for a sec, thats not what im saying here, im just done waiting is all, i have been so excited for cupcake, and i really thought it would be by the end of the month and it didnt come, so now im just going to wait patiently

Im not updating to anything until the xda developers get their hands on it. I like my root access.
Im so sick of everyone talking about this update. (So sick of it I dont even want to type the word "Cupcake"). Who actually uses video recording often on a cell phone? And you already have a great keyboard people! Sheesh.

Well, it is not a phone/deal killer for me but, I shot more video on my SE 990i than I shot stills... It looks like the G1 might have the possiblity to decent/acceptable video but a lot of code work ... and the question of speed is of concern ... it is already painfully slow in shooting a single frame... My SE 990i was/is also capable of video phone so it was/is still my choice for video....

Nope, all the basic features are there, so I don't know what you're referring to. See, I read up on the phone, extensively before I got it. Read every preview I could find, and when it released, read all the reviews from folks who actually used it -- so that by the time I picked it up at UPS I knew what I had, and could return it. So no, not pissed. Delighted that Android will be improved, it wasn't that long ago that the features they've got planned would've been put into an upGRADE that we'd have to pay for. Considering that Android was free, the updates, improvements, and new features are all free, I'm not sure why anyone is pissed. Seems like some people have a runaway sense of entitlement.

agreed.... Like I said before the idea of cupcake has caused more buyers remorse and belief that these things are basic features... I, like you. read about it, talked to tmo about it, researched it and then bought it and when I got it 1 day before it was supposed to be delivered on the original release I was and still am happy with it...

is the RC33 a part of cupcake? Ive heard that maybe cupcake will be multiple smaller updates (like rc33) as opposed to one big one.
With all the excitement of cupcake. Im glad I got rc33...its better then nothing and lets me tinker with Latitude. That'll keep me content for another month.
Oh..and Ewing, NJ @ 7:05am is when/where I got RC33
