Thanks. Just went and checked through the APN settings without making changes. They looked OK. On exit 3G was working again. AOK and very happy to have the upgrade at last.

G3SNA: about 3G - just tested it (Im on 2.2 now) and it works perfectly, got 4mbps on speedtest.net, the only thing that I don't like after Nokia phone - there is seem to be no distinction with onscreen indicators, if I'm on 3G or simple GSM.

Yea, I see the "H" with "up/down" arrows when dataconnecting, but it's not that simple like just "3G" symbol I used to have on Nokia.

ps. my wife on 3G nearby got the "all bars" of connectivity, while I had only 2... but this might be case of her being on another mobile network...

Yeah I've got a feeling it reloads the APN settings from the SIM but doesn't "apply" them properly. Glad it's sorted.

That seems like Froyo.

Check the software information in the settings just to be sure :)

Checked on the phone's software information, says it's 2.2 but i don't have the Itunes sync that I have read about. Also I can't seem to download updates from appbrain as it says i only have version 2.1???

Where did you get your phone from? CPW/mobiles.co.uk sell unbranded handsets along with the contract.

Got it from CPW so i'm unbranded then :D

I note that you have taken out a contract with Orange. I was thinking of taking out a 500mb data contract with them, but am having trouble finding out how much I will be charged if I go over the useage. Can you help with that? Is it worth an extra

I haven't been anywhere since upgrading but previously I have seen it give the 3G icon when outside of a 3Ga (HSDPA) area. I got 1.28Mbps download and 732Kbps upload on broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk - speedtest.net gave me 2.64Mbps and 1.21Mbps ???

Has anyone in here seen an update from Orange? I'm being told "your phone is up-to-date"
I don't think the Orange update is due for another two or three weeks. There have been reports from Orange users tha they've had the update but I suspect these users don't actually have a branded Orange handset but rather a standard retail on on the Orange network, such as you've have got had you gone via CPW.

Virgin users: I was in the Virgin shop today asking about the update. The assistant said that they haven't heard either way if Virgin will be releasing it but she did say that the Virgin phones are unlocked and you could probably put in another Sim card (if you have one) and download the update from another provider when it becomes available.

Not sure this is 100% as I haven't tested my phone with another sim card and I guess if you put in another sim card the phone will still be Virgin branded and this may affect things as well.

Anyhow, I am going to wait till around December I reckon, before deciding on going down another route to update. Seems that the 2.2 is full of bugs at the moment and I am not in any rush to bug up my Desire. Working really well with 2.1

Just thought I would post info recieved today from the horse's mouth (she wasn't that bad)

I would take shop walkers comments with a grain of salt. It is being tested and with any organisation nothing is certain to be released. But there is no way that VM would not release it and other networks will. Its definitely being tested as we speak.

The phone might be unlocked, but that doesn't matter. If it has any branding, it will be a different build and therefore will not find the update until THAT build is also done.

Look I know the answer might be hidden away somewhere in this 36 page thread, but I can't find it....so sorry if this has been answered before....

Should my Vodafone handset that has been rooted, debranded and unlocked and is currently on software version 1.15.405.3 be 'seeing' the 2.2 update because when I do a manual check it just keeps reporting it's up to date?

Yep, if you're debranded and on a totally generic HTC ROM then you should be seeing the 2.2 OTA update when you do a check.

In fact you should be seeing the 1.21.xxx update before you see the full Froyo one so something's up there.

I'm already on 2.1-update1, that's the generic rooted firmware I flashed it to when I debranded it a few months ago. I started checking for the 2.2 update about a week ago, but it never finds anything.

Yeah the 1.15.405.3 is the generic HTC ROM that you flash with, as you say. The first update you should be offered is then 1.21.405.2, which still reports as Android version 2.1-update1. After that you should be offered 2.09.405.8, which is the Froyo 2.2 update.

There have been issues with people not being offered the 2.09.405.8 Froyo update for whatever reason (there seemed to be a period of about 4-5 days last week where noone could get it) but, AFAIK, you should be offered the 1.21.405.2 update without any problems at all, which suggests there's something weird going on.

Okay thanks. When I next get some time I'll try re-flashing with a generic ROM again and see if that kick starts the OTA upgrade process for me. Is there any particular ROM I should flash with, or maybe just the same one (think it's still on my goldcard)?

AFAIK, the 1.15.405.3 generic ROM is the only genuine HTC one available.

Out of interest, how long have you been trying to download the updates? If it's not that long then maybe the servers are just down or limited/throttled in some way and it'll start working again soon.

Probably been trying every now and again for about a week, or maybe a week and a half.

How can I get 2.2 to download? my software number 1.15.405.4 on virgin but not locked as I can use any sim. Boots with the Virgin Logo but no other branding that I can fine.

You have a Virgin branded ROM on there I'm afraid, the boot logo proves it as it'd be a standard HTC one otherwise. The SIM lock isn't relevant - branding is the customisation of the ROM image by the provider.

You'll have to either wait for Virgin to release their own version of the 2.2 update or else flash a standard ROM onto the phone.

I'm on Orange (from Carphone Warehouse) and I got the update 10 days ago.
Everything working fine on my phone.

That's because you have an unbranded handset :)

If you go via CPW, they just give you a standard retail handset from their stock, regardless of what network you're on. If you go to Orange directly, you'll get a branded one.

TBH, if I'd known this at the time, I might have investigate CPW a bit more but then I may not have got the same deal I did via Orange direct.
