Does 2.2 allow you to watch iplayer via the official website in the internet browser, or are u using a 3rd party app for it?

I'm watching via iplayer using the stock browser right now. This is over wifi here at my office. The router only runs at 3mb, incidentally.

The playback seems fine to me.

Finally I debranded my desire and installed froyo. Seems very nice so far but I was really hoping to watch 720p videos on my desire (not the ones I record, movies, tv shows, etc) but it still no go unfortunately.

Well, I do apologise. I did in fact see that message after I posted, and the reply but the reply said they didn't know when the release would be. No harm in re-asking the question - someone else may know a date. Therefore I didn't edit my question.

Anyone know the procedure for downloading this new 2.2 firmware version nothing seems to happen when I click on the link with the phone the phone is sim free and unlocked.
Regards

got this response from Virgin, waste of time - time to debrand

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your email to Virgin Media about software updates for your HTC.

Virgin Media do not provide software updates. These are available from the manufacturer directly.

You can access their site here.

Is the update to Froyo or 2.2, officially out for Desires on Orange? If so,will a phone I have yet to order, be likely to come with it on? If not, will it be easy for a complete novice to load?

A word of advice, Bertie, if you have yet to buy the phone: Get a phone with unbranded software. Aside from getting updates more quickly your phone will not be bloated with unwanted (and unremovable) features. Those carriers are tricky and may also disable features that are ordinarily available.

Carphone Warehouse, for example, will sell you an Orange handset, but it will not be laden with Orange software, since all their phones come unbranded.

Found this on Virgin Mobile help page .

Virgin called me tonight, and although they could not give me a date they did comment that they are very close with T mobile so it should be around the same time they release it which is September!!!

That is not a set date and might change and they promised to call me again once they know more.

I have to say the person who rang me was very good, infact the best person i have dealt with at Virgin so far

I thought the update was to record in 720p not that you could watch anything in any other p format???

but yes i think if over wifi you should get 720p+ if on say a youtub 720 p session.

Hey guys.

Dolphin HD doesn't adjust webpage text after I installed Froyo. I uninstalled and installed it again but it didn't help. Anyone have solution for this?

Can anyone say if 802.11n is now supported in the update? There were suggestions that the Desire has the hardware capability and this would be added with Froyo, but not heard any mention of it since...

What I've noticed with 2.2 is it adjusts the text if you double tap the screen, but not if you pinch and zoom in too far. After you've pinched and zoomed, double tap the screen and it should adjust the text.

I can't test this, but have read that it's still not 'n' enabled, despite the hardware apparently being compatible.

I just did the manually install etc from the geekword. Mine is a not-locked 3 branded desire. It worked. The unlock pattern didn't work, but after a restart it is working again. I went throug the applications, som could be moved to SD card, a lot couldn't. I haven't tested speed yet, but my impression is that it is much faster now.

I noticed one poster referring to signal problems after the 2.2 update earlier in the thread, but it's been quiet on that front for a while here.

Has anyone else seen problems in this respect since updating to 2.2? I often see good signal (3-4 bars), then when trying to use the mobile data connection the signal drops to nothing, and I lose connection entirely.

It's very frustrating, but I suppose that it could be the area I'm in right now.

Any thoughts?
Charlie

Im on T-Mobile and debranded my Desire, then got Froyo.
Thanks to a great guide on here (although i had to use a diferrent ROM from the guide)
All is great now, my battery life has improved as well as wifi signal which is great as i now get a signal in the garage where i go for a smoke.

I was in two minds about debranding, but the fiasco with vodafone made my mind up, i was getting Froyo before T-mobile released a bloated version of 2.2 (thanks voda 'i think? lol')

I would be in an absolute rage if i was on vodafone and they done that to me, i sympathise with all you voda users.

After how easy the debrand was im now thinking i should have just rooted!
Hopefully i can root at a later date. What do you think the chances of rooting 2.2 in the future are?

Great forums btw, been lurking alot and thought it was time i registered.
