OFFICIAL Android Feature Wishlist Thread

Okay easy access to the battery port for replacement, wish they would do a circle instead of a square for usb, because it gets so tired of running and, getting a replacement USB, sometimes. A mangetic circle one I did see on Instagram the other day too, I am wondering about that as well, we can do a million of tweaks with our OS though, but also replaceable camera lenses too, or put in the nifty tools to do that ourselves.

  • Replaceable battery
  • Phones that allow replacing the back to allow a larger capacity battery
  • Large capacity batteries for the (ridiculous) asking price, especially in the flagship arena. How on earth is it that a $1k+ phone still has the same capacity as a $99 flip phone is insulting to me.
  • Headphone Jack. Don't give me that "waterproofing" crap, phones were able to waterproof and have this feature. If you drop your phone in water once, lesson learned. drop it more than once, I'm convinced that you're just stupid and careless.
  • Some kind of mandate to open up access to the hardware needed for the community to be able to keep a phone going with custom ROMs after 2~3 years? Those of us who aren't on Linus money should be allowed to get our money's worth on a phone, and phone makers are all too quick to drop support for a phone anyway.

All very good points, @codezer0.

I never understood why the ability to remove batteries was done away with. If the only thing wrong with a phone is its dying battery, why on earth shouldn't we be able to replace it ourselves?

Just FYI on the headphone jack issue, Motorola [my brand] has added them back, I believe to all of its phones.

Linus? As in THE Linus, Torvalds? You've piqued my curiosity here! As a die-hard Linux-only person, I feel like I'm really missing something...

No, not that Linus... Linus Tech Tips Linus... the same Linus who:
  • overclocked a server
  • ghetto-rigged watercooling to a $24k network switch
  • made a brag video about upgrading their work internet to 10G internet access
  • whines whenever a new pc product doesn't have RGB in it
  • Demands about as many (thousand) lumens of RGB lighting as dollars it cost in parts
  • won't be caught dead without flashing a new flagship phone every week
  • built an all-rgb pc build, then trolled the people that didn't care for it by making an anti-RGB video by killing said former PC by way of dipping it in some kind of ultra-black paint without taking ANY of the necessary precautions
  • (Allegedly) has a crypto currency named after himself to stroke his ego
  • Will basically flood your YouTube algorithm if you watch any tech video ever; the amount of banning/blocking/dislikes I had to do to finally prune his ass off my feed is absurd
  • Has a separate channel on YouTube, of him literally throwing around and dropping pc parts, phones, rack servers, et al
  • Threw a laptop out of spite, killed a $10k intel cpu on camera, and then had the gall to call up intel to beg for another in the same video
  • (purely subjective on my part) has a voice that has me convinced, he's never actually passed puberty, yet somehow has a daughter
  • built said toddler daughter a new pc that was just casually better than the main pc I built myself after a literal decade of not even having the money or income to do so, let alone keep up

A Text to speech automated message which could be trigged by some sort of hotkey to explain why you are not a cheapscape for going android and how the hardware is often on par or better than its Apple counterparts for lower prices; I wish this was a joke however I end up explaining this multiple times every day and its a frustrating and dreary conversation.

My reply is very simple: choosing Android devices has nothing to do with being a cheapskate, but everything to do with freedom.

I'm a Linux user, so I'm accustomed to being in complete control of my computers, from how they look to how they work. I expect the same from my mobile devices, so I choose Linux [Android] for them, too. Try customizing a locked-down iOS device! You simply can't do on them what's possible on Android.

Finally, I'd hardly call $500-$1,000 [the price range I'm looking at for my next phone] CHEAP. :o

But to solve your problem:

- get a voice recording app; I like Easy Voice Recorder [mine is the paid version]

- record your spiel

- put a widget on your screen to play it

Done!

The ability to set a max charge for your phone without going thought the tedious process of rooting your phone so that I could keep my battery in good condition.

A gallery build inside the phone, without any means on downloading one via store, I know everyone will say "Hey you have Google photos." I mean a gallery of where you can put your music with each of your desired photos to be in that one, and then add into the different scores of movies you wanted to have.

I'm with @Mr.Javi along with real capacitive buttons instead of the virtual ones for back, currently running apps & home.

I don't understand this request at all. Why on Earth would I want a phone that doesn't let me choose and download my own gallery app?

And to be honest a gallery which links music to photos sounds like a niche product to me.

Hallelujah brother :)

That and an unlocked bootloader would be devine :)
Pixel 4a: it has a headphone jack, and you can unlock it yourself in a couple of minutes (as long as you don't do anything stupid like buy it through Verizon, who I'd expect will remove that option).

Thank you @Hadron , much appreciated my friend :). I will definitely look into that. Any chance it will be compatible with the US carrier networks?

I mean like if you have several photos that you want to keep inside each music folder. Seperated and find them really easy, instead of scrolling through several photos of clouds, people, trees even, then you will know "Hey there is my workers at heart." Share it really quicker that way.
