What is the problem with carriers in the US?........i read these posts where people say certain carriers won't, certain carriers will, do they have like a bidding system to carry the phone?.....or do some carriers just not feature all phones?.....seems very confusing for a Limey.
Each carrier here operates on their own radio standards, unlike most of the world.
Each model offered becomes a variation unique to its carrier.
While they're at it, the carriers tend to specify whatever changes they believe advantageous to them. Hardware, bloatware, name changes, carrier branding - even denial of HTCdev bootloader unlocking services.
The makers want as few changes as possible for production and marketing purposes, the carriers want as much as possible, and traditionally the makers don't just say no, for fear that the carrier won't take the product.
I have the only One X model in the world with an external sd card slot, kickstand and fundamentally different model name because of that.
Verizon is the most draconian, they've never allowed an HTC model name to escape unscathed. HTC isn't going for that with anyone. No one is fooled anymore.
That's why my first Verizon prediction here was that they'd get a Droid DNA update later this year as a One variant.
You're reading this correctly - at this time, the US is slated to receive 3 different versions of the One, all of which will be different than yours. Because of the radios.
PS - it also creates a unique suggested retail price issue. Because the models are different, they can each be given unique suggested manufacturer retail pricing, legally.
Yet another reason for no one announcing final prices yet, so far as I know.
