Just an FYI.. I've been troubleshooting this wireless nonsense. Compared kernel configs from working 10.2 builds with 11 word for word. I just recently installed a ROM that did not work last night but loaded adb while it was first booting. It may be a coincidence but the wifi that didn't work last night is now working. Nothing changed to the ROM just another clean wipe and trying to debug while it was installing/booting.

edit - /data/system/wpa_supplicant is a sym link to /data/misc/wifi which contains

config
entrophy.bin
p2p_supplicant.conf
sockets
softap.conf
wpa_supplicant.conf

sockets\ contains wlan0

I like where you're going with this. On my current build (not the most recent sync) /data/system/wpa_supplicant/ is a link to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/, which itself does not exist. As you pointed out /data/misc/wifi/sockets/ does contain wlan0 when the wifi is turned on. This may just be a simple issue of changing what sets that link on our builds. I'll try and look into this tonight.

Edit : can anyone on the new builds with bad wifi get me one line of information from the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf ? I need to know what your line ctrl_interface says. Mine correctly points to /data/misc/wifi/sockets . Please do not paste the full file as your wifi settings and passwords are also in this file.

Edit 2 : And I think I found the culprit that is doing the funky link. Still not sure why CM changed their wpa_suppicant code though. Anyways, init.iprj.rc has this line:

#Create the symlink to qcn wpa_supplicant folder for ar6000 wpa_supplicant
mkdir /data/system 0775 system system
symlink /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant /data/system/wpa_supplicant

Changing the first part to /data/misc/wifi/sockets "should" fix the issue. I'll do a build, and if it does fix the issue, I'll be pushing the fix to CM.

So, here's where I'm at now. After manually removing the old link, the new link generated corrected. Wifi turns on, but it does not scan or connect to any networks. It's a step, but it's a small step. I'm half tempted to manually replace the wpa_supplicant binary and see what happens.

I've been doing so many different builds I don't even know where I'm at now.. Mainly I'm trying to compare differences between 10.1, 10.2 and 11.0 which is why I'm all over the place.. I think I'll do a make clean, sync the repo's and start with a fresh cm 11 again. I've been focused on kernel differences but they're definitely no changes from 10.2 to 11.0. It was strange to me that SELinux went from Permissive to Enforcing but I guess that's in the prop somewhere and my focus has been in the wrong place.

My issue seems to be the firmware driver isn't loading. It displays the firmware message but doesn't include the file name like I've seen in other dmesg's on pastebin's. Neph what is your exact hardware? On the inside label mine says LG-VS920 H/W REV 1.2. Does that mean it's board revision B? Last kernel I compiled enabled boards A/B/C so I don't think that makes a difference.. There are more options which aren't compiled under MSM Board Selection that may or may not make a difference but I think this is purely CM11 file/dir/sym/permission error.

I'll restart my build now and paste the output of the wifi later.

Also where did you pull the proprietary blobs from? I'm using death2all's repo right now.

I'm tracing some files trying to put 2&2 together. These two lines are in vs920.mk

Ok here's my latest using a fresh 11 defconfig and I altered the correct symlink to point to /data/misc/wifi/sockets. The wifi loads but it hangs at searching for networks.

so 2 things to note. wlan0 does exist in /data/system/wpa_supplicant. it is the symlink and owned by user wifi group wifi. /data/misc/wifi/ipconfig.txt does not exist.. i'm assuming it should have dhcp options in it?

And of course, you guess it, the hotspot works. :)

The above dmesg doesn't spit out the wldev errors about setting the US channels.. My guess is that's the problem with the wifi vs hotspot ap ?

I'm reading this thread but it isn't helping..

https://code.google.com/p/cm9-wildfire-s/issues/detail?id=5

Other people in the past experienced this issue and added the country code to the SQL database manually. I'm doing the same but it hasn't had an affect. I can confirm 1 thing.. In wifi options on the phone, when I set the region it updates the global table located in

/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

It's not updating the secure table but I forgot to check if that value even existed before I added it in via the thread suggestions.

But still, even though it writes to the global table, I still get an error in logcat. I can only imagine this is a permission issue still.. Where the wifi service can't read from the database maybe?

I/WifiService( 579): WifiService trying to set country code to US with persist set to true
E/WifiStateMachine( 579): Failed to set country code US

Very cool ill check back to see how you make out. Last thing I thought was weird were 2 wpa_supplicant.Conf files.. I think

/system/etc/wifi
/data/misc/wifi

Both have different options I assume for mobile hotspot but im pretty sure they would use the same driver and socket still

Forgot to add.. I've never had working wifi on any kk based rom.. Cm11, pac rom.. Thats why I asked about the hardware. I figured since the first nightly it was due to selinux and id let them work out the bugs and mature a little bit.

Sorry that I missed this post earlier. My phone is H/W Rev : 1.2

I have my own git repos that I cloned from D2A and then started doing my own tweaks.
https://github.com/Neph81?tab=repositories

If you use my blobs and the official repositories from CM, you'll have an issue where it won't pull libtime_genoff.so correctly. When it errors out, just manually copy the file to where it say it can't find a way to build it. It's something to do with the way RMCC does the rtc time fix vs the way I do the rtc time fix.

That damned lib_time issue.. Hit that a while back I always symlink it before I build if necessary. It's funny I have a running list of "things to patch and link before compiling" on hand..

Sorry to cross post. That CM-11-20140314 nightly you posted in the other thread.. Wifi works for me in this image as you probably expected, but I can tell by the kernel name and SELinux this is probably still a custom image you built, correct?

CM-11 has been enforced for me since day one on the vs920.. I've noticed this image is Permissive. I don't know why but I'm really hung up on selinux being an issue. It's funny too in the image I built last night, disabling SELinux made a lot of errors disappear even though the wifi still didn't work.

I'm far from a developer but definitely a Cisco engineer. If an AP can't set it's region/band it won't know what channels or frequencies to operate on and definitely cause wifi to fail. symlinks/init.rc/firmware/config file location aside, this definitely seems to be a security restriction where the channels/band aren't set because the system isn't loading the driver and socket due to permission. I'm basing that off of the first nightly's that came out Enforcing and the reason I chose to stick with 10.1 until now.

Yes, my builds are a bit of a custom thing, as D2A did different work than the official repos, that TDM and RMCC, handle. I also add in some memory tweaks and other fixes, to speed up the phone. As for your SE question, any userdebug build should automatically set for permissive. It's not until you do a normal build, that SE should default to enforcing.

As for my build last night, no dice, but I'm off from work today, so I have more time to look into things.

Yes please. I'm running out of things to try. I can get wifi to run, but it won't scan. The wpa_supplicant is identical in both my good and bad builds and it appears the wpa_cli is as well.

I installed latest 04-07 and wifi still won't turn on.
Wifi wasn't fixed until last night. The 4/9 build should have the fix in it. Also, it's entire possible that you may need to do a full reset of the device, if it doesn't fix itself after the first install.

Lol I've given up on the spectrum.. I use a razr maxx for work I just bought a used one until they come out with a better choice of new phones to select from..

Neph you mess around at all with USB audio? To be honest, that's what got me into all this building crap.. I've got an iSimple gateway installed in my truck, my goal was to use a female 30 pin dock to male micro usb to charge and play audio through the thing. Mission failed though.. or at least for now. Honestly I didn't put in all that much effort but new phones are starting to add more support with micro 3.0 anyway so I dunno if it's worth the hassle anymore.

Today's ROM 04-09 something different from 04-07 ROM. Installed without gapps. Did reset and dalvik before flashing after download today's ROM.
The good: Wifi works and connected to unsecured wifi. Not tested with secured wifi.
The bad: too slow interface in desktop (Home) and slow scrolling except inside apps scroll listing faster. Because of bad launcher? After 4 minutes and launcher performs okay.
Last ROM 04-07 installed without gapps and was smooth after reboot. I don't need gapps because I use it for wifi tethering.
