Official Droid Eris 2.1 OS coming very soon.

Anyone having issues with the youtube app opening then closing? I tried reinstalling the leak update and no matter what programs I install or do not install, youtube works once or twice and now will not open. I am just guessing youtube will never work right on the eris.

One of the more useful posts in that thread reports the differences in the file sizes as a way to insure you have the latest 2.1 leak, as the old version has the same file name as the new one.

You may want to check around a bit more.
 
downloading the official v.2, now, at work. will put it on my flashdrive, and take it home, to compare to the version I have on my macbook. thanks again...
 
Had that once or twice, with the Navigator, on my last Eris update. Don't know what it means...
 
Wow. Followed thread for 3 days, thought about the original up-date of Jan 22 I was promised, and the Google Navigation I lusted for, got file from original Megaupload site, my PC did not explode. Almost did it 2 or 3 times, finally pulled trigger at 1:53 pm yesterday, was doing my base settings at 2:01, tweaking my screens at 2:07.

using md5 hashtags would be more appropriate to make sure noone is corrupting the files and republishing them.

Of course, but the person I was posting to seemed to want an indication that it was the latest leak, not the first one.

Checking the hash string is an important part of the process, for sure.

Just speculating of course, but VZW is rolling out the 2.1 OTA for the Moto Droid (yesterday, today and tomorrow if the info is accurate) and I would suspect that until that process is finished we will not see it.

I'm looking at it as a positive for us that their getting the update this week, If I was a betting man I would say some time in the next 2 weeks if all goes well with the DROID OTA...

Yeah..it's official for the Droid...here's the Verizon documentation for their update. They got Live wallpapers...

Their 2.1 was delivered in an update in which files and settings stayed intact. Not sure we will get the same since we are taking such a big jump.

Absolutely agree...it is a much bigger jump for the Eris to go straight to 2.1 from 1.5. Not surprised its not wiping their phones!

I think it's the V1 .. I just used it to re-flash my phone and I didn't notice any changed on the software versions page on my phone (I posted earlier and no one answered me).
 
Will my contacts be erased? I don't have the same contacts in Gmail as I do on my Eris, so thats always a huge pain for me. Does anyone running the leak know if your contacts are wiped and you have to sync it back with Gmail or do they remain on the phone? Thanks in advance!

I would back up your contacts. Those in Gmail will be synced with your phone but the other ones will probably be erased. I just have all my synced with Gmail...easiest thing for me.
 
So I am trying to install it, rooted it to my SD card and turned it off. Held down red and green call/end buttons and i pressed vol down but it didn't let me do anything else, now there is just a picture of my phone on the floor and an orange exclamation point in a triangle. Is that normal or has anyone experienced this? Kind of freaking me out...
 
I ran into that a couple of times when I was trying to upgrade. Pull the battery and start over. Did you keep the file name the same? I did it by pressing the red/end and volume down simultaneously. That should give you the screen you want.

Turn phone off

press end button and volume down button

do not use call button.

the only options I'm getting are <send> Fastboot mode or <VOL UP> Recovery, and neither of them are doing anything to help... pressing vol down, end, and send just brought me to a screen that asked me to clear all my data.
 
Did it yesterday. Phone runs a lot faster IMO. Had a problem with appbrain, couldnt redownload my apps. Not a big deal since my paid ups showed up in the market as purchased and didnt have to repay. It was real easy to install 2.1, glad i did. Haven't had any force close problem yet. Still have to play around with it more though and check everything so we'll see.....
 
Since I updated I have had only two issues. and one is major.
--My battery life is trash. horrible.
--not so major is the cell network signal is not functioning in the status bar. (same problem as other people here, once I place a call the bars will jump up, say from 1 to 4 or 5)

Although I think they are related. When I go to Settings>About phone>Battery>Battery use , Cell standby is swamping the battery.

Any ideas or workarounds? Ive been browsing the forums but haven't stumbled across it yet. I have all other battery wasters noted here fixed.

p.s. i'm not having a lot of issues others are experiencing. google stays logged in after reboots, facebook links in contacts all have pictures, pictures show up in my gmail app,
 
I am currently trying the airplane mode fix that OTD suggested in another thread. I was having the same issue...my battery life has been worse since switching (not drastically though, I can still make it through a day). My cell standby is at 50% without a signal. I believe you charge it in airplane mode and then restart the phone and it seems to fix it.
