Love my Eris.

Installed 2.1

A few bugs, but I can live with it (Just hate the damn echo I never had with 1.5).

Sick of the back and forth games with V and HTC.

In the future, I will get a Android phone and skip the HTC gloss. Hell, I don't use HTC now. Beautiful Widgets works better than HTC anyways.

Don't get me wrong, HTC's apps are pretty an all, but if this is the crap I have to endure to get an update, than all HTC is is a golden ring in the snout of a pig.

I think you mean HTC's Sense UI, not the company as a whole HTC. And you're using Home; it's not the same as Android. You are always running the Android OS.

But I agree. No custom UI is the best way to go. No Sense or MOTOBLUR. Just raw Android. Saves memory so the phone works better and it doesn't complicate things when it comes time to update the firmware.

With HTC phones, we should have an option to choose Home when you first get your phone and when you choose Home, it completely uninstalls Sense. That would be nice.

Bingo. Exactly what I meant.

I just bought an ERIS via Verizon because the rep told me it would be getting the 2.1 and so did all the searching I did on it. When I inquired yesterday to the Verizon techie online about ETA, I was informed that there would be no Verizon update for 2.1 for the HTC Eris. Just the Motorola Droid. If that's the case, I'll be returning this phone. But who to believe?

Good question. There have been reports of the OTA update starting tomorrow. No idea if it will. Only time will tell, I suppose...

A link to those reports, as long as they are not in any forums, blogs or joke sites anywhere on the Internet, would be interesting to see here, amigo.

But then don't you just have something similar to that ugly iPhone? ;)

Mmm. No. You have a very simplified UI that requires only a little more intelligence to navigate. I don't need the OS to be dumbed-down so I know where to go to find what I need. It slows down the OS and just makes me wait over six months longer for an update.

You can turn HTC Sense off if you dont want it. Click here --> How to: Turn off HTC Sense | AndroidGuys.

Anyway, this update nonsense is bull. ERIS users are getting thrown under the bus here. The Incredible is a great looking phone, but damn. The ERIS hasn't even been out 6 months. I guess that's how it goes with technology...smh.

I installed the update left by the user near the beginning of this thread...no problems what-so-ever. HTC pushed the update to VZW and I guess VZW is just sitting on it. I talked to a VZW rep a while back, and she told me that that the OTA was coming as soon as they make sure it runs smoothly. I'm almost at the point where I don't care anymore.

Have you tried the blueberry pomegranate green tea yet? Great with cranberry scones!

Too bad it doesn't stop it from running in the background.

I don't see the point in upgrading to the Incredible. Just think in a year or so when our contract runs out and all the AMAZING Android phones Verizon will have.

The Eris got me into Android and I will always love it for that matter, 2.1 isn't what makes me love my phone.

But I'm just pumped when my contract runs up and I get to choose from a list of amazing Android phones while some of you idiots paid like $500 for an outdated Incredible.

That's a very easy answer although there are many on this forum who don't seem to understand. Verizon is the one you have the contract with and they are responsible for putting out any update. They made one, vague statement (last year) about an Eris update (not version specific) planned for Q1 2010. I also received an email a couple days ago from Brenda Raney, VZW's Wireless PR person, that said they were still going to upgrade the Eris and please be patient. They planned on Q1 but QA problems caused a delay. Again, no specific version or time. Sorry, that's as official as it gets. Other than those two statements, everything else is Internet chatter.

+1

I have an Eris and a Droid in my stable of phones. Got the Droid, then bought the Eris thinking I would get rid of the Droid. sold it on Ebay and the idiot never sent the money for the droid. Said "what the heck, I'll mess with the droid for a while". Been using it ever since. I LOVE the Sense UI, and feel that when the official 2.1 comes out, then we're good. But been waiting way to long. Bottom line is that the Eris has never been supported very well by Verizon IMO. Many things are working perfect with the Eris (although I know nothing is ever PERFECT). The Droid has been much more stable and is supported WAY better by verizon. I just ordered my Incredible and it will be here tomorrow. Sense UI over 2.1 without the IDIOTIC KEYBOARD. I like the way they are going. Had huge hope for the Eris and LOVE the way it feels. Just want something LIKE it that works..... is that too much to ask. Can't wait for the Incredible, and hope that the Eris gets it's update as my wife still has an Eris (in addition to mine).
