.:Official Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Thread:.

i tend to gravitate to a warrior mage type character. this time around i'm doing a light armor, dual wielding fighter.

i guess i'm just not as sneaky as you guys are....LOL

but it does sound like fun. next time around that is what i will try out.

I just started messing around with archery for the first time, very fun. Though my lvl 55 with 100 one-handed/light armor/smithing/sneak/enchanting and 93 ish restoration can learn without fear of being squished. It's much easier to mess around with archery when you can make your own daedric bow and use junk arrows and snipe sneak shots heh.

Still, archery is tons of fun! I never thought I would like it too.

But yeah I usually do a weird combo of one-handed/healing/light armor/sneak/smithing

Smithing is OP :)

I always take the easy way out and just go for the solider type. Focus and damage, DPS if you wanna use mmo terms.

With a game like this there is no way I'm gonna do a second play through before I'm 50.

Suggestions on what type of character to start with? To be honest I don't wanna have to think very much. I just wanna kill sh*t. Bow and arrow stuff does sound intriguing

I'd say make a sword character with smithing. And either shield+potions, 2handed sword or sword plus healing spells.

Bow and arrow takes some getting used to but is very fun. Aiming is the same no matter your archery level, mostly only damage increases with skills/perks

Smithing I think is key for easy game play, you can level it quickly by making jewelry. It will allow you to make great swords and armor for yourself and companions. Enchanting and alchemy are good too.

Light armor vs heavy, or spell healing vs potions, these don't matter as much. Though healing via spells saves a bit of money (but you will be the richest dude in skyrim by like level 20 or 30 anyways )

Finally if you have the game on PC, look up giving yourself the Dragonrend shout via the in-game console, especially if you go with a sword. Once the dragon attacks start..... they never stop!

Imo the problem with smithing good stuff to sell to NPC's is that depending on the goods value, you can easily make much more than you can carry or sell. I ended up stashing hundreds of enchanted daggers that I made and enchanted because each one is worth 1k, it's hard to sell a bunch at a time. Also no point in wasting your carrying capacity with loads of them. By all means keep 5-10 on you and sell as you can, but it can take a while.

Go from keep to keep. They'll start to disappear quite quickly.

I can usually unload anything I make between white run and fully op thieves guild

Cheapest way to level smithing and enchanting is making then enchanting iron daggers, Google that and you should fond a forum post with the spell to use top make the most money off selling them. At that point the problem becomes finding enough iron ore.

It also does not matter (in the end, although it makes a significant difference early on) whether you take light it heavy armor, the game is so dumbed down that both will exceed the max armor rating cap long before you max your skills. You never needed use dragon plate to do so
Either.

If you start the game with enchanting and smithing as priority 1 & 2 you can Max armor rating before you do your first quest

If you do the Thieves Guild side quests (Vex and what's-his-face, Mallory?) you will have 5 vendors with 4k on them (4 in the cities, 1 in the guild).

Also:
Whiterun has 3 who buy weapons, 1 who buys anything, and the alchemy store will buy dragon bone/scales (I think).

Markath and Solitude each have a general store, and there are also smiths in Riverwood (great place to steal ingots), Solidtude (great place to steal ingots), and a smith in Windhelm, (also a general merchant in Windhelm, I think).

But yeah being overburdened is a pain. I found myself doing a quick value calc for anything I picked up. It needed to be 20:1 for Gold:weight. Mage robes were usually good money. Though now I opt for higher as I'm walking around with 300k I have no idea what to spend on. :)

They patched this on PC, so daggers is not as good as jewelery. Smithing is raised based on the price of the item now. Plus, jewelery is lighter (can still be enchanted too). Daggers used to be the best way though, definitely.

to get smithing up to 100 now you would have to forge about 800 iron daggers, dont believe me try it out. I think they nerfed the smithing of iron daggers cause i remembered smithing about 200 and got to 100, its horrible.
good news is if you enchant the daggers you can sell them for x4 the price or more.

Hmm I am running out of things to do >.>

Not sure if I want to start a new character, but can't seem to find any more new locations or quests.

That is when you try to kill everyone you see, find interesting ways to do it, like summon (PC console commands) the weakest creature you can find a code for, and see how many of them it takes to kill guards of various factions.
Or go to a town and summon one beastie and give it 15k or 20k hit points and see if it can kill everyone.

Find your own interesting thing to do, I personally enjoy using no clip to go up in the air, summon someone or something to me and see if it survives the fall, then find out at what height they will die if I go up just a little farther, but not at the current height I am at.

Next on my list is to make a bow that shoots faster than any other in the game and does not do any damage (already have a mod with "practice arrows" that do no damage) and play around with various poisons and enchants. Once I get that down good, I intend to make a new character that is only allowed to use the bow of no damage with practice arrows, and see how boring/hard the game is. I have a feeling I'll be using a lot of paralyze effects... Would be interesting to see how much I can do in game without ever causing 1 point of damage (dragons may have to be excluded, or I might just skip the main quest line... Probably get bored after a couple dozen hours anyway)

Also you could install Skywind and help out with developing that. I've been inactive on there for about 40 days, might go get some more work done on that. Will be nice to play morrowind with the skyrim engine.

so i just bought skyrim for my new laptop!!!!!! i just started it with a totally new character. i started playing it on my ps3 but never finished it.

is there a diffence between pc and ps3 versions? so far i do not see any difference yet.....LOL

now i have to decide which side i want to be on with the war. last time i sided with the stormcloaks, so maybe this time i will side with the imperial. i'm 8hrs in so far i have played it neutral......but we will see.

The difference is the ability to add mods. Try adding better texture packs for better graphics

I can suggest mods like:

-Deadly dragons (more powerful dragons, heck took me 3hrs and maybe 200-300 arrows to kill the 1st dragon, more dragon types like acid dragons)
-Wars in Skyrim (more enemy spawn points, more enemy spawn per point, larger enemy groups. Heck I can even stand on a mountain and see giants, daedra, and mammoths duking it out on a melee in the Whiterun plains.
-Dragonborn hideout (basically adds a basement to your houses (accessible from all houses I think) that's huge and has an armory and stuff)
-Texture packs (check which one works best for your hardware).

ok so i have not tried the dlc expansions yet. how are they? are they worth getting yet?

I don't know about hearthfire, but I enjoyed Dragonborn and Dawnguard.

Neither were awesome, but both were fun. Dragonborn is probably the better of the two. Both were too pricey.

I just started playing Skyrim yesterday. Now this is my first ever PC game ever played, and I was so excited to play. Though the controls are different I'll get used to them. Can't wait to get home to play more.

I just started a new character... I'm going to *try* to not use a bow this time. Maybe heavy armor and two handed?

Somehow, I always gravitate towards a sneaky archer. :/
