Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I just came from a Radio Shack....there was a manager there who knew all the specs of the phone and was also looking forward to buying it. She said that she has been bugging her Sprint representative since it was announced in CTIA and confirmed that it is indeed coming in mid June. We chatted it up a bit and she admitted that she has been lurking in "the forums" and wanted to confirm with her Sprint rep that they are indeed getting it in June. So if you're reading this right now...it was nice to meet you and thanks for not giving me some crappy BS story about it being released later than summer :)

Oh she let me play with her T-mobile HD2 and she's switching to Sprint because she loves the HD2 but hated Win Mobile. Man that HD2 is seriously not a bad phone at all. I love the build quality...really makes me look forward to the EVO.

I don't see how waiting until August or later would help. Peeps will be under contract with iPhones. A lot of them. If you release a little before at least some of those people may choose the Evo. In August you'll still compete head to head but less potential customers. I personally wouldn't wait that long. I have a Centro on launch day and have been off contract since August. Waiting this long has been torture. Want to stay with Sprint but would have to bail for the Incredible if the Evo was 3+ months away or hope the N1 hit Sprint soon.
I've waited this long. There's no way in hell that I'm going to bail for the Incredible, but that's your choice.

I'm not the one setting the release date, but everyone seems to have their heart set on June 6th or June 13th, but those are only rumored release dates. About 5 weeks ago the media was reporting the phone would probably be released in early April, but that didn't happen. All I know is the phone will be released when it's ready and right now it ain't ready. I think people should be more focused on the official release date instead of some rumored date.

As it stands, Apple is getting all the media attention and the EVO is getting almost zero. Boy, can you imagine what it will be like in June fighting Apple and Verizon! Yikes.

Is that what your gut is telling you or your emotions? Be honest.

Thats what my gut is telling me.

All these little things about promotions and rebates ending on June 5th, Best Buy having ads for it everywhere etc.

Maybe we're all looking too much into these things. But just as the Pre was released at the same time last year, I look for the EVO to as well.

Honestly, and as dumb as it might be, I don't think Sprint is too worried about Apple/AT&T.

And after Verizon just had a bad first quarter, I think Sprint is going to want to hit the ground running and soon.

I would like to have the phone right now too, but I don't want it before it's ready. July or August is still summer, as promised, and it only makes sense to wait until after the Apple sauce raucous is over. That would give Sprint just a little, itty, bitty more time to work everything out and to make sure everything is perfect. If they release the EVO in mid to late June, it will be buried by the media.

If Sprint were to come out with both barrels and try to compete with the iPhone, I don't see much of a chance for success. On top of that, if it does fail to get attention in June, they may not get another chance. Not only are they going to be fighting Apple, but they'll be fighting Verizon's Incredible as well. Think about it.

I'm willing to wait just a little longer. Three months will bring us to the end of July and that isn't that far away. Most of us will probably have WiMAX by then too.

I'm not the one controlling the release data and playing the devil's advocate didn't work out too well for me yesterday, but a later release makes a lot of sense to me. I'm only saying this, because it could happen.

You just may be right; however, I could see Sprint releasing the EVO in Early may / mid May and beating iphone to the punch... With that we could see just enough of a foot hold for HTC and Sprint to win back those sick of Verizon

And Suzie homemaker and Joe six pack's response will be "the new iphone is 4g too! haha I win"
It all comes down to what I said on like page 20 or something...lol. most people want the iPhone for the same reason why most people are with Verizon. MASSIVE,COOL,SLICK,and did I mention HIGHLY REPETITIVE advertisement! I know a lot of people have Verizon due to work or family plans with in calling or whatever but the truth about VZW and the iPhone is "all of my friends have it" which leads me back to JIM JONES COOL AID style advertising. People are lead to believe that certain products and or services are status symbols whether they know it or it is force fed to them subliminally. "All my friends have VZW so it is free for me to call them." Yeah okay but you are paying $90 for 450 minutes, unlimited in calling, unlimited text and web. Me? I would rather pay $69.99 for 450 minutes, unlimited calling to any mobile, unlimited text and web as well as unlimited TV and navigation plus I will have the EVO!!!!!. These are just examples and what not, but a lot of consumers are just sheep looking for a shepherd. I worked in the cell industry and I am hooked on phones. But as far as the tech stuff goes I really am not that more knowledgeable than your example of Joe sixpack. But I will tell you what I do know. You get more for less with Sprint's plans compared to Verizon, the Evo has a huge beautiful screen with Android OS which I want, and almost anyone who can and cares to read a little bit will see that the Evo rocks hardware wise as well as offering faster internet even if you don't grasp all of the details. But as stated before BAAAAAAAHHAAAAA "Good sheep" :)

I feel your pain man. I have been waiting since August as well, that was when my 2 year contract was up, and it was on an older model phone too (Katana). This has been unbearable to wait this long already. Just a week ago the directional key pad around my menu key cracked and is getting ready to fall off it looks like. I can hang on for June possibly, but not much longer.

I understand your reasoning Bill, but I believe they need to release it before the new iPhone drops. People that are on the fence about staying with AT&T would be more likely to jump ship if given a great reason to do so (EVO). The ones that don't jump ship, those are the ones that will pretty much get another iphone regardless of what is out.
If they wait until after the new iPhone, they will be competing with the several month media blitz that will also follow the release and all the iphone junkies putting the iphone on a pedestal, possibly pursuading those on the fence to stay and drink the koolade.
If the EVO is in the hands of the masses before that, they have their own marketing blitz and people like us, putting the EVO on a higher pedestal. I feel this will keep people thinking of leaving Sprint (tired of waiting for the next "great phone") and bring in new subscribers from the other carriers that are either impatient in waiting or want to try something BETTER. Just my opinion, but you know what they say about them... ;)

I don't think they should be worried about Apple/AT&T either, but they're going to eat up 99% of the media coverage. The EVO will hardly be noticed and that's the biggest point I'm trying to make.

This whole discussion was hashed out in full yesterday, so I'll sum it up real quick to save everyone effort in typing their posts:

All the evidence points to an early June release and every argument about a later release being a smarter idea has valid logical counterpoints. But of course at ctia they said "summer release", so Bill is going hard core with a later date to spur reactions and generate discussion. Sort of trolling for posts during a slow discussion period with no new news. Playing "devils advocate" apparently, I call it trolling, but whatever. So anyway, it will be out in June, there's no logic in them waiting longer unless there's a catastrophic bug that they can't fix, which there isn't, and it's a waste of time to keep saying it will be later just to generate tons of posts with everyone pointing out the reasons that prove it will be out in June. If anyone actually believes the release date will be later than June, I will bet them any amount of money they wish saying otherwise, but I don't think anyone actually believes that enough to bet on it.

You just may be right; however, I could see Sprint releasing the EVO in Early may / mid May and beating iphone to the punch... With that we could see just enough of a foot hold for HTC and Sprint to win back those sick of Verizon’s high prices and AT&T's sub-par service / high prices... Speaking of which, isn't Verizon getting the iphone too.... I wouldn't want to wait for that announcement to add to the flack Sprints looking to dodge.

Sprint did the whole we'll wait and wait and wait thing last year with the Pre... Let's hope they've learned from this mistake and grab at the foot hold they need. I couldn't imagine waging a war where you wait for your opponent to grab up all the land and then try and fight it out of his hands once he's got it all.... Just say'n too.

Besides… I turn 30 on the 24th of May… It only makes sense it be released for my birthday :p
Well, I'm not the one controlling the release date. Awhile back the media was reporting the EVO will probably be released in early April. The we all had our hopes up for May, but that didn't happen either. Now, everyone's hoping for mid to late June. We'll see, but I have my doubts. Sprint and all of the media has been saying summer, so why would I believe anything else. I think July or August makes more sense, but that's just my opinion.

Edit: Even Jackson was reporting tonight that it could be August. I think we should concentrate on the official release date. That way you won't be disappointed again when it isn't released on June 6th.

And a valid point it is.

But you never know, tech blogs are still going to be all over this phone when it drops.

TV, not so much.

the only way anyone will remember hte evo after the iphone launch is for sprint to start some serious buzz now. Start showing off how the EVO kills the current and the rumored next gen iphone. Also plug thier 69.99 with it as well. one two punch sprint could do it.. if their willing.

Okay, you win.

Ok... so I'm probably not the only one here that checks out other forums... Found here: Best Buy promoting Sprint Evo 4G - sign up to be notified when it's coming | Android Central

You can sign up to be notified when the EVO is released... at BB.... I for one can't get a link to show up to allow me to sign up, anyone else wanna check it out?

Sprint HTC EVO - BestBuy

On the left side of the page there is a place to enter your email address to sign up for "the latest HTC Evo 4G availability information via email."

I think people are forgetting the fact that this is Sprint's or any other carrier's first 4G device. There are NO other 4G phones in the US and Sprint will market the hell out of that advantage. Even with Apple's new phone...see what Sprint did with the iPad? Make it FASTER with Sprint's 4G! Brilliant!

Movie spoiler: In "Prince of Persia", Prince Dastan uses the sands of time to travel to June 13, 2012 to grab an HTC EVO then travels further forward to the iPhone announcement in WWDC, gets disappointed that it doesnt even do 4G speeds and goes back to June 13th to post on here that the EVO still rocks even in the future - then goes back to his time to make sweet love to the princess

Pyro... What I have done in the past is gone to craigslist and bought my replacments... doing a quick search pulled up a few selling for $30 - $50.... consider it a life boat to keep you afloat till the EVO comes along a saves the day!

This phone is seriously straight out of the future! The specs are basically what people in comment sections of tech sites used to write as their dream device not long ago, which were usually mocked for being so impractically optimistic. I certainly never thought I'd be using a device this powerful as soon as I will be. I'm actually still pretty amazed everyday I use my old windows mobile phone with all the things I'm able to get done with it, so the EVO will make it feel like I'm in 2024 or so I think.

see the hole problem with all of this they should of had the phone for release at ctia cause then they would of had a media storm beind them and not competing with the incred or the iphony its stupid that all carriors release there phones at reletivly the exact same time. you know apple ALWAYS releases in june WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD U DO THAT... do it before to pull some of the apple non core fans away

Doesn't sound like a movie that will win over many iPhone fans.

I think you misunderstood what he said...... he said that someone else heard from either a Sprint Rep or a Best Buy Rep (don't remember and don't feel like going back to confirm) that it was coming out in August and that just showed that everyone is getting different information. He said that it was still coming out June 6th/13th.
