Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Doing my usual random searches of Sprint Evo on Google this morning......Its sooo funny how I am seeing all these other sites blogging today about the rumored price of $199 from the SAME link I posted in here earlier yesterday morning.

I disagree, but lets look into it to make sure everyone has the right answer. That was the main reason I wanted GV.

I have and use google voice now with Sprint. If you have Sprint-to-home which is where you can set either 3 or 5 numbers to be unlimited minutes (sorta like MyFavs or Friends and Family on other networks) then you can utilize GV to provide unlimited minutes for all your voice calls. [I am not sure about this, but I recall reading recently that Sprint has discontinued offering Sprint-to-home, which is something which is/was free that retentions department would provide). Since Sprint has begun Any wireless, Any time I have had basically unlimited minutes without regard for using GV as almost all my calls are to other wireless numbers.

AdMob’s Latest Mobile Metrics Report Brings Us Interesting Numbers | Android Phone Fans

If you look at the bottom graph you'll see that Android has overthrown the iPhone OS as the most popular Smartphone OS In the US.

Now, before you go rubbing it in the face of your apple friends, please note that iPhone (device) still has a staggering 39% of the Smartphone market in the US....so they're still kings on the block from that perspective.

I hope stats like these continue to spur the growth of the Marketplace and applications for all. (in a general sense, not a head-to-head sense with Apple).

@Avonne - PM me your email address and I will send you one of my 3. :)

Hi Falco

Been a gmail user for years, and was one of the first to sign up for GV but never received anything regarding it. Would love to try it out, so if you feel generous and even have any left that you have no use for, I'd love one. Thanks mate.

BTW - I've been a lurker for about a month. I'm tired of my ATT service dropping calls on a certain road out here, so I'm going to jump on the EVO bandwagon ASAP. Hopefully Sprint's service is better for my normal treks!!

I'm tired of AT&T dropping my calls period. I'd say overall about half my calls are dropped. Yes, HALF. IIRC, it wasn't this bad until they enabled MMS on the iPhone.

Anyway, someone pointed out this neat tool for showing signal strength for any location for the major carriers, and changing from AT&T to Sprint made my whole area go from yellow/orange to all green. Makes the switch sound a bit more promising.

If you guys want to talk about the Apple/Gizmodo incident, please do another thread, but lets try to keep this thread clean of the cursing and on topic. I know there isn't any new news on the EVO, but come on, work with us here. I'm easing up on my strict on-topic mode, but thats not to say to take advantage of it and make it a free for all.

WOW! I said that Apple was being a bunch of B--CHES and then I said it was a D--K move to sue and my comment was pulled for cussing!?!?!?! I have heard worse on an elementary school playground! Sorry if I offended anyone with my over the top ultra foul cuss words. What I meant to say is Apple is behaving like a pack of female dogs and that it was just a male anatomy part like move on their part to sue. :) Back to the real story, I am going NUTS (can I say that?) waiting for the EVO! I know I do not have a marketing degree but I think if it is at all possible Sprint should do a limited launch, maybe just in 4G areas. Get the phone into peoples hands ASAP and generate MSSIVE buzz! This feels like the Pre all over again!!! AHHHHH

I've got Sprint mobile here today showing off the overdrive amongst other things... I'll try to learn somthing new.... however these guys are all saying mid June...

plz o plz quit posting links from that website

ozcar guide or what ever its called they are full of more bs than george bush

I like how Sprint is heavy on the banner ads for the EVO, but they need to start with print and TV ads too so more people know about this phone.

Another question.... Anyone know if where I live (Youngstown,OH) is considered part of the Pittsburgh,PA or Cleveland,OH market since they will be getting 4G sometime this year? If we are then we would maybe get it aswell...???

way to far away from pittsburgh...

pritty much butler will be lucky if there in the initial deployment past the cranberry area
from what i can tell
monroeville to beaver to cranberrry and the southern edge of pittsburgh

Niles/Warren area here. We would fall under the Cleveland Umbrella. I would imagine if they get it, it will filter into our area as well.

Youngstown/Warren/New Castle are their own market.

I'd be surprised if the Cleveland rollout included Akron, let alone Youngstown. And I don't think Youngstown would be a priority to get 4G coverage anytime soon.

Hey all, just wanted to update my last post about the May 12 EVO party in NYC. I just got my invite to the event and will try and get some info up to you guys as it happens! Two weeks from tomorrow!

Maybe I'll even post to the forums from an EVO!

!!! This is big news. Can you share some details -- how the invitation came to you, where the event is, how you were able to get the invitation, etc?

Thanks!

Nice! Looking forward to it! 2 weeks to go.

I have a question that may be completely ignorant or sound stupid, but I just wanted to clarify regarding 4G/Wimax and using the EVO as a wireless router. I wasn't sure if it was more appropriate to ask in here or the WiMax thread, so I'm posting it in here first (Mods can move later if they'd like).

If 3-4 friends connect to my phone as a router, does that mean they'll be connected to the 4G network (through my phone) for browsing at that time? In other words, would the EVO (in essence) provide the same type of service that the Overdrive does?

On top of that, will there be security features available (just like any wireless router), where we'd be able to set a username/passcode to prevent from other devices connecting to the EVO?

Thanks, in advance, for those that know the exact answer to these questinos.

We can't know for sure YET, but given the marketing: yes, the EVO is basically an OverDrive + Phone.

The invite just came in an email. A colleague of mine arranged for the invite, so I knew it was coming. Without giving the actual address, the event is all the way on the west side of New York City on 42nd street.

My colleague believes they'll announce pricing and a date, but says that's pure speculation. The event is also about boasting Sprint's new relationship with Disney.

I guess I'll stick around for the Prince of Persia movie, it looks alright and it's one of my favorite video game franchises.

That's awesome, dude. Please keep us informed! Does it look legit? Did the email come from an @sprint.com domain?
