Actually I was looking at Sprint coverage maps and it seems it has gotten better in my neighborhood. I had great signal everywhere even on the sidewalk in front of my house but not in it. I used to work in the cell industry and I know certain structures equal bad reception. But I have great reception with Verizon T-mobile,Cricket and even ....yuck AT&T. Truth be told I had so so reception with my original Instinct too. I thought the Pre had a weak antenna but when I had a Pre with VZW it was fine! I am hoping the new expanded coverage will make up for it or I guess I will have to buy an Airave because I really want the EVO!!! After I had the HD2 with that huge screen even the 3.7 inch screen on my Desire is not acceptable.

I gotta check the map because whenever I've gone up to visit family, I have to stand in like one EXACT spot outside at my grandma's or lose the signal. Sprint didn't work for shit the last time I was there, which was why no one I knew up there had Sprint. This was in Belle Vernon/Charleroi area BTW.

I haven't checked that zip but I would imagine it is better. It looked like they really beefed up the coverage since last June. WOW I just realized what a phone whore I am! I have had 10 different phones on all 4 carriers in the last year!

Yeah I was kinda wondering. You're talking about having all these different carriers and phones and I was like WOW, I thought IIIIII was a phone whore! But I've been on Sprint for as long as I can remember.
You're right, I just checked the map and it's all green! Guess I'll actually be able to use my phone the next time I go up there! If I go within, oh say, the next 12 months, it will be an Evo. After that I can't guaranty anything. ;)
 
you get them through sprint, BUT they must have a broadband internet connection, and its not really an small portable thing to carry around, if you can make the case to the sprint reps that you dont have good service at your home and you are thinking about leaving sprint b/c of it they might give you one for free and/or waive the monthly fee for it (yes you have to pay a monthly fee for it, its cheep though, unless you want unlimited calling through it and you dont have unlitmited calling through your phone, the newer ones even allow for hooking a lan line phone to it for making calls)

I tried to post a similar answer but the site or my computer threw up!
 
Problem, neither my bff or my parents have dsl or broadband..I just checked the sprint web site on the airwave. Oh well..lol I get signal at my folks place. But its not so good at my bffs place..I will survive. Who knows the evo is BIGGER phone. So maybe that will help. Sucks though that I don't have 4g in my area yet. I do have 3g though.

LOL. Why do u have so many phones? I only have two lines and thats it. :P You sound like my brother who is a phone and computer addict except hes not good about paying his phone bills or any bills for that matter..ops off topic..delete if needed..ready for the evo. I want an evo so bad..

I'm pretty annoyed about just that scenario. Sprint offered me a free Airave because we have to have our phones set to roaming only and use verizon towers when at home. Doesn't bother me because I have my phone set to switch the roaming setting with one button press, but others in the house don't want to have to switch it, so we complained and the sprint rep offered us the Airave for free. Problem is, it never arrived, and apparently there's nothing on record of them offering it, and no one we've talked to believes that we were actually ever offered it.

Don't forget that sprint allows free roaming on verizon, us cellular, and alltel towers. Maybe there's coverage at their houses from one of those carriers.

i just love phones and I always switch to the newest and best! I sell my old ones and it covers termination fees if I have one and buying my new phone. I havent actually paid for a phone in 3 years using this method! :)

that is why I always take down names and save emails! Just call and ask to speak to customer retentions and try again. I think the name of the guy at C.R. that I usually deal with when I have Sprint is Nate Quintaro. I will see if I can dig up his info. tomorrow for you.

I'm happy about all the info that's been shared here in this forum by many people, and I've taken a lot of it, especially lately with a little more then a grain of salt! But I'm holding out for May 12th and hope that it truly is a day were things come to light and we can become better informed!! I hope it's not a bust and that it even happens for that matter!!

I would say that Radio Shack is just trying to take business away from other companies (Best Buy). The know that they will be selling the Evo eventually, so why not tell people they are taking pre-orders, so when it does come out, they will already have a list of people that are ready to purchase from them, not someone else. Think of it as a notification to the pre-order list for the order list.:confused:

no Airave from sprint does not boost your signal, what it does is it install onto your home internet network, when you are in range of it it take over your signal and turns it into to VOIP and send it to sprint. you can be on the phone and go into the airave's range and keep the cal going BUT once you are using the airave to talk, once you move out of it's range you drop the call. Its great when you have a low signal at your home or place of work b/c if gives you great signal where you would not normally get it and you can limit who connects to it from your sprint account, so you can limit to only you and or your spouse and not let anyone else use it or you can leave it open and up to 5 people can use it at any given time, BUT when you are on it you WILL notice your network speed will slow down due to the airave using it for VOIP.

I was at the radioshack in college point today and the worker said the evo is coming out end of july or august :eek: But I said what about next month june she said july or august. I do not believe her.

I told you this would be a leaked full weak on Sunday night. All of my email group can tell you that. Sorry I haven't been around I've been up at a tourny in Maine.

Well, looks like just about everything i have said has come in to fruition.

First that June 6th release. You will only be able to preorder online though, just like the Incredible i believe. You can always try telesales though if you prefer.

Also, Android 2.1 update 1. Sounds like a modded version of android 2.1 to me no? Like i said Dan just tells me this stuff and i don't always know what it means. Clearly though thats a modded version soley to work with WiMAX, just as I have said.

HELLOOOO 4G apps. I told you there would be tons of them, and if you read that android and me article you would see that is just what happened. I heard that the Sprint nav app is crazy for this phone. It specifically uses the 4G and even takes voice input like the google one.

I just hope this week has shown you all how much i do care for you guys and that im not trying to screw any of you. Also when i say something is a fact, well it is. I said the device past thorough the FCC months ago.... clearly that was on point to. Feb holy CRAP!

Any who I love you guys and May 12th is going to be a magical night. Dan just sent over a juicy email about it so ill be sure to post something later about it!

im loving all these leaks.. finally feels like sprint is getting the ball rolling... and its going to be rolling DOWNHIILL.. just a quick point about the special plans that where talked about a couple pages ago.. not sure if anyone mentioned this but my opinion about it is not so much that they're going to be higher priced than the plans out now aside from the hot-spot add on but that the plans out now wont function with the 4G if you look at the overdrive plans there are 2 of em one specifically if your going to use 4G service and one if you only want the 3G .. both the same price just prob need diff codes for their system to allow 4G use.. so for example they maybe adding an Everything Data - with Any Mobile, Anytime 4G plan the system.. ok sorry such a long post and if this was said earlier but just my opinoin.. ok rant over ;)
