i dont fully understand. its not an OS, and its not a version of android. so what is it exactly?
Dylan, Google has been giving Android versions dessert names in order by letter. I'm not sure what A or B were, but we have Cupcake 1.5, Donut 1.6, Eclair 2.0 and 2.1. The next one is Froyo (some thought it would be Flan, but it's Frozen Yogurt, instead) not sure what the version number will be.

And after Froyo they're coming out with Gingerbread. Hmmm interesting.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but could this be what that meeting you guys were talking about was about.

Sprint introduces the Sprint Free Guarantee Boy Genius Report

Oops. Someone posted about this already on the speculation thread. Sorry about that.
I added the MSN Money article about Sprint's "Satisfaction Guaranteed or Money Back" in the "Latest News" section in post #1.

To me it looks like Sprint is going all out with the EVO and WiMAX launch and I couldn't be happier about it.

I just don't know how any carrier can compete with the prices Sprint is offering. I've been showing everyone I know videos of the EVO and of everything it can do and they can't till it comes out to jump on the EVO wagon.

I went looking and you're right about EVO running Froyo and about the wildfire part, but I couldn't find anything to substantiate the version number, however, I did find an interesting article that explains what Froyo is/does. Google's solution to Android fragmentation coming in 'Froyo'

I personally wouldn't switch away from Sprint, because I like their customer service and their rates are so much cheaper than Verizon's rates.

When someone asked the question earlier in this thread if anyone thought it was possible that other carriers would get this phone, I said it was entirely possible. I mentioned that both were CDMA and I brought up the example of when Sprint brought out the HTC Hero last October, Verizon followed about 6 weeks later in November with the HTC Droid Eris.

I think it would be great news for the people in the Incredible camp especially to get this phone, but it won't have 4G. Maybe in another year or so it will, but in actuality, Verizon is still testing LTE and hasn't even started deploying it yet. So, for me, that's another reason to stay with Sprint.

Yeah for some reason I have a feeling that even when it happens, VZW will find some way to justify charging EXTRA for their version of LTE and make claims that its better than WiMAX hence justify the extra cost for THEIR 4G.

I have a theory that it was Applesauce and Biscotti, but can't prove it. lol

what might b the additional options for this new operating system? what are its capabilities? i have not seen any specifications. What makes it better?

Thanks stkshooter. Although this information is interesting, I noticed the source for the information is AT&T, so I see it basically as propaganda.

As far as 4G coverage in Florida, I'm in the same boat as you. Sprint has a 51% stake in Clear and they're the ones building out WiMAX. If you look for information coming from them, you might get a different picture.

SoFLO has done quite a bit of research on Clear and has listed his findings in the 4G/WiMAX Coverage (sticky thread). If you look there, you'll see quite a few Florida cities listed including Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay. So it's on the way and I expect it to come quickly, so just be a little patient.

I really expect the EVO to start pushing the WiMAX build out. On another note, Clear and Sprint are pushing for 4G standards, which I think is a great idea. Clearwire Paves Way for LTE in US.

Mobile Broadband Review seemed to be pro Sprint in many reviews. He compared Sprint many times and spoke highly of sprint, which is uncommon. He might be pro AT&T but didn't seem to put down sprint like many do.

Now PCWorld picking a slow EVDO city for speed testing sprint vs faster AT&T cities was a little slanted.

I called Clear on 03/31/2010. I wanted to sign up for their wireless 4G service. They said it would be in Tampa / Lakeland area in 45 days and they would call when available. That's interesting the projected available date would be just before the EVO is relaesed in June?

This is getting more exciting all the time, not just for the EVO but what 4G wireless will offer in all areas of life. Complete wireless freedom except for the power supply :)

I just posted the link WhiteNoise gave us (post #1061) in the Incredible forum thinking it might cheer them up or give them something to talk about, but they completely blew me off. Someone posted and said they liked the Ventures way back when. Geesh, guess I should stay away from there.

Follow the link I left in post #1060.

serves you right for thinking about someone else other than us EVO types. lol

TS out,

I talked to the Best Buy phone rep in my area. He said/confirmed: they are doing pre sales in May and that he is trying to get an actual Evo so he can do demonstrations for customers. The price tag will be in the $250 range. It will be released in June or July. It will also allow for dual talk/downloading with wifi only. fwiw....

Quite the knowledgeable phone salesman when Sprint has said themselves that the 4G data/voice isn't set in stone yet.

Not trying to be an asshole, thanks for the info, but jeez it bugs me when people give out bogus info (meaning, him)

I agree but maybe he was handed down that information from another unreliable source or bad training. So in his defense, unless he joined this forum LOL he wouldn't know any better :)

Hey Bill, not all the guys over there in the Incredible forum are jerks...but there are a few...and plenty of new blood. I think many of the former people are lurking more due to the big disappointment of no news at CTIA.

I find peoples loyalties and emotional attachments with regards to cellular phones to be quite interesting. Kind of like with favorite restaurants or cars. I get it...because for example...AT&T can eat my undies when they are especially fragrant! But since I don't have a beef with either Sprint or AT&T...I feel that there's a bit of an unfair bias that exists. Sure, I think Verizon has earned an excellent reputation...and it's not all just propaganda. But I kind of think some of those Verizon loyalists might be a little jealous and sorry before it's over. On the other hand...I'm sure there are a few that hate Sprint and will not feel that way. As for me, I'm excited Sprint is stepping it's game up. And it looks like a very compelling alternative to Verizon for me personally. In fact, I'm betting with news that you'll see a few Verizon fans over here from the Incredible forum...if they haven't already gone nuts or finally been able to purchase the Incredible.

It really wouldn't surprise me to see a shift in perception as this year goes on...where people are thinking...hmm...why didn't I check out WiMax a little more closely before making my decision. FWIW...I still visit the Incredible forum....I want to see the end of the show! :D

Hmmm interesting topic for a blog or mini social experiment. You could do the polls, research, and statistics to back this up. Hell, this could be a full on dissertation or thesis for school LOL

Seriously though...I think some people take it waaay too seriously. I, for one, could switch phones or carriers on a dime (not literally of course with ETF etc LOL) I have no problem if I had to bounce between carriers or phones. I know the die hard folks at Precentral would bash me if I told them I'm getting the EVO but who cares? To me it's just a phone and I have no single loyalties to a company or their product. I'm like the ultimate fair-weather gadget geek. I get whatever's awesome to me :) Hell I own VZW, Sprint, and T-Mobile stock as well as Apple, Google (2 shares - they are expensive as all hell) Palm, Samsung, and soon HTC (if I could understand how the hell to buy their stock). So no matter who "wins" - I make sure I always win. And that's how we should think as customers. Companies compete and encourage each other to do better - all for the benefit of the customer.

Thanks, andrion. I don't know if you saw what I said in post #1068, or not. I wanted to say something positive (see page 499 over there), but they totally ignored me except for woodraskam who saw it as the Incredible being released as the HTC Venture.

There's no doubt in my mind that the EVO 4G is the way to go. Some people like Jackson (Supersonical) who has posted here thinks there's going to be very heavy promotion for the EVO and WiMAX starting in a couple of weeks. When that happens, it will get lots of people's attention.

Edit: BTW, I think your comment about wanting to "see the end of the show" is one of the things that keeps drawing me over there. I'm not the least bit interested in that device, however.
