to chime in, there's no way in hell will sprint outsell iphone. one reason is, majority of the poeple in USA think sprint has bad service. majority of the people also think that they will go bankrupt. then there's a bunch of non-geeks who will complain about such a huge phone. the phone isn't as appealing to a girl than a iphone. apple has too much people on their bandwagon. their advertising department uses brain washing techniques to advertise their product. An Apple Iphone is not a trend, fashion, or however you want to call it. When it becomes a fashion, there's no way in hell will it loose to the evo. Evo is still a geek phone. It will take too much to wipe clear of some of these apple lovers.

I'm going to have to agree. AT&T already has a much larger customer base, so those who are not looking to leave them and upgrading this Summer may choose the iPhone, as well as current iPhone customers. Won't the 3G be two years old and ready for replacement this summer?

On top of that, this market doesn't appear to be controlled by economics. Sprint and T-mo have the cheaper plans in the big four, yet they're number three and four. People want phones, and they'll pay the price, even if it means $35 on data and texts rather than a Simply Everything Plant. The iPhone is the "it-phone" and Verizon has the "it-network." This phone can't hurt Sprint (unless they royally screw it up), but it's not a savior for Sprint either. Their savior is a multi-faceted solution with starts with equipment and marketing and ends with network and customer service (real or perceptions).

The phone will be released on June 6th.

Preorders will start to be taken in May.

All of these press releases that just came out have backed everything ive said since the beginning, its nice

On May 12th though, all you are really going to hear about is a release date for the phone. Unless they change venue or something, you will not hear about RAM/ROM specs or priceing. They may talk about 4G pricing but more than likely not the actual phone.

However the phone will be priced at around $200

Jackson,

for those of us that are on an everything data plan do you think they'll raise the actual plan pricing for 4G.... how could they do that when so many American's don't live in a 4G area!?!? I would almost imagine it would be a data plan tier that'll be offered don't you.

In other words everyone will still have their

FYI...
These quotes are from the transcript of Clearwire's 1Q conference call, but the comments address some of the questions re their plans that have come up on this board. The speaker is Bill Morrow, CEO.

Here's the first, with a comments on Clearwire's plan for 4g phones this year:

"Over the near-term, we expect to launch new and improved CLEAR Spot devices that connect up to eight WiFi-enabled devices
at any time, including the new Apple iPad and we're often asked about handsets and I'm pleased to announce that we will have
two new 4G WiMAX handsets by the end of this year. We're working with Samsung on an Android-based device optimized for
heavy video communications that leverage high-capacity, low latency, high-speed characteristic of our network. In addition,

we're working with HTC on a second 3G/4G WiFi-enabled phone."

Here's another regarding the plans for roll out of Wimax this year, and it seems to indicate NY won't be lit up until late in the year (don't shoot the messenger!):

"Over the course of 2010, the Company has and will be expanding our 4G mobile broadband network services in three main
tranches. The first was over the past few weeks, which included Houston, Harrisburg, Redding, Lancaster, and York. The second
tranche will be this summer and will include 19 additional cities. And finally the third tranche will be later in the year and will
include New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay area, Miami, Cinncinatti, Cleveland and

Pittsburgh, among others."

Froghair.... this is nice to know, we may be moving to Denver (or surronding area) and the aforementioned news is excellent... only one more reason to move!!!! Thanks again.:)

I have a hero now and still havn't rooted my phone becuase I don't see the purpose... maybe some here would kindly explain why it's even worth it... I'm using 1.5 and getting a bit ticked that I can only use certain apps in the market, would rooting my phone and adding another rom enable me to use the apps that requaire 1.6 and above.

There really isn't a good reason to, you can basically do just about anything a rooted phone can do without going through that up to and including upgrading to 2.1.

On another note:

I'm the first to never believe the hype of anything, and usually the first to throw the speculation out the window and say we'll see.

But I'll admit Jackson up to now has been fairly accurate about just about everything, so instead of bashing him how about you throw him a bone and just say thanks and walk away? I'm not going into the whole iPhone or Evo will outsell blah blah blah... That whole you leave the forum or I'll leave contest we'll leave to the 10 year olds.

PS: We saw a mini-lock last night, well at least you guys did I was drunk as hell last night at a party, but I read about it this morning. Please don't start another flame fest about how many men vs women use the Evo and what not. I'm not saying it will happen but I see it coming.

HAPPY MOMMY'S DAY TO ALL YOU MOMS, YOU DESERVE IT!

Ahhh.... thanks I guess..... I don't beleive you were aiming at me with your rant; however I will agree that we all should be left to comment based on an ethical post. I personally appreciate this thread can remain one that can be opened and viewed at home and at work with out a kermit spanking what ever or other lude objects or comments. Thanks to the Mods that filter out that BS and Thanks to everyone in this community for contributing what you have. This has been the best community to date!:)

It wasn't aimed at you or anyone in general. I only quoted your post to respond with the first sentence about rooting, the rest had nothing to do with it.

ok going a little off topic here (the good, questioning type), do we know for sure that the circles around the home, menu, back etc. will be off the production model? because they arent on the droid or droid eris, or the incredible. i kinda like the look with the circles. idk. whats your guys' opinion?

I think the circles are still there Dylan, what I think we're seeing when you see a white border around them are the lights on the keys lit up. The circles may not be noticeable when the capacitive keys are not lit.

honestly i don't care much about the design and circles. as long as the phone functions well and fast, i'm all in

I dislike the circles. They look tacky. In any case, I believe that they only light up when the buttons do, but there's no concrete info on this. We'll have to wait and see.

Overheard from a rep at T-Mobile yesterday while discussing the HD2 advantages over the EVO with a newbie customer: "The HD2 has both capabilities and can be switched to Android by jiggling with the firewall, so no point in waiting for that EVO when you can have the HD2 now and switch it over if you want"

I hate to tell you but that salesman either believed that story and had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what he was talking about, or he was merely trying to sell a phone.

 i feel sad for customers who get played like that

Am I alone in that I would have went right up to the customer and told him, "No, that's not true at all"?

Not to cause any drama but I was at a party last saturday and I was the only person there who new what the EVO 4G or the Droid Incredible was and every one was talking about the iPhone 4G and a possible vzw iPhone. Of course me being a EVO owner in waiting I had to tell them enjoy paying twice the amount I pay for a phone that will do half as much..

The point is these people at the party were all between the age 21-34.. This speaks volumes in the argument of the EVO outselling the iPhone..
I work with about 40 people, all aged between 21 and 34 as well. We have a lot of down time at work, and recently the new iphone has been talked about a LOT. I brought up the evo and incredible, only one person said they "think they saw something about that". Hopefully the ad campaign will change that, but as of now, Verizon and ATT fanboys dont really give a care about sprint. In my area, even though sprint has the best coverage and pricing, I only know 3 people that have sprint, and hundreds that have verizon, and they have no intention of switching.

And Jackson, I love you man, but I dont think this will outsell the iphone. The iphone has sold over 50 million units. I would think we will get VERY lucky if the evo sells anywhere close to 1 million in the first month. I know you have said that governments/hospitals are looking into the evo, but unless every single govt worker gets one, we will never outsell apple.

unless you are talking about single day sales, which the evo has a chance at beating. I could see a VERY aggressive ad campaign helping the first weekend of sales, but again, I really dont think we will get a lot of people switching networks just for this phone this year. With the economy now, people arent going to pay an etf just to get a new phone. I can see when people's contracts expire, they will move to sprint. But for the first weekend of sales, i think it will be at least 80% sprint upgrades.

I'll betcha a jelly donut that VZW gets their own version of the EVO before the summer's gone. They always play it tight to the vest with their upcoming phones. I just can't see them letting Sprint have this bad boy to themselves.
