It doesn't look like it will be optional if they are offering the hotspot option for 29.99 a month.

It sucks that we will have to have an add on of 10 a month, but they know they can charge that and get it.

I can't help but feel like sprint is shooting themselves in the foot with this add on charge.

so someone answer this please... is the 10 dollars OPTIONAL cause im only in a 4g area during the summer and i don't really wanna pay for what i won't need

As I am not in 4G area I want to know the same thing.
Finally Ram / Rom specs <-- was my edit
Specs: 4.3 inch WVGA (800 x 480) 65K colors. 1GB ROM, 512 RAM, 8 GB microSD card in the box and capable of using 32 GB microSD.

Long time lurker here since the 20 something pages...

Have a quick question.. I know you guy's probably don't know but I still have sprints unlimited everything plan for $99. I wonder if the 10 fee will be applied to that? Any Ideas?

Yes, they would probably adjust your plan accordingly.

yes -

add $10 if you want 4G on EVO.

add another $30 if you want the 3G+4G hotspot capability.

so it could be another $40/month.

Sprint | News Release

hmm...does that mean what I think it means or am I reading that wrong?

It's the same as I posted before. $69 bucks for unlimited including 4G. Hotspot option on EVO (Speculation) is going to be $10 bucks extra per mo.

Mind that if your are downloading w/4G it is unlimited..they are not regulating 4G yet...Awesome! I can dump my home internet service and get EVO for free w/close to download speeds of Comcast...I am finally wireless..Yes!
Good times..Time for more King George.

Well, my interest is seriously diminished now. I really believed that they would keep the same plans in place and I was dead wrong. That kind of nickel and diming is the reason I avoided some other carriers.

I will probably still get the Evo but I'm no longer in any hurry. Maybe later in the year.

Thanks a lot Sprint. Way to fail at your moment of success.

I thought it said $29.99 for the mobile hotspot, and the $10 add on seems to be a surcharge for 4g.....

Looks to me like 4G requires $10 extra and hotspot requires $29.99 extra.

guys ..... i cannnot believe none of you are commenting on simultanious VOICE data... this is huge for CDMA

Not for lots of us. I never use speaker phone and talk on my phone only when necessary. It's only useful if you do lots of talking on speaker or BT headset.

Really, how many of you are actually going to use the hotspot functionality?

Remember that there will be avid hackers out there who will figure out how to get tethering to work in short order. Do you really need to connect 8 devices via wifi on a regular basis?

It looks like sprint is really banking on the fact that the EVO can connect up to 8 different devices, hence the $29.99 price. Would be great if you can have an a la cart style where if you want to do 1, 2, 4, etc. devices it woud be cheaper...

it's an extra $10/month for 4G at speeds 10X faster than 3G and not available on any other carrier! this is a bargain IMO!

I hope I'm wrong, but the wording of the press release seems to indicate that the $10 is not optional. The release says, "A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before." However, when it mentions the hotspot function, it says "an optional pricing add-on will turn HTC EVO 4G into a mobile hotspot connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices." This blows, especially since I won't be in a 4g city. =(
