Anyone know if there's a way to connect Evo to a car/head unit USB and play music/navigation through the car speakers?

I've got an audio aux input on my car stereo and I've used it to play music from my HTC TP earphone plug through the car stereo. I plan to do the same with the EVO and assuming that all EVO audio( nav, etc.) comes out the earphone plug it should work like a champ.

So Idk how legitimate this is to anyone but when I recently met up with Billsmed and some of the other members of the forum here. I got some one on one time with the EVO and we ran it through the acid test http://acid3.acidtests.org to see what it would score for web browsing and page rendering. It was connected to wifi as was my 3rd gen ipod touch. The EVO scored a 93/100 while the ipod got a perfect 100/100. Nothing crazy but just something I thought I would share.

Not a bad score. From what I hear tho, the acid test stops where it fails, So while it may have been able to finish test 93, it still may have been able to finish the rest. Hopefully froyo's new browser will fix this.

Thanks for the replies. Talking on the phone through the car speakers would be great ! Guess I'll have to toy around and see what I can do when I get it.

That would be cool to do. I have to see if my Kenwood has an AUX. I have a sirius radio in my car. I'm waiting for the Android Sirius App.

I got a 94/100 using Firefox 3.6 and Windows 7.

The guy who got a 20/100 -- using IE?

Finally heard back from my local BB, where I had the #1 pre-order position. They scheduled me to come in at 8am to pick up my EVO on the 4th.

I was called yesterday too... I can't make it untill noon on the 4th  oh well at least I was first too... how many reserves did you have at your BB?!?! I'm calling mine now for a ball-park number.... if possible

I ordered through EVP and was told we could get it a couple days early. I wish I would hear back from them. There is a warehouse in my city so the day it gets shipped I should get it.

How can you open an account w/o a device hooked to it? If you CAN I want to go this route also.

One thing you can do, it activate it on a free phone, then return it on the 4th for the EVO, or see it they will get you an account going first, then attach the phone on the 4th when you get the EVO.

I cannot imagine they are going to turn away a new subscriber, especially if you are coming from At&t, plus that way, you dont have to go through any extra hassle on launch day, you just activate and skate !

This is what I did. Since I had a cheap flip phone on TMo, I went in there just planning on asking questions about possible preorder for the EVO, and walked out with a new contract with Sprint with a cheap flip phone that I will exchange on the 4th, a guaranteed EVO to be put aside for me, and a monthly discount increase from 14% to 27% (which essentially negates the extra $10 a month).

The HDMI cable arrived today, so I hooked the EVO up to my TV and tried it...

This is a picture of my TV with the EVO hooked up through the HDMI input.
It's playing the same video that I uploaded to YouTube yesterday.

I've seen some reports about the output looking a little grainy on the TV and I'd have to agree, but I don't think you can expect it to look better than what was taken with the phone. It's still HD and it looks great. I don't think you'll be making any apologies to your friends when they see themselves on TV from a video made with your phone, either. Instead, I think they'll be awestruck.

For those that haven't ordered the HDMI cable yet, the link that cary328is gave is the correct one. Here's the information from his post:

Arrow Electronics - North American Components (NAC)

Put part # 687860003 in the search box.

The cable is 6.56' long and costs $8.40 + shipping

There was some opposing views on the cable length, so I measured it and Cary was right on.

Edit: I just ran the slideshow option from the gallery and the pictures look just about as good on TV as they do on my computer. So that means you and your family can watch slideshows and videos taken with you phone.

I ran a YouTube video and it didn't show up on the TV. That probably has something to do with sensing a 720p connection?

Thanks so much Bill!! I have 2 cables and NO phone LOL!! That looks amazing! PCmag gave it a pretty negative review but according to that picture you took, it doesnt look bad at all! Have you tried the other "HD" sources like youtube etc yet? Again, thanks for validating for me Bill.

I'll second the THANKS and the "have you tried other sources?" question.

Your preorder at Best Buy came with a gift card. The gift card is good for anything they sell at Best Buy. There is no penalty for not picking up your EVO. Just go buy something else at Best Buy with your gift card.

no you pay for the "Gift Card" they aren't giving you a gift card. its like a deposit for pre-ordering
