Has anyone else noticed that the Sprint/4G website now has a "See 4G Cities" that shows the service in the near future cities as well as the cities that have it?

Sprint: First and Only Wireless 4G from a National Carrier

This may have been posted before, but I had a headache after getting beat up so badly yesterday.

Don't take this wrong, it just amuses me that a lot of you techno geeks are waiting for 4g coverage while an ol' Texas cowboy like me that doesn't know squat about this stuff is already covered in Fort Worth, Texas. Yeeehaaaaw! :D

I would get it, if the EVO didn't exist. It looks like a really nice phone, but the EVO just kills it :D. That 4.3" screen will be amazing to use every day.

The main problem I have with the Incredible is that it's on Verizon :P

They may have nice coverage, but all their plans are grossly overpriced.

Which subjects? :) brings me back to my high school days.

ok guys I have the TP now and I am going to maui on sunday. I want to play with a real android phone should i test drive a Moment on my vacation?

You're going to Maui and you want to test a phone? That makes me sad a little.

On a side note, I'm not touching an Android device until the EVO. I want the whole new experience switching off this windows mobile 6 crap and tiny screen.

Hey guys, How are We DOING TODAY?!?!?!

So i was thinking. Do you know how cool it would be for us all to meet up outside of this event on May 12th if i can find out where it is? Dan is down in Kansas but hey he might be able to slip me an address. I know many of you live in NY, and I'm not too far away from that in RI. I jsut think it would be cool, my little family coming alive haha

Any who. Do not expect a price. We will get a release date though. THis ealier post May 12th - NY event a little info gets released
May 17th LA event (could of sworn I read that somewhere) a little more info released
May 22nd pre-orders begin
June 6th (about 2 weeks later) - release date for BB
June 13th - release date for Sprint

is right on target. THat Event in LA is where we will find out every single spec of the phone. Then on the 6th BB, and on the 13 SS

Not too much longer guys, we have come this far. I hope some you you stick around in this forum for a little while after the release so we can share info and be able to talk to each other on our new EVO"S =]]]

And yess Sprint will be getting the Nexus in May. I said that wayyy back.

is it possible to get knowledgeable or insider member status? That would be sick!!!

Jackson

Hmmm...still trying to get some passes to that LA event. No way I'm paying the $250 per ticket to go to the gala! That's my EVO money...hahahahaha.

Hello everyone,

Been reading for awhile. Moto Droid Owner here and i am getting the EVO and switching to sprint when i comes out. I went to Sprint today to see about discounts for firefighters and see what phones they had for the wife. The guy i talked to was in charge of small company accounts and goverment accounts. I told him i was waiting to switch for the EVO cause they didnt have anything that i wanted now. He put my name on a list he already started and will call me when he gets a exact release date. He did however say that the HTC rep told him early June and possibly and early release. I know not to take much from reps after following the droid release thread everyday for a month. but it seems to fit in with what you guys have.

Well I sure hope that they work out the NYC signal you showed us.

Is it possible thatvyou could expound on the chipsets that the evo is using for 4g and how it is different from clears 1g chips? I'm curious to know what changes they made and why.

Thx for all your input.

Hmm not sure I have no inside info on that at all. I liked the May 22 date because I figured if you keep those two big events prior 12-17 why not roll out the phone at that point? or at least pre orders

But Jackson seems to be the man as far as dates go.

I am assuming the 4g roll out still would play a major factor on that release..

But there is only some much 4G installs they can do before they will have to release it.

The roll out is tough because you set towers but they don't always meet expectations so you have to fill in the holes to try and make the coverage acceptable or tweak the towers.

My Prediction is it outsells the Droid and Iphone 74 day records

Where did you find out there would be a $250 dollar price tag on tickets? Can you post a link?

This was Clock's first post and this is what I said to him: Did the guy piss me off? Yes, but I was trying to be cordial. In my opinion, he had a lot of balls coming in here on his first post acting like he owned the place telling us how to do things. If you guys think I overreacted, I'll send him apology. There's only been a couple of people that I saw as (potential) trouble makers from the get-go in this thread and he was one of them.

Off topic:
Once again Bill, I'm sorry that you felt threatened / ruffled / pissed off by my post which was further exacerbated by my post count.

I'm not here to troll, just to read up on quality info provided by some of the posters here and read some of the ideas other useful posters are putting out there (like what they're installing, for example). I was just asking posters to try to be sensitive to fluff posts to help keep the thread useful.

I think my post which you linked to made that clear, but I digress. No need for an insincere apology.

Back on topic:
We know that the EVO is capable of outputting video via HDMI (micro / mini / whatever). Delving further into that - what do we know about the audio output via HDMI? My assumption would be that we would get the full gamut, including DD 5.1 / DTS / whatever you can send down HDMI. Anyone know if that's a true story or not?

I'd also be interested to see what sort of video formats EVO is going to support out of the box. This ability is a "killer app" for me - I only have a DVD player hooked up to the flatscreen in my workout room, so if I'll be able to take, say, a .mkv file and just plug in one cable from my phone to the TV, that'll be pretty sweet functionality.

It's amazing what phones are capable of doing today. June can't come soon enough!

I doubt .mkv support, given the somewhat illicit nature of MKV files. I know the format is not illegal, but big companies can be scared of embracing the file format of choice of movie rippers.

:) I'll need something with gps to get around and my TP doesn't last long using gps

The phone is amazing and all, but with a 1 ghz processor it definitely won't handle outputting full HD quality sound and video. It will be great to a point, just once the bitrate levels get really high you're going to lose some frames.

I assume the HDMI will output at least 5.1 audio though. But it'll probably have to be compressed audio.

That makes sense - I was just looking for a method to rip my HD programs off of my DVR (I don't do the pirating thing) so I'd be able to play them in the workout area with full HD. I have a media server set up with wireless, so in theory, I would network to the EVO via 802.11 and stream it over. That's probably custom app territory, though, you're right.

I tend to think you're right - that's why I think it's an interesting spec we don't know about yet. Maybe it doesn't output 5.1. Maybe Snapdragon can murder the stream and output 7.1, uncompressed. Who knows? Unfortunately, I think that's one of those low-level details we won't find out until we try it ourselves.

Even if it's just two channel, though... that's still pretty sweet.

You know, I was looking at the other screenings going on at the Sprint sponsored event and I noticed Top Gun was one of the films being screened. Maybe I'll pay 30 bux to that and see if I can get into the Gala from there...LOL.

I'll admit it's more than capable to output HD quality content, the question is at what cost. I want to see real world use battery life statistics. I'm pretty sure it would do decent on stand-by but what I want to know is how many hours of video playback you can get from a full charge.

2-3 hours

2-3 hours

So that's maybe 1-2 movies going on battery alone? I'm assuming that's not doing any other phone functions except watching video playback.

And is that on full display brightness w/o the backlight dimming after a certain amount of time?

That was one of the thoughts that crossed my mind :D. I'm still bugging some insiders to get me a ticket, we'll see how that goes.

Correct stream alone on battery. Back light will always dim if nothing is happening unless you change the setting

Only problem for me is I work M-F and the premiere is on a Monday. Even though I work fairly close to the Mann theatres, it's still a 30 minute (minimum) side street drive through rush hour traffic...LOL.

If you are screening a movie over HDMI out I say bring your charger :) I watched a movie on my TP the other day and my battery went from 80% to 20%. Snapdragon should play with less batt drain but it will still be significant.
