Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

That's another reason I actually like the June 6 date (and trust in the information provided by Jackson). EVP deals with employees of large corporations. Considering the industry I'm in, I have to think there's some significance to the timing.

The thing is, I'm always a proponent of schedules changing for multiple reasons. If Sprint has the ability to launch the phone earlier than originally planned, I see no reason for them to hold back, just because of a pre-determined "schedule" that might have been over-estimated. Obviously, with the rumors about the iPhone and whatnot, if they're ready to go early, I'm all for it.

Ok June 6 it is. I am sending Bill a PM now..:D

I am actually shocked at how many people do know about this phone, that are non-techie..

This phone is going to be launched, to Major Industries, Business and Gov etc.. A lot of people will be exposed to this phone..

On the week that Engadget broke this phone the replies were like nothing I had ever seen on that site in a short amount of time..

This phone has literally been written about by any one with a Website/Blog/forum and a keyboard
Still, ask anyone on the street and I'll bet they don't know what you're talking about. That's why a media blitz is so important.

I know there was some doubt cast here a few minutes ago about nothing being said about the phone on May 12th, but the Android Central article I Posted a minute ago said the HTC EVO 4G is going to be demonstrated that day. To do that, WiMAX has to be working. I can't image an event like that with nothing said about the phone. I think that's just the beginning. After that people will be clamoring to get the device and I seriously doubt they'll have to wait until June, July, August or September to get it. That would be suicide.

I will give you a fact.

If sprint releases it in June. They are going to get slaughtered.

Can we play question and Speculation?

I was told the phone was boxed and ready to ship. Another poster said it was not ready..

Do you think the phone is boxed and ready to ship?

Long time 'stalker' (started reading jackson's updates on the old Sprint forums back in the 'Supersonic' days), figured it was time to make myself known I guess, even though I don't offer much other than my support :)

I just wanted to express my thanks to everyone for all of their inside info on the EVO since it's first emerging from Sprint/HTC's bowels. I've been on my old PPC6800/Mogul for about a year and a quarter now, but recently it stopped charging completely. I was stuck with the pointless replacement plan, so I was forced to move back to my WM6-cooked Treo 755WX. One lesson I've learned over the years in IT is plainly:

Windows Mobile is NOT sufficient for a smartphone.

The EVO will be my first 'Droid, having only played around with my brother's Hero as he anxiously awaits his 2.1 upgrade (probably just in time to sell it to me for my wife, as he's going EVO too!).

Anyway.. this thing is an IT professional's deepest wet dream, and I'm *so* very anxious for more info just as everyone else is. Looking forward to the 12th for that big launch event and any info delegated from you guys. Pittsburgh's also slated for the 'first round' WiMax/4G upgrades, so I'm uber-pumped for that.

One thought... I honestly don't think that its going to be a major issue to both jailbreak as well as hotspot this thing with a little trickery. I plan on leveraging a good friend of mine with help on that.. Some of you may know him as the developer of CyanogenMod (I host his servers, used to work with him, get drunk with him, etc), the unlocked/homebrew ROM run on a lot of G1 (and now Hero, Nexus One, etc) devices.

Anyway, just wanted to intro myself and say hey to all of the fun folks I've been following for so long!

Sprint will sell less Evos than Apple will sell iPhones. This is regardless of a May, June, July, etc. launch. The iPhone is a household name and Evo is a great upgrade but people are weird creatures. They go with the bandwagon despite direct evidence to the contrary. Not to stray off topic but just choose your favorite religious, political, social, commercial phenomenon to facepalm about and you will be reminded of this fact.

People follow the crowd and in this case, the crowd has a fever, the only prescription for which is more iPhones.

I believe it was yesterday that SP said the phone was ready, but it still needed some work on the software. I can't see that holding up shipments.

A couple of weeks ago, a guy named LS1 posted a Radio Shack inventory list showing something like 146,000 EVO's in stock. If that was a hoax, it was a pretty elaborate one.

I honestly Disagree on this.. ( I know Crazy huh?)

On another note. What happens if Sprint gets the I phone?

Unfortunately, it is very, very easy to fake an inventory screen.

additionally I'll have the best phone that will be available,

That's up for debate. The closer it gets to the Galaxy S release, the less time it will have as the big boy on the block. I personally dont want a galaxy s because i dont want a keyboard and i know my city is getting 4g soon, but for the majority of the country without 4g coverage, the galaxy s is looking pretty good.

Welcome mynd.

I'm not disagreeing, but what a cruel joke if it was a fake.

I honestly Disagree on this.. ( I know Crazy huh?)

I love the idea of the iPhone coming to Sprint.

That's cool. Just like the other examples I gave, we base our opinions and beliefs on our experiences. In my personal experience, people either love their iPhones, wish they could afford an iPhone, or can't stand Apple/iPhone or AT&T. The first two together *in my personal experience* make up more people.

As far as a Sprint iPhone, I will just say that other than a few smart comparison shoppers online, I know of not a single person who would switch to Sprint from their carrier. It drives me insane because I can't even talk about it to people without hearing about how terrible and shitty Sprint is and how I have a ghetto carrier for people who can't afford an iPhone or "The Network". It's truly disappointing. I really don't know how an iPhone would help them out but I seriously do not see Apple going with anyone but Verizon for an CDMA or 4G launch.

My personal prediction is a LTE iPhone next year on Verizon. This is based on nothing more than guesswork, conjecture, personal experience, anecdotal evidence, and pulling things straight out of my ass :D

Ha. Love the SNL reference. "I got a fever, and the only prescription...is more cowbell!"

Cowbell vs iPhone. Both equally capable of making a clear phone call.

Which is why Sprint WILL steal AT&T customers. If they haven't already jumped to Verizon.

I am guessing June as well mainly due to the last 2 big summer phones (Instinct and the Palm Pre) were both released in June.. I think it makes total sense to release in May because if they announce the release date May 12th.. why make people wait a month or even more??? So hoping for May.. thinking June though.
