And then we will know who was right, and who was not. In the mean time all this conversation should just be fun, there is no reason at all to get angry, frustrated, or offended.
No where near angry frustrated or offended. I got off my lazy butt and emailed some people that know. Their response was. The drivers and kernel development was brought over from Home - Linux WiMAX. Full user face was brought by clear, in the link. But the full use of everything was not called until 2.1. You see the sprint developer forum that you see, is for the use of 2.0 eclair.

To conclude, I would speculate that the Evo will still come with Android 2.1, and which has received some minor modifications in the OS level to support WIMAX. Effectively a band-aid workaround, like what the SDK advises 3rd party developers to implement until the Froyo SDK is released. *crosses fingers for IO conference*
According to what I was told, there is no minor mods. The 2.1 was reworked to full support wimax. The elcare in the developers forums was 2.0 and they assumed that 2.1 would be froyo. When google bumped over 2.0 and changed eclare to 2.1 the docs, never got updated.

So if I understand this correctly ... 2.1 supports WIMAX, just not automatically?
No, what I was told, with most wimax cards, it is support from boot up.

Everyone is placing bets that developers are the first ones to update their files, when they change something. I will state this now. Having worked with developers for years. File updates are the last thing on the list.

IF I had a dollar for every time I came across a developers file that said,
"Write stuff here by xx/xx/xxxx"

Bottom line, everyone tells me that sprint and google start working on this concept from 2007. The wimax code was always part of the main structure and removed to keep the footprint small in non wimax phones/pdas/netbook. Total and complete development was add after eclare 2.0, which they thought was going to be froyo 2.1. The workaround they posted on the website works both with 2.0 and 2.1. That is what I was told and I believe it. The sdk is still being worked on and developed to include full use.

No hard feelings and I am not angry. Just tired of people reading stuff found on the web, and taken as the truth.

Seriously, if the phone isn't released soon, Apple could surprise everyone with 1080p video recording/playback, HDMI out (probably through some proprietary dock they'd charge $$ for), a faster processor, MUCH more storage, longer battery life, and a higher res screen.

Something like that could sway some of the Apple folks thinking of converting *because of this phone* back to drinking Apple's kool aid.

Not me, I'm just saying. Release the phone!

i agree about apple. I don't think people were that impressed about the new OS that will be coming out this summer, it didnt show anything really new.. basically apple trying to catch up with other phones.. So i think this would be the best time for Sprint to actually challenge.. However, so if apple comes out and throws major hardware benefits.. that definitely would push a lot of people who are thinking of switching back to AT&T.. unless of course they announce IPHONE for Verzion..

Hey guys...I know this is seriously off topic...but I really like the little android guy with his tongue hanging out. And...I thought instead of adding him to all of my posts...I might use him for my profile pic...but....when I enlarge him he's a bit blurry...and I'm not sure I could successfully import him into my profile pic anyway.

Some people here have clever photo's of the Android....did you/they create this/these images yourself/themselves? I don't want to infringe on any copyrights! LOL Just think the Android with the tongue hanging out represents me pretty well! Tee hee!

HTC Evo 4G & iPhone 4G Release Dates One Day Apart

I can't stand ozcarguide.com -- but more importantly look at who their source is!!!

Wow....hmmm. Okay...so on to real news! Hee hee. But you know...if this were to happen...it might not be the end of the world. I said this before...but of course I'm half nuts....and really don't know what I'm talking about...but other than that you should listen to me....it might not be such a bad thing! If the EVO 4G is fast....and rocks it on WiMax...and does things the iPhone can't..and on a less expensive plan....it might actually kick the iPhone to the curb. Dangerous to be sure....and there will be people who will go for the iPhone because they are fans...or it has name recognition....but...isn't this like the longest not stop trail of dot dot dot comments strung together....anyway....the actual reviews and bloggers might...just might...show the EVO 4G as the new king of the hill. But did I say dangerous? You know...anyway you slice it...there will be a head to head comparison at some point!

That doesn't surprise me at all. I've been hearing rumors of a Sprint Wimax phone running Android since...well...since Android and Wimax were in the works. When I tested Wimax (Xohm) in Baltimore in late 2008, there was already talk about such a device in development. It was all just kind of vague and everyone agreed it was likely but not coming for a while. Glad to see my patience paid off. I've been using Wimax here for over a year but only on my laptop and at home. It will be great to have it on my phone finally.

I'd like to get my music ready for the EVO, so how does the android music player (with htc's mods as part of the newest sense seen on the desire/incredible) handle music files/libraries? Currently I use Slide2Play on winmo and winamp on my computer, but without an organizer program like itunes or wmp, I just have music organized in folders artist/album/song.mp3 with a "folder.jpg" in each album folder for album art, and good id3 info on all the files. It works perfectly with slide2play, so I'm hoping the android setup reads files similarly and doesn't require a syncing program like itunes.

I've never had an Andriod phone, but one thing I loved about my sister's G1 is that the media player automatically downloads and displays the lyrics to the music you listen to! I've tried looking for an app like that for WM for the longest time & I couldn't find anything. Just another reason I can't wait to get the Evo.

I'm not sure who the Evo tester is/was (I think it may have been Self Praise), but does anyone know first-hand if we could keep the Evo plugged in while streaming music/using hotspot/outputting video via HDMI and not drain the battery? I plan on streaming a LOT of video, especially when the World Cup starts, but I don't want to leave work at the end of the day with my battery drained.

These guys are a riot! Like they would somehow know the iphone release date.....the apple secret police would knock on their door!

With new Android phones being announced almost every week I hope Sprint gets the EVO out the door sooner rather than later. While most of us on here can justify in our minds why we are willing to wait for the EVO other people (who don't have as strong of a willpower) will start to justify why they don't need the EVO and will talk themselves into getting another device because it's available. Lots of impatient people out there.

I know this was a page or two back, but bare with me i am catching up. man, that video made me drool. i love the white back, too bad the front is white also.

TS

is it just me or does the back plate say supersonic? Maybe that's the phone white glove guy had?
