Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Nobody has said it's a lock that the Evo will do simultaneous voice and data. SP said it "looked good" but it wasn't a confirmed thing.

And to do the simultaneous voice and data, you need to either have wifi active or be ina 4G area...you can't do it over 3G. At least that's my interpretation.

Yes - to further clarify, due to limitations of CDMA, you cannot be on 3G and voice simultaneously. They're working on getting voice and WIMAX simultaneously but their progress has not publicly confirmed yet.

We'll find out at release only. I'm hoping Sprint's not touting this feature because so few people will be on 4G that they don't want to create the impression (and complaints) that it will be the typical experience. That said, I'm also hoping this can be done while on 4G since 1) 4G can handle it or 2) Evo can handle simultaneous 4G and 3G antenna traffic. I thought I read somewhere that the 4G and 3G antennae were separate rather than an integrated/dual function unit which would make it more likely that both voice and data could happen in a 4G area.

Simultaneous voice/data seems small, but it would really have an impact on how the iPhone and ATT market.

well after watching this thread/forum for a while i might as well join in, I HOPE THIS BEAST LANDS SOONER THEN LATER, but if it is sooner i hope sprint lets me upgrade a week or 2 early since my 1yr upgrade eligabily is june 1st. BTW, thanks for all the cool into in this thread and the good entertainment!!!!!

the 4G wimax radio is separate from the CDMA/3G EVDO radio. That's what makes it possible. We'll see if it's enabled.

From what has been stated here in the past after the 18th of the month prior to your eligibility date they will allow you to upgrade.

just checking on my Twitter and I came across a tweet from a sprint rep that I follow... not sure where bill is but I'm sure he'll be interested in this as well as anyone else from these areas... there where also a couple other spots as well in other tweets...

"Hey Tampa, Orlando, Daytona & Jacksonville, FL! *You're getting #Sprint 4G this summer! #EVO #Overdrive #Gaming #Value"

Reasons I am getting EVO:
1. 4.3 inch camera
2. 8 Megapixel camera
3. 1 GB Memory (question, will this make run smoother? faster?)
4. HDMI
5. Android 2.1 or better

Don't care about 4G, I will eventually get it anyway (Orlando, FL)

Hey everyone, earlier this week I made a bold (though not very likely) prediction that Sprint/Disney would let Evo users stream Prince of Persia onto their Evo's once, after purchase, but nobody replied. Last night I thought of a more plausible scenario.

I'm thinking on the 12th, since they'll be showing off the Evo, then an advanced screening Prince of Persia, they'll probably combine the two and show the movie, then say the movie was playing off the Evo storage, or even better, via live HD video stream!!! Could you imagine the publicity??!!! Although they'd need to invite some of the more popular news sites like Engadget. What do you guys thing? Good idea, bad idea? Possible/plausible/improbable/impossible?

Not plausible given that the resolution of digital CINEMA projectors squashes 1080p. The film, if streamed from the phone, onto a theater grade screen, wouldn't look so hot.

They can format the video to play in a letterbox. The film aspect ratio neatly fits into the 16:9 aspect ratio of the HD format with letterboxing.

Fixed it.

Huh? I don't think you're following.

The EVO is only capable of 720p output, which at best has a 1366

I don't think he was talking about aspect ratio. He was talking resolution. From what I remember most digital movie theater projectors are in the 4k range  (way more than 1080p). That is why it would look crappy on a huge screen. Looks good on your 55" but stretch that image to 50' and it would look really crappy IMO.

Edit:looks like Bek stole my thunder - good quick typing there Bek!

Far as I know, we still don't know where the event is being held, so they may not have an actual cinema projector.

Too slow!!!! :p

Now to build upon the original idea. If I were in charge of the NY Event and wanting to promote both the film and the Evo, what I'd do instead is set up a bunch of kiosks/display HDTVs in the lobby, all connected to Evo's, and have those streaming different videos (Evo ads, P.O.P. trailers, etc.). And have them being streamed over WiMAX from somewhere, instead of playing off of internal storage.

THAT would showcase two of the phone's top features in a very successful manner!

(Hey lurking Sprint Rep - yeah you... I'll be happy to "lease" you this idea in exchange for a free Evo!)

I like that idea a whole lot better than showing the whole movie on the big screen. The other thing that they could do is not show that the EVO was streaming the videos, then when Hesse talks, he reveals it to a surpised/gasping audience :D.

Given that one of the rumored reasons behind this event is to formally announce NY WiMAX coverage, I could consider that a very plausible possibility... though also, I would expect 1/2 the audience to already be expecting this, so am a bit more doubtful as to how surprised they'll wind up being. *shrug*

In either case, HEY LURKING SPRINT DUDE - TAKE MY IDEA AND MAKE IT SO! ... AND FED-EX THAT EVO TO ME ALREADY!!! For crying out loud, you gave one to Oprah, and she's just down the street from me! :D

Okay, stand back people cause, well, let me just explain...

I'm getting ready for my trip so I go Radio Shack to pick up some voltage converters and it dawn on me, that they should have the HD2 so I go check it out. OMFG Its freaking awesome. Big screen, feels really good in my hands, skinny, a bit wide but just perfect considering the screen.
I freaking love it. If this is what an EVO feels like, I couldn't ask for anything more. WOW.

ITS FREAKING AWESOME...

I just can't wait for the EVO.

okay, I've calmed down now. (breathe, breathe)

TS

Did the same a week or two back and I agree... see for all of you that beleive the phone may be to big or what have you... you really need to go check out a HD2 and get a feel. The nice thing is that it runs a winmo version of sence, thus allowing you to not only get a feel for the physical aspect of the phone but the OS feel on such a GODly screen!
