to BSOD,

it will not run andriod 2.2. if it runs andriod 2.2 it will not make it on time for the early or the rumored 6.6.10 release date. andriod 2.2 has not been released. some sites did say that Evo will definitely get the andriod 2.2 upgrade when it's ready for the public. andriod 2.2 is still in beta @ google, codename to be Froyo.

I am with you on it. I can only say what I saw. I saw an EVO running 4G with everything we been hoping for and been testing. I am really exhausted. I would explain Vo4G, Video calls, and etc...I just looked at the screen and it said 2.2 Eclair. Google rep was there and he said "Expect Fryo in 6 weeks" My team said "Thank God, we can rest" I just know the phone is done, there is no more tweaks, tips, or tricks. It's just done..Love you guys..I am going to crawl under rock and die. I really just want to die for a few days. I am just like you guys...I will crawl out from under my rock and be in line to get an EVO like everyone else.

I know Jackson says 6/6, as does the new girl bringing news today, and SelfPraise said he hadn't heard anything but 6/6 or 6/13, but I think May 28th or 29/30 (weekend) makes perfect sense and will end up being the correct date. The main argument against it is that it's memorial day weekend and many people will be traveling and not focused on buying a phone, but personally I would definitely not hesitate to cancel or postpone my vacation if it competed with getting the EVO on day one.

If they announce the price/date on the 12th, it would be just over two weeks till the 28th, but 3 and a half weeks until June 6th. Most new phones are available for sale 2 weeks after the release date being announced. Official Droid release info was given on 10/22/2009 and was available on 11/6/2009, Palm Pre was announced 5/19/2009, available 6/6/2009, htc Incredible was announced on 4/14/2010 and was available on 4/29/2010.

All those were right around two weeks. So I'm going with a May 12th announcement, and memorial day weekend availability. It stays ahead of the iphone frenzy, and matches up with the Prince of Persia opening. If the date is officially on saturday, the 29th, it would be cool if bestbuy or sprint stores had a special midnight release party the night before. It's a pretty nerdy thing, and I'm not a COMPLETE geek, but I would SO be there!
Ok long post coming :) ...I was the first person to say anything about the Evo being released on or around the Prince of Persia release, glad to see people finally agree with me or came to that conclusion on their own. :) i have been saying this since we found out the phone was tied in with Disney and P.O.P. Also as I stated way before that, I think the JUne 6th and 13th dates are line in the sand dates. These would be the latest dates that the Evo could be released. A lot of companies will set these dates and then if things work out they will release the product sooner. I also believe if the Evo is releasing with P.O.P. we will begin to see TV and other types of ads for the movie, the phone and together very soon, at least by the 12th if not sooner. As for the surprises that we are to see when the Evo is released here are a few ideas. A. The Evo will come loaded with a Prince of Persia game. B. The Evo will come with a Disney app allowing for the rental and or purchase of Disney movies to be played on the Evo and TO CONNECT THE EVO TO YOUR HI DEFINITION TV AND WATCH. C. May come with a free Prince of Persia movie ticket or a pass to download a digital copy when the time comes. Of course EVERYTHING I SAY IS SPECULATION!!!! But I have worked in the cellular industry and have been privy to see how some things are handled i.e. launches. Also I don't just sit here and say what if, I research and use clues and logic. :) That being said if the Evo does not come out until the 6th or 13th of June what can I say, it is only speculation! :)

Things are certainly heating up in this thread with the addition of rebella and BSOD's information. However there seems to be some conflict in everything coming full circle, so I'll just err on the side of caution and expect a June 6th and 2.1 release and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

Probably a dumb question, but if I don't get the phone until late July, it will have 2.2 pre-loaded on it at that point, correct?

hmm. not saying ur wrong. but the numbers don't match with the names.
Esclair from what i understand is 2.1. Froyo is 2.2. So 2.2 esclair sounds like it's a 2.1.2 which is a modified version of esclair to work with 2.2 froyo.

damn those numbers are confusing

Won't really matter when you get the phone whatever OS ships with it is what you're gonna get. Any update there after you can update yourself. Not like they're going to recall thousands of phones to add a very minor update them re-ship everything wouldn't make sense.

Do you have any idea if there are plans to integrate video chat with Google's in-browser video chat? I use it with people in the Gmail website all the time and that would go a long way to making video chat useful. Since they are both Google it would just make sense...also I think it would be hella cool to video call someone's browser from my phone :D

i'm not bluescreen... but from pass experience with google, they seem to do everything revolving around their own spectrum. which means they try to integrate everything that they have in their Labs, Tools, and etc. Documents work with Gmail, Calendar ties to documents, and etc etc.

this means, i'm sure they will think of a way to tie googlechat to video chat and andriod

We know there is android 2.2 coming, we know there is Android FROYO coming. I haven't seen ANYTHING from Google that says they are one and the same. It is all speculation. We'll find out soon enough

does this sum up everything

Source: Google's Rubin sits down with NYT; talks openness in Android
As the conversation progressed, the topic of support for Flash - an important topic for Android enthusiasts - came up and Rubin promised that Froyo (Android version 2.2) would fully support Flash, stating that being open "means not being militant about the things consumer are actually enjoying." Once again, Rubin was probably hinting at Apple's unwillingness to work with Adobe to bring Flash to the iPhone or iPad, despite the public outcry for the standard.

Ok, I just heard back from my corp Sprint rep. They said the key dates are all still not supposed to be discussed (obviously), but they agreed that we "probably" have the most current information on all the dates.

So thank you rbella for your posts and being willing to share with us in advance of the rest of the world.

FYI, for those of you that are doubters on the future of Sprint, change is comming! They are going to be a powerhouse of technology, over the next few years. I have been packing away lots of their stock and I have no doubts it will be double or tripple by the end of this year. (this is my personal opinion only and not a reccomendation for you to buy).

Clearly stated 2.2 for flash. And they are saying that evo 4g will have flash......

No, it says Froyo will support Flash the writer added 2.2 in parenthesis

I'm not saying 2.2 is not Froyo all i'm saying is that Google has NEVER used the term Froyo and 2.2 together. If you read Bluescreen's post he said EVO will have 2.2 at launch and Froyo in 6 weeks. Sounds very plausible to me

I know that I would get an uber phone, but what about going over the 5gig fap..I mean if you go over 5gigs in a month, then it's .25 for every MB..that can add up fast?

If you're on 4G, then there is no 5GB cap, however, if your area is 3G only, then the 5GB cap still applies.

there are still some spots open in my email group. drop your address over via pm in my box

Jackson

Jackson,

Do you have a twitter account? It would be easier to set one and have every one follow you on twitter for the info you are posting in emails. Now you would have to post in 140 char or less but it can be done.

Just a suggestion...

Evo will have flash lite to ship, which is what the Incredible has. Full blown flash 10.1 is in FroYo.

While on the subject of Flash, can somebody discuss the difference between "Flash Lite" and "Flash 10.1"?

I figured if I got the phone later, it would not be part of the original stock that was shipped in early June. Either way, all OS updates are free, correct?

However, I'm still debating where and how I'm going to purchase it.

Here are the overall positives/negatives that I have thought about so far:

Mortar and Brick Sprint Store:
-Best chance to negotiate on price or accessories added.
-Will probably have either best or competitive deal.
-Possibly like Verizon, can transfer your contact info to your new phone. (Not sure on that as I've been with Verizon)
-Can probably get the activation fee waived.
-Take phone home with you.
-Possibly get some tutorials or help if needed.
-Can adjust calling plan and other details as needed.
-Have to mail in rebate from what I've heard.
-30 day guarantee.

Online Sprint:
-As good a price as store, possibly better due to online promotions.
-Less ability to customize plan or change things.
-Have to download contacts to google or something else and then load them to new phone.
-Have to wait for phone delivery, 1 to 3 days possibly.
-Won't be able to waive activation fee unless they have a special running.
-No ability to negotiate on anything.
-Probably same deal on rebate, must be mailed in and then wait.
-30 day guarantee.

Best Buy:
-Instant Rebate - no mail in.
-May be able to get phone cheaper if they match or include different specials, etc..
-No idea on how much you can customize your account/plan/etc... (have never bought phone through Best Buy)

Wirefly:
-Seems like best price available on most phones, but it varies depending on carrier and phone.
-Can get $50 back on Bing Cashback program.
-Instant rebate or less cost matching a rebate price.
-30 day guarantee, they include a shipping label should you need to send it back.
-Usually get the phone next day on FedEx.
-If phone has problems, can still take it to an actual Sprint store for help or trade in.
-Sometimes can't customize the plans as you would want. Not sure how the EVP or SERO programs would be applied to account. Probably have to work through Sprint Customer Service to get applied discounts.
-Have to pay activation fee, Wirefly claims to have no ability to waive those.

That's all I can think of right now. For me it will come down to who has it listed at what price, and what options will I have control over by ordering through them.

I figure if I have waited as long as I have to get the phone, another day or 2 won't kill me. :)

This information isn't really correct, you say you can't customize your plan if you buy it from 3rd party vendor:

That's completely false, in fact when I joined Sprint I joined through Best buy which was a pretty bad experience.

Just wanted to clear up any misunderstanding. (Highlighted in Red)

- I didn't say you can't customize your plan, I said I didn't know how much. I know when I have looked at upgrading on Verizon through Wirefly, I didn't have the same options as going on Verizon.com. I don't know if that would be different with Sprint on Wirefly, and I haven't purchased a phone through Best Buy.

Glad to hear that you can get all that fixed by calling Sprint Customer service if needed. Depending on where I get the phone, I'll just have to plan to call them and get my plan discounts applied.

Does Radio Shack usually have pretty good deals on new phones? Enough to make it worthwhile to go there?

Another online store to possibly consider is HTC's Shop America. They were selling T-Mobiles HD2 for $99 for a few weeks when it launched and were selling the Incredible for $149.

I thought I saw the Incredible for $99 on Wirefly or LetsTalk...
