This is one of the problems here people take statements personal. I wasn't saying anything about YOU. When I first bought an HDMI cable some places wanted 50 60 dollars even more I bought one from Monoprice for $12. Monoprice will have it soon It will be cheaper. Thats all I meant

I understand and I apologize if I sounded defensive. I was simply offering what I thought was new information, and a source for something that others may appreciate.

I misinterpretid your statement as sniping about what I posted. Had your response been something like, "Thanks for the info, but I'm going to wait until a cheaper one is available from XYZ company" or "Here's a link to a better/cheaper one", that would have added something to the thread.

When any other company has one to offer, I would appreciate a link.

Let me follow that up by saying this:

I am not intending on trying to paint a doom's day picture here. I am merely stating my discontent and questioning of sprint's launching strategies. I think they cannot afford many more bad ones...imo

I totally agree!! If sprint does an awesome marketing campaign and place the HTC Evo at a reasonable price ($200.00 w/ contract) and not introduce some crazy EVO only plan that raises the price on it's current customers then I think sprint will finally be a strong threat to the top two carriers. BUT Sprint has to do something to gain new customers but also remember to think about retaining the customers they have.

why are there not more people up in arms with sprint about potentially releasing a phone at or around the same week as a new iphone?

Because the iPhone will is going to sell a few orders of magnitude more than the EVO regardless of how good the phone is or when it gets released.

I know that we're all fixated on the EVO and think it's the greatest thing ever, but let's be honest with ourselves - this phone isn't going to single-handedly kill the iPhone. I think Android is going to nip away at it little by little, but it's not like this phone is that much huger than the Incredible and thus have that much more of an impact. Most of the folks who buy the iPhone aren't doing it because it has more megapixels or a faster processor or 4G or whatever else.

Playing the "I-own-stock" role, I think what's important for Sprint is that they get their advertising campaign in before official news of the iPhone comes out. If we are to believe the rumors, that's supposed to be happening this month, before the iPhone comes out, so... I don't see a huge problem.

I really don't think the iPhone is going to have a huge impact on the EVO's sales, but at the same time, they obviously shouldn't be stupid about when they're going to market it. As long as their campaign kicks in before Apple's announcement, then they'll be in good shape.

I agree about Sprint versus Verison's ability to handle the iPhone.

There is a rumor going around that Apple gave ATT a 6 month extension on the IPhone..

I believe it.. I think Apple will sit back and give Sprint and Verizon that time to build out and show which 4g network is best, before making their decision on a CDMA carrier..

My bet is if this is true.. Sprint will kick Verizon in the nuts in this time frame

If Apple delivers a better product on a comparable network as the EVO there is nothing Sprint can do..

A quicker launch date or slicker ad campaign will not be enough to over come the Apple machine if it is in fact a comparable product to the EVO..

Sprint has a winner on its hands.. A better product and a faster network to run it on.

They also have targeted Industries, business and rural expansion areas with it's associations with its resellers..

They have nothing to fear right now.

"better" doesn't always win. history is replete with the carcasses of once great now gone companies who had "better" products but botched the strategic execution.

Sprint has been marketing and Pre selling the EVO/Wimax for over a year..

That is one thing I have been saying. They need to start the ad campaign ASAP! I have already seen a few Prince of Persia commercials. Since Sprint is "in bed" with Disney and the Prince of Persia movie they should throw a commercial in after one of the movie's commercials. Or even offer one free pass to see the movie when you buy your Evo or something descent like that.

Daddo, I would not buy that cable. Even though it says "Evo" cable it also shows a picture of a "mini HDMI" connector and the description says "mini HDMI." The EVO has a "micro HDMI" (HDMI Type D [spec 1.4]) connector. I'm sure once the EVO is actually released there will be plenty of adapters and cables.

Agreed that it needs the Type D connector. I contacted the company and they confirmed by email that it was a Type D connector.

Once I know when the EVO will be available, I will likely order a cable so I'll have it when I get the phone.

nobody knows - the agreement is top secret. imagine how many iPhones Apple would sell if they would open it up to Verizon and Sprint. i say that's Apple's "nuclear" option. i know they make a lot of money from AT&T but i would strike while the iron is hot and get maximum mindshare at this point in the game before Android takes more mindshare. i think even at the expense of less short-term profits, Apple should open the iPhone up now to Verizon and Sprint for the sake of long-term profits and mindshare. get people hooked on the iPhone upgrade path now and hook them for the future for not only the iPhone but the halo effect onto all Apple products - ie Macs, iTunes, iPods, etc.

i don't rely on USA Today for valid information.

Me either usually but I do remember when the phone was getting ready to launch I read and watched everything about it. I knew it was like 5 or 6 years but couldn't remember. I do however remember watching the keynote and they stated the length of the exclusivity there and a few other places.

I don't think $24.95 for a 3' one is that expensive. I'm sure we'll see cheap aftermarket ones from Asia and on ebay, so you can wait for them and their questionable quality.

I think that Sprint has a plan to market and release this phone. I think that they have been developing the "plan" for a year or better as they developed the phone. I think that the iphone didn't then or now play into the overall scheme of the "plan". The only reason the iphone is so big is that it was the first big touch deployment. Now the cool-aid drinking fans can't see past their cup o juice. The EVO will be a giant step to making the iphone crowd see that there is something else out there. Will it "kill" the iphone......nope. Just my opinion, please don't flame me too much....hehe

Yes bad was not the right term.. They need to fill in coverage areas and upgrade some of the hardware that was installed.

Those upgrades are under way..

Also all past and present 4g areas will get "software" upgrades that will improve on current service...

This is being explained in simple layman terms, it is a bit more technical than this but you get the idea

Actually I hate to admit this but Sprint is scarred. They are making some great moves and I hope for the best and think they will do well..

Clearwire is the company you need to keep an eye on in my opinion.. I would by stock in them pronto..
