TS out

Welcome back TS, I think there are only a couple of us left that you would recogize anymore.

Anywho, just a point of clarification, please dont use the whole forum for the $10 fee, one thread will do :D

I have three questions.

1. Where is better to pre-order? Best Buy or Radio Shack? I mean, Radio Shack does have the advantage of offering $20.00 gift card towards an EVO accessories. I'm thinking about buying a case. But how much does it cost? This is the problem of buying accessories at a store. While you can get a nice case for $3-$11 at the most on Ebay, Amazon, internet, at the store it could cost $25-$30 bucks. That's just not fair.

2. What about insurance? My girlfriend has HTC Incredible and out the Assurion insurance paying like $5-$6 dollars a month. Does Sprint offer the same for their smartphones?

3. Going back to 1st question, is there a possibility that pre-ordering phone on Radio Shack or Best Buy, you can get phone a few days before? Like 1-3 days before?

1. I just pre-ordered from RS today. I think its an instant rebate so I don't have to wait for a mail in. I don't know about what BB offers.
2. Sprint has a $7 a month insurance plan that covers everything including water damage, & lost/stolen.
3. No idea as to this one, so far what I've read about that is no probably not

As far as where to pre-order I would say that is just a matter of preference since they both take out the MIR. The $20 gift card is cool but your right about the price gouging on the accessories. We give you $20 but you still spend $10-$20. I went to BB for my pre-order as it's closer to me and frankly I like them better.

The insurance is through assurion with Sprint as well and it should be a $7 charge per month.

That has been mentioned by Bluescreen that Radio Shack had some kind of deal with Sprint that would allow them to release the phone on the 29th. But I have heard nothing about that from any other source. I would imagine they actually receive the phone a day or 2 before the 4th. I remember someone saying they might call people in early so that the pre-order lines dont get meshed with people trying to buy it the day of release. I know from my experience, and it seems like a few others had the same, that BB sets up an appointment time on the 4th for you to come in and pick up. So with that in mind I dont think we will see it any earlier. Just my thoughts though.

Just check the fox news link that was posted and it was mentioned the "dock that it ships with".
That would be cool, but I won't expect it.

I see, well as someone that has never had to rely on insurance ( have had countless phones replaced under mfg warranty) I figured it would be a cheaper safety net in case something does happen. Might not be the best idea after all.

wait a minute...is every phone covered by mfg warranty for 1 year? does that include pretty much all damage...i pretty much upgrade my phone once a yr, so aren't i better off ditching the insurance and just using the mfg warranty...if so i could have been saving a ton of money...doh!!!!

I read it as saying it will have accessories, not that it ships with them in the box.

Don't forget guys, it's only $199 (for most of us). I feel like if they were charging $249 we could expect some extras perhaps, but I really can't see getting a slew of stuff in addition to the 8GB SD card.

Edit: On the Fox News video the guy definitely says "dock that ships with the device" though, interesting.

Once when my Pre crapped out I called Palm to find out abotu the warrenty through them.
Practically useless. You have to mail the phone to them they inspect it to see if it's an issue of being defective and then they fix or mail you a different phone.
If you want to faster service they'll charge for a phone then reimburse you after they decide it's a differentiable defect.

I'd assume most manufacturers would be similar.

Car Home is the special car dashboard app that automatically launches when you plug the phone into the car dock. Both the Droid and the Nexus One have it if you want to search around for reviews.

Oh, is that what it's called?...LOL...I remember someone mentioning that in another thread (didn't know the name of the app). I'm looking forward to using that app for sure!

When to the sprint store in town today,no info on pre-ordering. They did say they will open early to sell the Evo, might have to camp out unless it rains

Ha, that was probably me. I asked Rob to get the goods on the dock and if the phone had the app in his thread asking what we wanted to know from the event on the 12th. I've got big plans for in car use with this device. The only piece of the puzzle that is missing is whether or not answering a call while the phone is docked will automatically switch it to speakerphone. Having to press "answer" to pick it up and then having to press "menu" and then "speakerphone" just to hear the call would be a usability fail while driving.

The Nexus One dock gets around this by connecting to speakers that are in the dock via bluetooth so you can take calls on speakerphone. I hope the Evo dock has those speakers too. All the shots of the Evo dock I have seen (not many) look exactly like the nexus one dock, so here's hoping!

Manufacturers warranties only cover defects. They dont cover anything that was the users fault. I.E. stolen, lost, damaged phones. I preordered yesterday afternoon and I called tonight to the best-buy to see how far along they were and at 5:30pm est. they said if I came in now I would be #8 on the list. Doesn't seem to be moving as fast as I would have thought.

No matter HOW much I've learned about Android phones in the past couple months, I don't think there's been a day where I haven't learned something new. So glad I'm making the jump to my first all touchscreen AND android phone with the EVO!

I hope the car dock is in the same form factor as you're talking about with the Nexus One dock! That seriously would be SO handy, especially for all those that are in California with the DMV "hands free" law...Expensive ticket.

I have read it in two place the phone had a car dock included. I am looking for the links now. I think Phandroid also said that no?

That box is too big just to contain a phone..

man i soooo hope it actually does contain a car dock....if so i'm all set...that's the main accessory i really care about

So i went to pre-order at BB when i got out of work and it was 54.13 i believe and the rep said it was all going towards the phone but when i got home i called the # on the back and it said there was only $50 on the gift card. I even asked the LP thats awlays at the front of the store watrching the cameras to see if there is tax on gift cards and he said no and that that was weird that it did get charged. Should i got back n get the 4.13 back or trust the BB rep that said it was going towards the phone.

@bobeo... If it isnt too much of a hassle to make the trip I would go back while it is fresh in the salesman or woman's mind. Just mention to them what you were told by another associate and if they still insist that they did it correctly, either ask for a manager or have them make a notation on the receipt with their name.
