Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Can you really expect a 4WD crossover SUV to have the offroad performance capabilities and performance of a 4WD pickup truck?

Of course a smartphone won't be as good as a DEDICATED camera that was built specifically for... being a camera, as opposed to a multi-use device.

Does your camera take phone calls, surf the web, and impress your girlfriend? No. But does it take pictures really really well?

At CTIA everyone at Sprint was touting how you could leave your camera/camcorder at home. A bit of hyperbole on their part, no doubt.

I never expected it to replace my camera, but Sprint seems to want to think it will.

Swype did come preinstalled in the Omnia 2 which was released on Verizon last December.

Also like I said, when you go to the Swype website they did have a beta release for Android phones but they closed it because of the huge number of downloads.

I just downloaded it from post #74 in this thread on the xda site. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have an android phone yet. :) If any one wants it without having to register at xda, shoot me your email address in a PM and I'll be happy to share. I'm curious to see if it's legit.

I personally think the videos from the phone look great... I don't look for a camcorder in my phone however when in a pinch I use it to record my kids or something stupid.. I think for a phone... those are the best looking videos I have seen.. :)

IMO a smartphone just has to be very good at features like phone, video, music and video playback, and simple gaming. I want it to be great at call handling, data access and management, and information management (sort of PDA-like). I just want to be able to leave some of the other gadgets at home unless I need or just want them for the purpose for which they're designed and excel. I don't see getting rid of anything b/c of Evo - just carrying things less often.

I'm sure there will be things I wish this phone could do better, but for such a small package I'll remember I'm getting most of what I want in the palm of my hand.

NO clue where all of the "Swype" stuff is popping up from - nobody ever mentioned it up until a few days ago.

I am relatively sure Swype is NOT included. And the Beta for it is closed, so for the time being there is no way to get it on the device.

Edit: Yes, Swype came on the Omnia, but that was a special thing as part of a Samsung phone. HTC and/or Sprint have never included Swype by default on a device, and I haven't heard anything about that starting now.

Actually, it comes on the HD2. I would definately say it was a valid question, though I am sure you are correct and it will not be included as the program is still in beta.

People seem to lose focus on this. Compare it to other cell phone cameras, not dedicated cameras. Of course its going to lose - just like every other cell phone camera.

Yeah, but I don't think the image sensor in the evo is that bad. The reason that video looks so bad is because it's heavily compressed. Hopefully there will be an update that will allow less compression.

I have a 5 year old 2 megapixel camera, and it does video at 640x480, but its not compressed at all, so it looks very good. Compression can make a big difference in quality. I know I'm comparing a dedicated camera, but its a 5 year old camera. you would think in 5 years the technology would have advanced enough to overcome that.

Where can I go to find a good cover/case for the EVO and where I can find a good screen protector??

Amzer has some decent cases available for pre-order now. As for screen protectors, there are numerous options. Zagg, Phantom Skinz, Clarivue, Ghost Armor...

<<Can you check to see what the AC charger output is? Voltage-probably 5v, amperage-?>>

Didn't get a chance to see that. The connector is micro USB though, really tiny.

Just read no 2.2 releases before July 1st ... anyone know if this is true ? Also anyone know where to get that white carbon fiber lookin case ? Thanks

My guess is the sprint stores will have them on launch. At least I hope so. Im planning on buying my phone then heading over there to check out a case.

This is a .cab file, and android does not support this. Android uses .apk.

Here is swype for you in 4 different flavors including pink for the ladies at ppcgeeks.PPCGeeks - View Single Post - Evo Swype?;)

Edit: SHO_ONE must have beat me by seconds.:)

Thanks for the links guys, Saves me from having to search on the fourth.

I am actually not very impressed.

Here is a video from my Panasonic point and shoot camera that does 720P (be sure to select HD in YouTube).

snip

Check out my other videos and I think you will see that the image sensor on the Evo, like most cell phone cameras, is just not large enough to let enough light in. Plus, I suspect the bitstream is not as great.

Still, it should be leaps and bounds over most other cell phone cameras.

Yeah, it's just OK. Did you notice how slow it adjusts exposure in discrete steps? It's pretty good for a phone, but not up to all the hype.

Please take some time to peruse some of the already existing threads, on this topic.

Thanks for answering my simple question!! I shouldn't have to leave this thread and go through every frickin thread to find an answer to a simple question that took NICK CRUSH two seconds to answer, especially if I been with this thread from the beginning! CHILL OUT BEK!
