Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Hey, got a question. I own a Palm Pre and to close an app., you just flick it away. How do you close apps on the EVO? Pre ordered my EVO at both BB & The Shack. Which it the best to go with? Thanks all.

Missed this question earlier.

I'm a Pre guy too. Forget about closing apps. Android OS just "takes care" of it for you.

Optionally, you can install a 3rd party Task Killer, to manually nuke threads. This has limited uses and there's a few threads within the last 2 days, that discuss this in depth.

Hey thanks, I was just wondering if there was some physical action needed to close. So when you switch to another app., it gets closed? How do you keep multiple apps open?

Apps remain "frozen" or running in the background until Android OS elects to kill it. You hold down the Home key and it'll show the last 6 apps you had open. You can just bounce back and forth that way. It's rather similar to how WinMo dealt with multi-tasking.

Took a bit for me to readjust - I really loved how WebOS handled multitasking with their card concept.

You must have missed the other thread where I made that same reference.

And my gal's right next to me, and just rolling her eyes.

cuz she controls what you get and don't get... :D:D we have the POWER LOL

Got it.....thanks again. i am really excited to get the phone. I use the Nav a lot on the Pre. will really be nice to have the larger screen & still have FREE nav. Also hope 2.2 comes quick. In the Chicago area it will really be nice to have voice command.

Since this is a speculation thread, anyone care to speculate on the future of the "Premium Data Add-On"? In the playbook they justify the charge by referencing the Evo's hardware specs (not sure how these justify the cost) like the 4.3" display, the snapdragon processor & front & rear facing camera's. It also adds that Sprint offers the best 3G/4G network.

I'm assuming that at some point (probably this year) the $10 charge will be included in their current plan pricing & everyone will be paying the additional charge. I don't want to drop $200 on this phone, plus the additional $10/month only to find out that 6 months from now there's a couple more 3/4G phones with smaller screens that don't require the additional monthly charge.

What do you all think?

I think they are going to charge it on any new phone now that comes out with these capabilities... :) or they will drop it period... I am kind of the fence either direction :D

Going to be a monthly $5 charge. No thanks, Qik.

And Fring just announced their support for the evo and doing video chat, and it can do it to Skype users.

Seriously the biggest let down and honestly with Fring looking to be doing a better job I think Qik needs to Qit.... Little play on words there, please don't judge me!:p

It's been a few years since the plans have gone up in price so I expect and across the board increase. $10 sounds about right. Now if everyone pays $10 whether they have an Evo or not, that's huge $. I don't think Sprint will be first to do an increase though. I expect the other carriers to push them through as well. They're all going to say they expect the prices to be reflective of more capacity, new 4G development/deployment, and better phones; and they, too, will come up with their own version of "we're giving you more for free.":(

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/28/shanghais-roewe-350-auto-rolls-off-the-assembly-line-with-andro/ kinda makes me wish they would sell it here!

Hopefully this isn't too off topic, didn't want to create a topic just for this.
I wanted to fill this out to get my discount.
Sprint | Employer Discounts

It says I'll be on a 2 year contract again (I'm currently out of contract). I'm fine with that. When I looked through sprint phones I saw I was eligible for a $150 upgrade. But If I do that, I have to agree to a 1 or 2 year contract. Does that all stack? or am I doing something wrong?

Guess I couldn't add anymore links... did anyone else know about this...

Radio Shack stores getting WiMAX upgrades ahead of Evo launch? -- Engadget

Yea I read that report.

Im actually curious about it, the RS I am picking up my EVO at is directly behind my house....maybe a couple hundred feet away.

I am already in good 4G coverage, Im just wondering how strong the RS's signal will be and if it will almost "web" over the 4G coverage by my house?

Guess I wont know til nex Friday :D

On another note.. anyone wanna watch the HDMI out vid here... Hands-on HDMI out with the Sprint EVO – Android and Me

The screen says corpus christi for location, but your screen name says michigan for location. so which is it? I live in Corpus christi, if you have the phone already you need to hit me up so I can see the damn thing lol.

Sry bout the really late response...I live in Michigan. This is a cropped screen-shot of a part of the review on Android and Me.
