Official Goodbye Dinc Thread

Today I ordered an LG Lucid, looks like I'm the first one on here to do this. The trigger factor was that the battery in my DInc is suddenly dying. Suddenly, it's dropping charge very quickly. Anyway, I'm hoping for a phone with better voice quality which has been my major beef with the DInc. I couldn't resist the price on the LG.

So i purchased my dinc off contract to replace my D2G because my warranty had expired and my D2's screen digitizer had a nice strip from top to bottom that only worked when it felt like it so i decided i would prefer to get a phone by a better manufacturer (HTC) for a little more money than it would cost to get my D2 replaced by insuricare (also a joke). At any rate I plan to have my Dinc for at least another year. Now that i have gone through all of the nightmare that was rooting it and then flashing CM7, it's better than my D2 ever was anyway. The hardware is outdated but it's a great little phone. I just hope that support for us folk with the older phones continues even after everyone else has jumped ship. I do know that when i have an upgrade i plan to move to either another HTC or the next google phone though. I want to be able to either run pure google or at least have something that will be relatively easy to root and HTC seems to be very cooperative with the dev crowd.

----------------------------------

Rooted Droid Incredible (OG) running some variation of cyanogenmod, right now it is 7.1 but yesterday it was 9.0.0 (unofficial kang for DINC), it is coming along well by the way.

I finally bit the bullet last week. My Dinc has been retired to wifi only, and will be setup for my kids to play games on mostly.

I picked up the RAZR MAXX on launch day, and being able to use my phone like it was meant to be used without plugging it in during the day was a huge factor in my decision, and to date, I have yet to need to plug in my phone before I go to bed and I'm a fairly heavy user.

My first droid was a dinc, upgraded from a very old razr circa 2005 :P

Last year my dinc started to spontaneously reboot on me, so I upgraded to the dinc 2, and once I sorted the reboot issue (charging + wifi or gps on = overheat and reboot loop for me) I gave it to my kids to play on as well.

I actually just put the aokp ics rom on today, but it has quite a bit of video lag, so I may just go back to gb and check out cm7.

I'd have to say my most memorable moment was receiving the froyo ota update while I was at vmworld. I literally just had the phone for a week when that update hit.

When it came to listening to music or a video, I'd always choose the dinc over the dinc 2, simply because the audio was so much louder on the dinc. Its a damn good phone, and aside from the battery not holding a charge like it used to, and the overheat and reboot issue, I plan on using it until it breaks for good.

Droid Incredible, you were an incredible first Android device for me, thank you :adore:

My DINC has had a nasty crack in the glass for a while now but has worked just as good as day one in spite of the crack. I ordered a new digitizer and now I do not like it. It seems way too sensitive. So I think I will be using an upgrade. Now I just don't know what to get. RAZR? Nexus? I think I want something with a bigger screen. The DINC has been a great phone but time to move on.

The Inc 4g is rumored for may 10th for $249.99 . It will have a 4in screen.
IMO though its overpriced.

Just received my Galaxy Nexus in the mail today. The screen is super huge and amazing. So far, I love it. Works great and buttery smooth. I will, however, miss my Incredible as a phone. I had a lot of good times and did a lot of things with that beast. I'm going to keep it around as an MP3 player now.

My first smartphone was an AMOLED DROID Incredible, which I ordered just days after release. About a year later I rooted and de-bloated it. Three weeks after that I put CM7 on it, which is still how it's set up.

But I grew tired of it, so back in February I picked up an LG Spectrum off of ebay. I rooted and de-bloated it after about 6 weeks and one day soon I will be putting a custom ROM on it.

Now that I'm used to the bigger HD screen, I have a really hard time dealing with the old DInc. But I keep it around as a media player, a game player for my kids, and as a geocaching device I can let my kids use when they're out with me (I just have to preload the caches so that I don't need a data connection).

It was a great first smartphone with a huge community of developers. Now that I'm on the Spectrum, I really miss that huge community. But there are a few of us that are really helping the noobs get situated on the Spectrum. We're not exactly "pioneers," but it's kind of a rush being a bit more in the forefront.

Overall, I enjoyed the Incredible. I'm enjoying the Spectrum, too, but in a different way because of the smaller community. But since I didn't use my upgrade to get here, I'm waiting for Verizon to get a decent phone running the Qualcomm S4 or S4 Pro chipset. If that takes longer than expected, I'll just keep playing with the Spectrum.

My Dinc is still a great phone and in perfect condition after almost 2 years. One blown speaker was the only problem that I really had with it and that was fixed quickly & easily. This phone has been great. It was still out performing iPhone 4's which really pissed off the fan boys at work to no end!
I switched to the Rezound and have been really happy since getting a 1900 mha battery. I love the battery life of the Razr Maxx but that is one ugly phone lol. I really feel like the Rezond is the next evolution of the Dinc in so many ways. Alas, this has been a great community with a great bunch of people helping each other out. I hope to see you in the Rez forums!

I wasn't going to a pay premium for a D'Inc 4G since I don't care about using my phone for music and got a good deal on a Galaxy Nexus, so my D'Inc has been relegated to archive. Goodbye, old friend.

Today is the day. My RAZR MAXX is on the Fedex truck en route, so I will be retiring the Incredible I've had since release. It's been a great phone, even though I succeeded in smashing the screen within 6 weeks of getting it. Through forum help, I replaced it myself. Then rooted it for the first time 6-8 months ago. It will still be around as a spare.

Thanks, all.

Preordered the GS3 today. Verizon giving a 7/9 ship date. So, i have another month with the dinc. Its been a good run. I got it the frist week of June 2010. Still works great.

I also pre-ordered a Galaxy S III. I still really like my Inc, it runs ICS like a champ and the giant battery I bought means I don't need to keep a charger in my office any more. In fact, if VZW was not making noises about ending grandfathered unlimited data I could see myself holding out with my Inc until Jellybean is released if not longer.

So, it was a blast, still the best phone community out there. I hope the GS3 will have a similar community.

I'm in the same boat here. Pre-ordered the GSIII today, but mainly because I didn't want to loose the unlimited data. The Incredible has been a great phone, and to be honest I too would have probably held out until Jellybean if not for the data issue.

Still, should be a nice upgrade. I was doing a lot of research on the Galaxy S III, and I figure I should be happy with it for a while.

Also preorderd a blue 16gb SIII today. I've been trying to hold out for the DINC4G however with no release date set in stone (even though it could be next week but who knows...), I've given up and with the S3 being $50 more for the rumored DINC4G price, figured to jump on it.

Now to find a use for my DINC after rather than sit in a drawer.

Incredible 4g should be out within 15 days and is expected before the SGIII. I can't imagine a 4.8" phone.

I'd wait for unlimited data announcement before I bought a phone worrying.

I have had the Incredible since it came out 4/29/10 (had that one pre-ordered). I had followed this phone for months on the threads on here (multiple thread closures, wondering if it is the Nexus, Bravo, Passion, or whatever else). I don't know if anybody from those times are still on here, but those were good times. And this has been a great phone.

I rooted it about 6 months after getting it, and I still think my Incredible is better than most phones out there now. But I've been eligible for an upgrade since December, and after passing on the Galaxy Nexus and Razr, I've finally pre-ordered that Galaxy S3, 32 GB in pebble blue. And the customer service rep on the phone sold it to me for free, only charging the $30 upgrade fee. So while I'm very excited about that, I do have a twinge of sadness because she is making me send it back to them.

I've been on here a lot and asked some questions, and learned from other peoples' questions too so thanks for all the help. I'll miss it.

Why send it back? How much they knock off the price?

They are giving me a 32 GB GS3 for free. All I had to pay was the $30 activation fee and then send my Incredible back when the new phone comes in. I can't complain since they're saving me $250

Ah, the Dinc, arguably the first Android smartphone to truly give the iPhone a run for it's money, certainly set a standard by which most "superphones" would be measured.

This was my first smartphone and provided an almost endless supply of "wow" factor. What's more, this device brought so many people together here on the android forums. There's lots of usernames and avatars I fondly remember as I'd scour this board for information.

The ol' Dinc is showing her age, though, and like a few previous posters I'm ready to give Samsung a chance now with the Galaxy S3.

Something kind of funny to consider: Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor was the pinnacle when the Dinc came out and now again Qualcomm is ahead of the game with the S4 Krait :D

I, too, preordered the SGS3 on the 6th. Not much longer for my Incredible. Preordered back in April 2010 when it first came out, rooted a year later, and loved every minute of it!

I got tired of the holdups on the Incredible 4G, especially with apple's latest games. I don't like motoblur, or touchwiz so I did the only logical thing. I'm now the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy Nexus! I love the amoled screen just like my Incredible had and I love pure android. :D I'm not even sure I would take sense over this in the future.

The S3 was mildly tempting but I couldn't justify waiting for it for the slightly more powerful cores. That and I called around and found the Nexus on special for $50 and with my upgrade it was free! Can't beat that. :)

I loved my Incredible and will probably be giving it to a friend once I don't have any issues with the Nexus for a week or two.

I was waiting on incredible 4g when I went to get thunderbolt for my wife. Found out i could get nexus for free for me and $20 for wife. So my kids are enjoying the incredibleS without call or text. I'll be around here til the lights go out but I now have the nexus. Like it a lot.
