I'm trying to think back to the release of the Moto Droid, but I can't remember exactly. Didn't VZW start advertising (on TV) about a month before the actual release? Can anyone comment on this? I have seen all of the rumors about the Incredible release, but I just cannot believe VZW would not advertise the same way they did for the Droid if the Incredible is indeed going to be a game changer. Someone please help me out here.

IIIITTTTTTTT'SSSSSSSS NNNNNNOOOOOOTTTTTTT AAAA GAAAAAAMMMMEEEE CCCCHHHHAAAANNNNGGGEEERRRRRR!!! it's a droid with no keyboard and a sleeker form factor! damn!! this is no jesus phone, just a revision of current hardware with an incremental performance bump.

this phone with a 4.3" screen a la hd2 would be a much greater leap.. but sprint AND tmobile beat us all. this is just a nice phone.

I did, about 30 pages back, and then again about 5 pages back. No one wants to listen because it means delay for the Incredible.

Not really, if the first half of the Droid updates go out without a hitch, they might announce the Inc. for sale. If big problems arise, then I'll start to be worried about the Inc. release.

I've seen nothing from Verizon that would lead me to believe this will be a game changer. I think to them it's just going to be another Android phone. I wouldn't expect anything big surrounding it. Sure, to us, it's a game changer. I'm just not so sure they're going to hype it up like some expect.

They started the vague Droid Does commecials early, but the actual moto Droid was not announced until about a week before release.

Yes, that sounds about right. I guess my point is that we will at least see some kind of commercial prior to the announcement. This just seems to be the way VZW operates when presenting an important new phone. All of the rumors may be true, but I'm not listening to any of them until I see that commercial. C'mon VZW, hurry up.

I really don't see what the 2.1 update for the Droid has to do with the release of the Incredible? I mean obviously 2.1 works fine. There are already phones with it and Google released it. The Droid and the Incredible are totally different. For one the Droid is getting an update to 2.1, the Incredible comes with it. I really don't see any connection.

Well, it wouldn't be creating this much buzz if it was just your run of the mill phone, that's for sure.

I don't think that's necessarily true. The moto droid was their entrance into the android party. The incredible is just their next phone in the series. I also think that Motorola put a lot of money behind the big Moto ad campaign.

Edit: I was following the Omnia II release, and the followers thought it was a big deal, but the release was uneventful to say the least.

Yeah, I think you're probably right.

Well the boyfriend and I didn't really get much of a choice in where we live, we got the short end of the stick with college housing but also he was forced to switch since he's on his dad's plan and sprint was much cheaper.

It seems odd that the Incredible would be the Nexus One because then the leaked photos would all be fake. :/
Not necessarily. They could mean that the Incredible would be renamed the CDMA version of the Nexus One at launch... I doubt it though.

I followed the release of the Storm2. Same exact scenario.

Not sure if this means anything, or if its the same in every area..

But the Droid and Eris are being advertised on Verizon's home page again, after having been removed previously... Thoughts??

-They are not featured on the testman site, interestingly enough...

One of the reasons that VZW ran adverts so long before that release and they spent so much money, was that before then, they didn't have any Android phones, so that was their "big thing" at the end of last year and going right into the holiday shopping season.
There is a much greater awareness now among the general public of Android, so I'm not sure we'll see a spending spree like that from Big Red untill perhaps they get ready to launch a 4G handset.

Android Central did an article about how long the droid 2.1 would take, about 20 days

"If they've sold even only 2 million Droids to Verizon in the last five months. Do the math. 2 million divided by 200,000/day = 10 days, 4 million = 20 days"

maybe verizon is waiting for 2.1 to be on most (if not all) of the droids before the incredible launch?

maybe someone has already pointed this out..

I find it really funny that just as I was reading this, a message popped up saying that there is a system update for my phone, a 15mb file to get 2.1 on my phone...

Unfortunately it didn't work, probably because I rooted my droid and put a different ROM on there...

Ding, ding, ding. The Incredible isn't going to be a game changer. Its hardware is basically comparable to the Nexus One, a phone currently or soon to be available on at least four different carriers (not to mention the Desire, if a U.S. carrier picks it up). The Incredible does have a couple nice upgrades, but none that will resonate with the general buying populous (optical trackpad? onboard storage? sorry, not sexy items). Its going to be a great device, but I think its going to get lost in a sea of essentially equivalent phones.

Honestly, I suspect the Droid will outsell the Incredible by at least 2-to-1, just counting from the time after the release of the Incredible.

If they don't change, I don't think "buzz" will be the reason. As enthusiastic (and my enthusiastic I mean maniacal) as everyone in this forum is about this phone, we are the very small minority who are even aware of it. 99% of phone buyers don't hear about something ahead of time, they just see what's the latest and greatest when they go into the store or they see the phone as it's advertised. So those folks will only know what they see after release. And us, well, we're following this thing like bloodhounds, so if there's a name change we're all gonna know about it and we'll debate it to death, and half will piss and moan it should have been left as Incredible, and the other half will say it should have been changed to anything but what it was actually changed to.
I disagree with the rationale that we are only 1% when it comes to high end devices. The other 98% are buying free flip phones, not specialty items like the N1. I believe a high percentage of prospective high end android smart phone buyers take notice of engadget and other blogs/forums. These are the people that will be getting their credit cards out when the Incredible hits, not the average VZW customer.

There was a sourced report that 2.1 was not playing nicely on the network. Hence the upgrade delay for the Droid, and the non-announcement of the Incredible.

I hear ya, but when you say its hardware is basically comparable to the Nexus One, you're getting your info from rumors, right? None of that has been confirmed by VZW or HTC. It could be better than the N1. We just don't know anything yet.

i'm hoping the desire comes to verizon. I really like that phone.

Not sure if this has been posted but Verizon has been on Twitter talking about the Incredible... Twitter

Based on reports from those that handled test units, we have a pretty good idea what the specs are going to be. We know its going its going to have a 3.7" screen, a 1 Ghz processor, and Android 2.1 ... just like all the Nexus One variants and just like the U.K. Desire.

Could VZW change things up and throw in significant last minute upgrades? I suppose anything is possible, but, no, not really in this instance.
