Rooting, or unlocking, any phone and installing a different boot screen is really not difficult. I currently have a HTC/Futurama boot screen on my HTC Touch running on Verizon :D But I don't see HTC/Verizon/Sprint/whoever bothering with a different boot screen just to throw people off the trail... It would just be extra time and resources spent for very little return. They obviously do a good job keeping new product hidden already, just look at the energy our Magnum PI's went through the past few days to find info ;)

Thanks for the info. My only point is, that Boot Screen is what is linking this phone to Verizon, nothing else at this point (Meaning Visually, inventory entry excluded). In the reflection, you can clearly see the person holding the phone has a "Sprint" tag on, it is just weird to me.

I just wish we had more confirmation then that.

Although I agree with you that this would be a complete waste of time I wouldn't put it past the guy that leaked the initial video. That guy didn't seem too impressive in his leak. It could be a way of someone from Sprint getting people going about this phone and really excited. Then it could come out for Sprint and they could perhaps persuade a few new customers based on the hype. The theory is far-fetched, but in such a competitive market it could be plausible.

But to me there seemed to be some confusion over that guy being there in the first place, people asking him what he was doing (his responce being "I'm making money....going to upload this to the website" or something like that). That may be because he was a Sprint guy in the Verizon area. At least it seemed like what he was doing had very little to do with his actual job.
Also there have been two blog leaks saying the Incredible was coming to Verizon. With one being Engadget I'd say thats pretty good confirmation. It was the Incredible in the pocketnow video.

Would you be impressed knowing that your competitor is getting a new phone along the lines of the incredible? He didn't seem too brilliant so for him to go as far as rooting the phone to add a different boot screen is not likely. Not saying you have to be brilliant to do so but if you had enough time to root the phone, you would think he would have taken the time to take a better video of the phone. If he did actually change the boot screen knowing that it was a sprint phone, he probably would have been more impressed with the phone as he would know the truth. Maybe his lack of enthusiasm was because of his fear of losing commission to this phone?

The original video had the Incredible in what seemed like some sort of work environment. Its not like he made the video from his house it seemed. Also doesn't Verizon have a big presence in the town next to the one shown on the weather widget?

I am on the other side of the fence on this one, I would rather have the smaller screen making the phone more pocketable. now don't get me wrong, If they had a 4.3 inch screen on a phone with a form factor roughly the same size as say the iphone I would be all over that.
and just to explain my last statement, I, in no way, want an iphone. my wife just has one and I really don't want anything that is much bigger than that (form factor wise).
of course it would also need to get pretty much the same battery life as well, which would be hard with that big of a screen.

This article was the first bit of news that linked the Incredible to Verizon. This was what started all the talk about limited RAM and a possible underclocked Snapdragon (850 MHz). I really don't see any chance that the Incredible would end up on a carrier other than VZW. Too much points to it being on VZW.

Does anyone have any Best Buy contacts? Seeing as how (I believe) Best Buy sells the phones at least as early as the Verizon brick and mortar stores, maybe it's in their inventory/training/promotional materials?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the SAR levels are very similar to that of the existing N1 too.
 
Assuming that the HTC tester did not post those pictures/video intentionally, does anyone think that we just blew an opportunity to get further updates from this source within the next month by blowing up her youtube page...etc.

I wonder if in the future, we can just have a few individuals save all the material and post it for us so as to not alert anyone and compromise a valuable source.

Well, a little of both. The tester who posted the original video contacted me and asked me to remove it due to risking her job. I did not want to be responsible for ruining someone's career, so I removed it. I didn't have to, but I did for her sake. Most everyone who would be interested in the video has seen it anyway.

Btw, she gave a little hint however in her email to me that confidentiality agreements between HTC and VZW were in jeopardy because of this video. :eek:

Great information, do you happen to have the quote of the hint from e-mail?

This just adds more backing to those that have been saying this was the Incredible on film and not the Supersonic.

This was an old question that was quoted today but in case it isn't clear yet, I'll give it a go.

Things linking the phone we saw in the video to the model name "Incredible"
1. It has a distinct orange/red back just like the phone in this pic which clearly has the name "HTC Incredible" written on it as if it were a production model.
2. There have been a few somewhat credible web sources that talk about having seen a phone with a red/orange back and that it was called Incredible
3. A flickr photo of a mirror that was taken by "ADR6300" (Incredible) shows a orange/red'ish phone with the same form as the phone in the video

Things linking the "Incredible" to Verizon
1. Engadget I think was the first to pass along a tip they received that the Incredible was a new HTC phone that was earmarked for big red
2. The source from point 2 above says he saw this phone at a Verizon meeting
3. The inventory screen shots are verizon
4. The model number 6300 is a verizon style model number (Eris was 6200)
5. The boot screen

This is about as convincing as it gets in rumorville
