Love that site! A friend of mine who has a Droid recommended it to me. I've currently got 81 apps on my list of things I want to try out :o

xfuchsiax's Apps to Try

I don't think it mentions it anywhere obvious on the site, but they hide apps and/or developers who get really crappy ratings in the search results. You can still click on them if you want, but their appearance is minimized.

yeah I saw your post on the other thread- starting a list of my own:)

That's one of the first apps I plan on getting. I just wish they would add picture messages to GV so that I could drop Verizon's texting plan altogether.

Theoretically..... Could you call-forward everything to GV and then use the Android app?? Thereby eliminating the need for voice minutes?? Can texting be forwarded with GV? Probably not, but just thought I'd throw that out there...

-GV newb (very interested though :) )

Hah, same here. Had a coworker send me an invite.

Haven't looked yet but if we don't have one we should start a new thread on it somewhere and see if we can lure someone knowledgeable about GV into it to help all us out.

My Incredible story for the weekend goes something like....

So, I walked into the VZW Corporate store in my area (across the parking lot from the Best Buy store to follow) and the dialog goes something like:

Them: Hello may we help you today?
Me: I'd like to speak to someone about ordering an upcoming phone.
Them: Which one?
Me: The HTC Incredible
Them: We don't know when that will be available.
Me: So you haven't heard anything about it being out at the end of the month?
Them: No. There will be some announcements coming this week.
Me: OK, so you don't know if that will be about the Incredible or the Microsoft phones or what?
Them: No.
Me: OK, thanks. I'll check back next week.

Then I stroll across the lot to Best Buy and go sit down in the comfy chair in front of the Mobile Phones desk. Am greeted by a couple of nerdy looking guys who probably actually know something. I begin to ask them about ordering the Incredible. I get the same story. "We don't know when Verizon is going to release that to us." I asked about pre-ordering it. He said that whenever it is announced I can pre-order it for $50 down and I can come in and get one the day they get them. We chit chatted about their warrantee/insurance plan which he said for that phone will likely be around $9 something per month. No deductible and no refurbished replacements. It does sound interesting so I got them to give me the fine print to take home and read. Then I did have the presence of mind to ask a VERY IMPORTANT question (to me anyway). I asked if he knew what the 1 year contract pricing would be. I plan on going with a 1 year because I KNOW that by next summer I will be jonesing for an LTE Incredible 2 or whatever it will be by then. He said Verizon only allows them to do 2 year plans. So, I'm back to ordering online whenever they are available.

So... anyone else considering 1 year vs 2, it looks like Best Buy isn't an option.

That's my day. Now to go back and read the previous 10 pages or so to get caught up.

I was thinking the same thing the last few days. I know 10 months from now, I'm gonna want the newest, hottest phone, instead of waiting 22 months. It'll (IMO) be worth the $30 - $50 extra for the phone to go with the one year contract instead of 2. Using the Droid as an example, it's $559 without a contract, $299 with a 2 year contract ($199 after rebate), and $329 with a 1 year contract ($229 after rebate).

Most phone's on Verizon Wireless are a $30 difference between the 1 year and 2 year contract. A couple are $50, and the blackberries are the only ones I noticed that were $70 more. Droid Eris is a $50 difference, while all other HTC phone's are a $30 difference. So if I was a betting man (which I no longer am after my week in Atlantic City over spring break ;)), I'd bet that the Incredible will cost $599.99 retail, $329.99 before $100 rebate on the 2 year contract, $229.99 after rebate on 2 year contract, and I think for a 1 year contract, it will cost $279.99 after the rebate. Just take it for what it's worth :p

anyone else surprised we didn't get any info on what all the VZW employees were getting trained on tonight at the stores?

Cmon... somebody has to know!

This is my best guess as to what is going on in the world of VZW and the HTC Incredible.
:p
So we get this leaked email on Friday:

It's time to share.
Let's get social.
It's new, it's unique, living exclusively on America's Largest & Most Reliable 3g Network.

Sounds like a presentation to me. Powerpoint, as it were, a la Steve Jobs.

Or the HTC People here, presenting HTC Sense UI:

YouTube - HTC Sense

(Watch this video, even if you don't want to, lol. Excellent tutorial on the wonder's of Sense.)

So in this presentation, HTC says:

Make it Mine.
Stay Close.
Discover the Unexpected.

That presentation speak sounds a lot like this to me:

I believe we are in for a Steve Jobs-esque technology presentation on Monday from Verizon Wireless. I believe they will introduce 6 new devices and these will be their talking points.

Some may say, "They don't want to introduce 6 new devices at once, they want to stretch them out for maximum impact."

Well heck, what has more impact than the introduction of 6 state of the art devices? And we know VZW has another 3 or 4 waiting in the wings to be debuted when the drama from this announcement has run its course.

Some may say, this presentation would have had to be announced already.

No way, many large corporate announcements occur with less than 3 hours notice to media.

I think VZW will introduce 6 new devices, including the Incredible, and say something like, "join us over the next few weeks as we roll out these new technologies to our VZW family...".

I think Monday we will have ALL OUR ANSWERS.

WOOO HOOO!!

(Please don't hate, this is just my best guess);)

Hello all! Thought i'd like to share an interesting discovery I made at work today. There has recently been a leaked screenshot of Best Buys inventory system of a smartphone coming to Verizon showing a sku and an in stock date of 4/25. It didn't have a specific description of the phone but it gave a model of "BBY21LD". Some thought it was a BlackBerry smartphone. I thought id do some experimenting with the sku to try to find out more. BB has a sign system where skus are entered and a price tag for the item that the sku is tied to is created. It also gives additional info on the item before it is printed. Well, i put in the sku from the leaked screenshot into the sign system and something interesting popped up.

After the sku is entered into the sign system, it takes you to the screen as shown where it gives additional detail. These boxes are autofilled after the sku is entered and cannot be edited. Notice under description, "HTC" shows up in front of "BBY21LD". This makes me strongly believe that this is indeed our beloved Incredible, and that we will definitely see a release at the end of the month.:D

I'm seriously doubting the whole release on the 19th thing. Usually VZW has at least a week between their announcement and availability dates, and I'd be mighty surprised if Incredible was announced Monday, sharing the spotlight which will inevitably be shining on MS's kiddie phones. The Droid went live on a Friday, a couple of their other phones have gone live on Thursdays; my money is on the 29th.

Actually Verizon is big on the short offical announcement to release time.

HTC Ozone announce June 25, available June 29:
HTC - Press Release - HTC Ozone Brings Verizon Wireless Smartphone Lineup To New Heights

Moto DROID announce Oct. 27, available Nov. 6:
Hello Humans: Droid By Motorola Arrives Next Week

Droid Eris announce Nov. 5, available Nov. 6:
Bring An Android Device Home For The Holidays With DROID ERIS By HTC, Exclusively From Verizon Wireless

I know that the Moto DROID was released more than a week after announcement, I just added it to be complete. I'm just pointing out that we shouldn't rule out a release on the 19th yet. Verizon is big on not announcing till the last minute.

Good detective work! Thanks, and if that's right, that means so far i'm 1 out of 1 on my 3 price guesses you can see in the last post of the previous page :D

Another quick observation is that both Android phones were released on a Friday, and the other was released on a monday. So, and it may not mean anything, but I'm going to say it'll release on Verizon before the 29th (if that is indeed the release date at Best Buy), and my official Verizon release date guess is April 23, 2010 with 6 day exclusivity to Verizon Wireless before Best Buy is allowed to sell it.

This is true, but the devour became available on V on a Thursday. I don't think day of the week is a huge thing, since Verizon has had many different release "days of the week" in the past.

I forgot about the Devour. Well, that didn't officially launch with Verizon originally anyways. So I'm not including that :o . Plus, I don't wanna jump on the April 25th and April 29th bandwagon, I'll be a little bit independant and more optimistic that that

great work!!!!!!!!

Don't be surprised to not hear anything about HTC. VZW might only talk about MS news on Monday. It's also rare for any provider to bring out 6 new devices spanning across so many manufacturers.

As for the HTC inc, the 26th sounds more likely. We will mostly hear of the phones coming into the regional warehouse next week.

Let's hope so.

I was thinking that because it says "living on America's most reliable 3g" that it infered it to be the Microsoft Turtle (turtle=living for the slow ones =])
