**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

I am new to the forum and I got my Maxx the other day thinking that I would have the ICS on it already only to find out its still a waiting game. i was wondering if anyone could take me through a step by step process of how to root and install ICS on my Maxx because if I have the choice I would rathe have it sooner then later.

Getting impatient... the best phones always get the update last... they always update "galaxy" phones first... sigh

Well Galaxy phones (excluding those connected to CDMA networks) have less of a middle man (no bloat, no custom skin over android). So their updates come from Google and not a specific carrier.

I have a Droid Razr (XT910) from Rogers, Canada. I am planning to unlock this phone (gsm unlock) through cellunlocker.net website. My question is, after I unlock it, how will I get the ICS update ? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to update from Rogers. Will I get the update by Motorola ?

Thank you!

Unlocking has nothing to do with updates. your phone stays the same, with Roger's software, the only thing you do in unlocking the phone is allow it to work with another service provider's SIM..
It is still a Roger's phone and you'll get ICS when Moto pushes it to the Roger's XT910s..

Considering the new leak is roughly the same size as what's listed in the screenshot of upcoming updates, combined with the fact that you have to be on the latest OTA that just came out a few days ago in order to install it, makes it look like this latest batch of information is the most legit yet. Still no reason to count any chickens before they hatch though.

If this is true, would this update come OTA as an official release from Motorola or would it still be unofficial and I would have to download it manually? If the latter, would I need to have a rooted phone to install it.

There's no way to know until Motorola actually pushes out an OTA ICS update. As of right now, this is an unofficial leak that will have to be downloaded and installed manually if you want it. Root access on your phone is required for that.

Verizon Android 4.0 push-dates leaked for Razr, Rezound?

The Galaxy Nexus was a special case... as a Nexus phone it should get it's updates direct from Google. Unless something has changed, I was under the impression that many of the remaining Samsung Galaxy phones still had Touchwiz loaded on them. If so then their updates will be coming from Samsung and their wireless provider.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any possibility of Rogers locking my phone again after the ICS update ? And I will be using the phone in India with an Indian SIM after unlocking, I'll get the update right ?
Sorry for the noob questions, but I have to be sure before I pay money for it ;)

Once you unlock your phone it stays unlocked. and yes, you can use almost every GSM SIM in it.. You will get the ICS update when Rogers updates their Razrs, regardless of what SIM you have in the phone (you may want to do the update via WiFi)...

I've been hearing reports that ICS is/has been buggy; they keep delaying the release; blah, blah, blah.... I'm actually nervous about them releasing it too soon, because of the impatient, frenzied anticipation of the masses... This happened with GB and they had to keep sending out patches. So, will we get ICS and be completely WOWED by this new OS? Or will it be a ho hum change and we'll be clamoring for the next OS within a week? Maybe I'm a tiny bit jaded because coming to Maxx from the HTC Incredible was a huge change for me. It could have been ICS for all I knew, the change for me was significant. So, will ICS match the hype??

It is a major upgrade over GB and most people will be wowed if they haven't already used ICS on another device. I'm just curious to see how it turns out on the Maxx. Of course there are bound to be at least a few bugs, hopefully minor.

From April 10th:

Is anybody pushing ICS any faster?

And if the email the droid-life posted from MFN is legitimate, the soak test for ICS is forth coming.

And never buy anything on the promise of future improvements. If it meets your needs now, great. If not take your business elsewhere.

Not relevant. Verizon marketed something falsely. That's wrong in any industry for any product. They stink. Period.

And as for the latest round of rumors, yours from almost a month ago or the ones today . . . . . yawn.
