My experience is it does not improve battery life. I have lost about 3 hours a day worth of battery running ICS compared to GB.

I figure it will hit right about the time jelly beans hits the genx, just in time to be obsolete. soooo done with moto after this one. might even be done with big red, too. too many holdups, not enough action.
I guess there are other carriers that would love to take my 5 lines with full data and make money off me.

In all fairness, if you are running a leak, it isn't a finished product and therefore should not be used as a reference.

So any updates? Android Central is showing that Droid RAZR Maxx should be pushing out in Q2. I have read other places saying Q3. Anyone have any inside knowledge?

Funny how the chart says q2, uhh, hello, moto.... we're deep into the second quarter of the calendar year and you're still showing "under development", but claiming rollout this quarter? More empty promises from Moto.... It would probably go a lot faster if they didn't feel such a strong need to add blur and then have big red add their stuff which ends up having to be adjusted over and over because it won't play nice with everything else. just roll out a vanilla android for the masses and make the bloat available to those who actually want it. Or are they afraid their bloat won't float?

It's not Moto adding their skin on top of the software that slows things down, it's Verizon adding their bloat and then putting the device through extensive Q & A. Frankly, I'm OK with that. I'd much rather have a product that's been put through the ringer than a hurried one. ICS is awesome. I've been playing with my rooted Evo 3D and the ICS ROMs are really nice, but since my RAZR isn't rooted, I want Moto/Verizon to put out a quality product.

Bottom line, don't buy a device in hopes that you'll receive updates based on promises. If you REALLY "NEED" updates, buy an unlocked Google device.

well stated, it would be nice if we could get the updates when other devices get them as well. my stepdaughter just got a new phone a few weeks ago and it still runs on eclair. how is that supposed to work? With all the devices on different ROMs, it makes development for the community much more difficult and time consuming. As i stated before, it would be nice to have the option of taking a true vanilla android and add what you want instead of it being packaged the way the carrier wants and locked down.

Something tells me this will be pushed back to the 3rd quarter. I don't really mind GB, but I'd like to remove some of the bloat, but I figure VZW will make it to where we can't. It's eating the battery life always running in the background. I even have it on the auto-stop list but low and behold, it still runs.

I don't think the Verizon bloat is draining your battery. I use System Panel X and constantly run the monitoring system, Verizon's apps are never above .05% used. I know every phone is different, and I do have alot of apps installed, but even when I ran just a few necessary apps they never went above those numbers. I've used other monitoring apps to confirm this. System Panel is my favorite though.

That seems to be a trend they are following lately. The droidx got GB .621 and it was locked down to the point you couldn't revert back to another ROM and couldn't root it, either. There was a lot of work involved in getting that mess straightened out. I feel it's just big red wanting to control every one of its customers and force them to put up with their little agreement with the NFL and a few other corporations to keep their bloatware on our phones.

That's not true at all. Verizon wants their phones locked down to keep people from doing something stupid like bricking it, then claiming it was stolen on insurance and causing them to lose money. I know it's not ideal, but it's the measures they go to.

Personally, I think if you've paid full price and don't have carrier insurance, then you should be able to do whatever you want. But if you pay subsidy, then you're under contract and Verizon can impose whatever they want.

Anyway, that's just my opinion and that's just the way things work.

pretty much right on, although they're concerned about bricked phones being returned under warranty, not insurance. Verizon doesn't provide they insurance, Asurion does. it doesn't really cost Verizon anything if you file an insurance claim.

They're also concerned about people using root to bypass the pay wall on certain features (like tethering) in ways that are clearly illegal (ie hacking the Verizon hotspot app). In short they have some legitimate concerns among the crap.

Personally i think they should provide an root code (or something similar) on request with the condition that you loss warranty protection on any software issues.
