Official Jelly Bean Upgrade

Hey chickenmonkee, May I ask after you flashed the fi22nocwm with Odin...Did you still have root and it let you do the ota? Reason I ask is I have read that the ota will not download if your rooted? If you would let me know I would appreciate it.. thanks

No. I did the X2 wipe and I went totally stock, no root, no cwm then updated back to FI24 OTA on phone and used Kies to update to JB GC01. After that I rerooted with the method in all things root section and used mobile Odin and flashed the sxtp agat GC01 kernel with CWM. Also for reference I use Titanium Backup Pro and a program called System Cleaner, this program will overwrite any old system apps with the new versions to save you some space on your phone.

Well that was taking the long (wandering through the woods) way to do it. You could just install GC01 directly (available in rooted and non rooted).

I was having a lot of gapp fc's and shutdowns so I did all that for the satisfaction of thinking I rid myself of the problem. Didn't work, get one every now and then since installing sxtp agat kernel. No shutdowns though.

There are lots of ROMs that work for our phone. Don't go thinking you have to stay on a Boost labeled ROM. Sprint labeled ones will work just fine. So that opens the door for a lot of them you can use. Check out the "One Stop Shop" in the All Things Root section. Our phone is the same thing as the Epic 4g Touch so we can use any ROM for that phone.

You use the kernel that goes with the ROM. You do not stay on the GC01 kernel. Having the recovery kernel is so that you can do nandroid backups of the ROM that you are on or flash in other things like another ROM. Each will have its own kernel.

Yeah, just wondering if any are GC01 yet. Been trying to use JellyBam, badazz ROM but the WiFi doesn't work. Running CM 10.1 right now. Tried it with GC01 modem but no dice... No 3g or WiFi, had to go back to FI22. Know where I could get the FL24 modem? Couldn't find it in RWilco12's site.

It was there the last time I looked. Don't limit yourself to looking in only Boost Stuff. Sprint has that modem too. Only TW Jelly Bean ROMs will use kernels like GB27 or GC01. AOSP ROMs have their Own kernels and use ICS modems. You may want to bookmark this site. It is a very useful site. Remember If running the AOSP ROMs most have the Sprint MMS settings so you would need to change that to the Boost ones (easy to do).

Galaxy S II (Epic 4G Touch)

I couldn't get gc01 to work with cm 10.1, guess I should check to see if it's tw, wasn't paying attention. Not sure if JellyBam is tw or aosp. I didn't have that link thanks. FI24 modem I can't find using FI22 right now. JB stock was killing my battery crazy fast, cm 10.1 lasts me awhile. Average use lasted me all day yesterday and it runs pretty much like stock but better with the last update. Everything works, it's great!!! Just Like all the features of JellyBam, if they could fix the WiFi.

i did factory reset .... its running better now.

i want to root.....will the same odin work for jelly bean (posted in root guide in this forum)? i believe it was released when ice cream sandwich was in use.

thank u

for some reason, i can no longer take screen shot by holding the power and volume down like before...anyone know how to take screen shot in 4.1?

can someone please direct me to the the link with overclocking instruction. I tried to find in the forums but i could not.

thanks in advance :)

Although I can't imagine needing to OC the phone, you just need to flash a kernel that is compatible with your ROM that supports it and use an app like voltage control to do the adjustments. Alternatively, you can purchase Teqrak overclock whish will allow you to over clock on the stock kernel.

i was able to find a kernel for galaxy s2, but that is not specific for boostmobile version. do you think it will work? can i flash and try? I can made nandroid back up. if i flash this over clock kernel and it screws things up, will i be able to backup my phone previous state using nandroid backup?

Thanks in advance :)

The kernel just has to be compatible with the ROM and phone you are using. It doesn't matter if the kernel was developed on the Sprint variant ROM. (example: I could use the the FI27 kernel on the Boost FH29 ROM). If you have recovery now make a backup, and keep a copy of the kernel you made the backup with. To make it easy, tell us what ROM you are on.
