Root "Official" MR2 OTA root?

Just to be sure before I start my rooting adventure, there's no direct manual root to the official MR2 OTA? I have to "downgrade" to MR1 when I manual root and then flash a ROM/ Radio combo while declining Verizon's attempts to get MR2 back on my TB?

I've found Deodexed MR2 files on XDA the I was planning on starting with untill I settled on a custom ROM, but I didn't know if you could go directly to these.

BTW: Pardon if I'm retreading previously covered territory. I tried searching here and XDA and either wasn't asking the right questions or I'm too much of a noob. Thanks for your(s) helps!

if im understanding your question correctly,there is no "official" mr2 root guide. when it is updated,the only difference will be the upgrade RUU. the downgrade and exploits files will remain the same,so dont be afraid of the fact that its "updated to mr1"

you basically have 2 options:
1)follow the guide as-is,using the mr1 upgrade provided. as you noted,this will require you to flsh either a custom rom,or the rooted OTA rom immediately after in recovery,and the matching radios in hboot.

2)you can use our custom mr2 upgrade instead of the xda guides mr1 upgrade. in other words,do not use Custom upgrade PG05IMG_MR1_upgrade.zip (md5sum : 7960c7977c25b2c8759605be264843ea). use the file from here instead: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/389462-custom-mr2-upgrade-ruu-new-rooters.html

this file will put you on rooted mr2,so youll have the correct radios for most custom roms,and on the mr2 1.70.605.0 firmware so you are not pestered for updates.

method 2 is easier and quicker,and requires less hboot flashing since youll allready have newer radios. but,it is less tested. it did work fine on my phone and i would not post it unless i thot it to be 100% safe.

First try failed, but I put that down to operator error. Trying again tonight!
