Official - My Droid Razr is here!!! thread

Hey guys, just wanted to drop in and say congrats for getting your babies delivered after a not-so-painful labor.

Droidette, we'll miss you in the SGN forums, but we're happy that you're happy!

Played with a friend's razr last night, and I can't get over how thin and fast it is. You guys got a great one!

CK, don't cut yourself shaving your legs with it!

:)

Hello everyone I'm mobile but made a general post labeled Android OS % check it out and respond if you'd be so kind.

Thanks in advance.

Hans thanks for the words. Hopefully your wait will be over soon....

picked mine up last night....

Bought out of my Bell contract here in Canada...finally I am done with Bell..worst customer service and hidden fineprint in Canada, never again.

Switched to Rogers as my wife wanted an Ipone 4s and Bell pissed her off (as usual)...so I would make the switch to get on a family plan. "just get an Iphone" she says...NO WAY! I won't follow that herd, now which phone? sg2,htc raider, htc 3d or razr....vowed I would never support samsung again...nice phones but my android experiences have been with 2 samsung devices and they are never interested in upgrading os, they want you to by their new phones, so it was htc or razr...Raider is HUGE and heavy, that was enough for me,. 3d is not something I felt attracted to so the razr was the one.

I have always liked the build quality of motorola...they just feel nice to the touch (just like iphone, don't tell my wife I said that) So far interface is more than usable, nice screen, all the android 2.3 goodies I got used to on my last phone plus a few nice additions....stock music player kills my old samsung, motocast is cool...still discovering new things every minute.

Just a beautiful chunk of hardware....and for $99 at best buy(3 year term)...and I got a free $50 gift card and a little android figure.....$100 out the door and $50 to spend on x-mas stuff...I AM HAPPY!

I have been whining about loosing NE1 for the last 9 months while I waited for a phone to replace my OG. Three years? Hardcore!

Lovin the new RAZR but I just can't see anything lasting 2 years less 3 years for me LOL

only 2 years before the phone can be switched out for an upgrade without penalty...and I think this thing should still be decent for a couple years....my og galaxy (original) running 1.5 still works fine...although slow and ignored by samsung for updates....manually ramped up to froyo and gb but not enough memory...RAZR should be good to go for a while...I hope

been playing with my Razr for a day now....It's a sexy little phone....thin, fast, and feels great in my hand. no complaints so far.

ok -
well in your 1 day with the Razr, have you lost your data connection at all, for no apparent reason? ;)

I have had my Razor for 2 days and have had tons of loading and data connectivity issues. Enough that I plan on taking mine back on Monday for a Rezound. I am so bummed, I wanted to love this phone. I came from the original DInc and in two years never had data issues, so frustrated
:(

Updates on a few things:

screen resolution I'm very happy with it. The *slight* "pixellation" is actually due to the plasticy screen protector and not the screen itself

battery life holy moly she do suck the power! I have to plug in every night. Was used to it with my OG so no big deal. I think it's due to both the 4G LTE radio and also the fact that I have a live wallpaper.

camera light years ahead of my OG but not nearly as good as my Canon EOS camera (no kidding)

I'm still very happy. Is it the game changer that my OG was coming from my *ahem* flip phone? Nope. But this is one sweet piece of hardware and I'm glad I didn't wait for the Gnex :)

Well I got my RAZR tonight and I am really loving it so far. However, how do I get my FB to sync profile pictures with the contact pics in my phone? Some seem to have been synced but others are not showing up. I synced my Facebook a good while ago (few hours maybe).

I have my eye one this phone. I was thinking about the Bionic, when that came out, I was thinking if only this had an AMOLED screen, and then the RAZR comes out. I don't like the fact that the battery isn't removable. That's the decision I'm stuck on, having a removable battery, or an AMOLED screen.

How are the temperatures on this phone, the few Moto Android phones I've played with overheat easily. Anyone experience this with the RAZR? I'm coming from the HTC Incredible (also AMOLED) and I want a phone that I feel is a worthy upgrade. 4G doesn't matter as that's not in my area yet...

Ive turned off 4g and just stay on 3g for the most part. At home/work im on wifi so I get through pretty much the whole day without needing to charge it. Battery life is soo much better than my Droid Eris plus the smart actions do help.

I honestly don't miss the removable battery. The only thing I ever pulled my OG battery for was to reset it, and with the RAZR you hold the power button plus the decrease volume button. This should totally not be a dealbreaker IMHO. The only other reason a removable battery is nice is if you have a spare to swap out, but I am always near a charger and also minimize the energy hog apps so it hasn't been an issue for me.

Temperature is warm! For the first few days I played with the RAZR a LOT and it did feel much warmer than my OG Moto Droid ever did. I wasn't bothersome, and maybe I noticed it more because others had already pointed it out.

Go RAZR, you'll be happy :)

External batteries can be used too.

Haha, your og droid was also 2x thicker ;)

Here are my thoughts on the Razr after almost a week with it. I love it! I upgraded from a Droid 1 with a stock 2.2 image, and the Razr is of course a massive upgrade.

My thoughts as follows.

Camera: I am disappoint. It is better than the D1's camera, but not by much. It still doesn't seem to focus correctly, and the lens has a longer focal length making it harder to take pictures of stuff at arms length. Anyway, the colors are decent, despite the overall soft focus, and it does take pictures quickly, so I am fine with it.

Battery: Not super fantastic. It can go from full to 40% in just the morning commute, which is about 35 minutes for me. The D1 was not great either, so I've got chargers and cables all over the place, but I have to be a little more aware of its battery levels than the D1. I have noticed that the Razr won't charge very quickly sometimes connected to USB on laptops. It does charge quickly with the wall charger and the car charger, full charge in about 2 hours.

Screen: Pentile seems OK! This is my first experience with AMOLED and pentile matrix so I'm noobtastic, but I haven't noticed a lot of the other complaints with the Razr's screen. It seems fine! I have noticed a few instances where certain apps or widgets won't be so crisp, but otherwise text looks great, and the colors seem very nice. No splotches on this screen, either, and it's only heated up on me twice.

Heat: it's hawt. Both times did it heat up while it was on the charger. Playing AB or Wind Up Knight on it doesn't seem to make it warm up. Big downloads on 4G don't do it either. Will keep an eye on it, though.

MotoBlah: Yikes, what a mess. Coming from a stock 2.2 build on my D1, MotoBlur feels very confused. There are also several layers of unfamiliar software that want my login information, so I'm not warming up to a lot of the Moto apps. I miss the simplicity and homogeneity of a skinless Android. I hope Motorola can leave Blur out of ICS (I'm going to guess March '12 for the Razr, but I hope I'm wrong), but I think it's too lucrative.

Overall: Razr is a sexy beast.

Today is my first full day using the phone, and so far, I am extremely impressed. I took the phone off the charger at 10AM and not it is 3:30PM. I have been using it for texting, some downloads, syncing 3 GMail accounts, and just playing with my new toy. In 5 1/2 hours I am sitting at 80%. Social Location, even though I thought I turned that off last night, has been draining the battery some. I don't know how it turned back on, but it did. What a waste of an app.

I need to find this pro iPhone, Apple guy I had a debate with last year....to apologize...LOL!!

Know what I realized? I have a Droid 1....that has a massive extended battery....a Droid X1 that I should get one for...and the RAZR.

If I get an external battery pack....I wont need to buy extended batteries, doors for all my phones. The one for my Droid 1 cost about $70, 2800 mAh.

The battery pack I was looking at cost about $75...and is a whopping 11,000 mAh!! Doing the math.....external battery pack for me from now on...Looking at the cost and mAh's...I would be saving alot of money and not sacrificing form factor of my phones cuz it can be used by all current and future phones. I didnt mind getting the biggest extended battery for me Droid 1, cuz its funtion over form for me.

This is what I'm looking to get, for the RAZR and any future phones with a removable battery:

Amazon.com: New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh External Battery Pack and Charger for iPad2, iPad, iPhone 4S 4 3Gs 3G (AT&T and Verizon), iPod Touch (1G 2G 3G 4G 5G), HTC Android EVO, Blackberry, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Samsung Galaxy S, Droid, Ninten

It didnt occur to me until I looked at the 3 phones I have with me now. One will be retired, but like how I still use my Droid 1, the back up phone will still get used regularly.

Looking at this, it doesnt seem too big too:

And as of today....I feel the battery life is nice on the RAZR. Screen on for almost 3 hours, 11 & 1/2 hours off charger, 20% battery left. Display is the biggest %. Voice calls is next. Android OS is 3rd.

And 4G is a big battery drain, especially if you're in a weak reception area. If in a strong reception area...it might not be so bad.

Off the charger since 11pm last night. Smart Actions shut everything off from 11:55pm to 6:45am. I left the house at 8:50am this morning and used the handset extensively (phone calls, emails, FB, lot of texts, checking Android Forums) all on 4G. It is now 6:29pm and I am sitting at 50%. This phone is getting better battery life from when I first picked it up.

Happy with this phone? Love this phone :)

So far I love my new razr! Best looking phone ever in my opinion! Display is beautiful and I see no issues with it. No lag yet and as I play with it more ill give a better review. Only issue I've had is my SD card doesn't read sometimes. It works sometimes and sometimes the phone says its blank. Ill try formatting it soon.

Can I get Battery details people. I don't think my battery life is for shit. I've read about all the settings to extend battery lifefrom the motorola site. I tryed them all. My screen brightness is usually at 0%. I seems like i can onlt play with the phone for about 2 hours before its about dead. This is not playing high end games. It just surfing on the internet, playing a little angry, checking email. looking at weather. sending a few texts. this type of stuff.

Battery info at 30% shows android OS @ 34% = 21m:55s Display @ 29% = 1h 8m 0s Cell Standby @ 7% = 5h 30m 6s

Phone Idle @ 7% = 4h 22m 19s Android system @ 4% = 2m 7s rild @ 3% = 1m 51s Wi-fi @ 3% = 41m 10s

Everything else is 2% or less only 4 of them show up right now.

If you don't know how to find these reading on your phone goto: Settings > Battery information > Battery Use. Then tap on each line for details.

I was told at the store that i sould be able to use this phone like this for 7 hours or so. I don't seem to be getting anywhere near there. I would be very happy if i could get that.

Can I get people that say they have descent battery life to post these details for me to compare?

Do i have an issue with my phone? I've had it since friday last week. the battery should be conditioned by now.

See which ones are currently running, and stop those processes that are not necessary. I noticed that when I opened an app just to check it out, it would often stay on in the background as a running process (example: GoTo Meeting) even though I exited out.

Pandora and Weather Channel will definitely suck up power if running in the background. Can't say anything about Hot Stripper Girl and probably shouldn't make any comments about sucking power LOL

I've got almost everything set for auto shut down. Generally shows as not much running. I'm thinking i gota dud, battery wise. Happy with everything else though.
