Official Nexus 2 Discussion

How do updates work for the Nexus One? Do HTC do any testing themselves or is it purely up to Google to release it?

Knowing how bad Samsung are at updates, it will be interesting to know if they have any fingers in the update pie at all, as I would assume they have to approve it, otherwise Google could screw it up and leave Samsung phones not working?

That said, I'm in NYC in March, so can give it a while to see how things go and buy one cheaper there.

all on google.......there is no pitstop at HTC, samsung will not have any say.. By the way I am from NYC, how are you going to get it cheaper? This phone will be sold in Best Buy, not Delancy street

But don't Google have HTC engineers on site? I seem to recall that was how it worked, may be wrong.

that may be true... but the fact remains it never has to hit HTC for sense adaptation or to TMO so they can either add bloatware or remove key features like hotspot

LG Optimus 2X: first dual-core smartphone launches with Android, 4-inch display, 1080p video recording -- Engadget

So the first Dual Core Tegra 2 phone is official, on sale and coming to Europe in a few weeks!

This gives us something to think about as people have already said.

Now I am excited again! Has just about everything I want in my next phone. Just curious to see how the battery holds up. Sorry if I missed it but does anyone know what GSM band it runs off of? Will it work with At&t?

So, I've ordered mine. Not entirely convinced that it won't go back during the 14 day cool of period. Of course, I may like it!

You might never know, seems like tones of ex N1 owners really like it *looks at BigMerf*

i would be interested in hearing the opinions of the n1 owners who now have the ns. not that its been out for a few days, what are your thoughts? keeping it? returning it? love it? or ah, it's just good enough to keep. what about it do you like better than the n1?

i look at the ns and the one thing that i really wish the n1 had was the super amoled screen. it is beautiful. also, i don't know if it is because it is a slightly larger screen or it is just more sensitive, but typing on a 4" super amoled screen was easier for me. (had a vibrant for 2 weeks and returned it)

My decision to buy one was based on:

Improved screen brightness, visibility.

Improved touch pad - this is really a bug bear for me on the N1 and seems to get worse with age.

Increased app space. 16GB storage is also more than enough for me as I use a 64GB iPod Touch for films and music. We were given Bose Sound Docks etc for our wedding gift so I don't see us not having iPods for the foreseeable future.

2.3.

I love rocking the latest kit!

Negatives:

Samsung build quality compared to HTC.

Plastic build (not necessarily poor quality but look and feel).

So again, we'll see but at least I will have Christmas holidays to make my mind up to keep the NS or not.

the things i love

screen is responsive and beautiful (amazing)
size
front camera (although not supported yet)
NO 3G ISSUES!
umm Gingerbread

what i dont like

no led
no dedicated camera button

any ns owners noticed anything buggie about it?

every phone seems to have its quirks, but i haven't seen anything that is a common problem among ns owners. of course there's always a defective unit here and there, but nothing that seems like a systemic problem with all ns phones. would be ironic if samsung was the one to make the phone that has the least amount of bugs.

as a former owner of a vibrant, i am highly skeptical of samsung. however, i must admit that i'm not seeing what i expected of a samsung phone. probably because the ns is basically a second generation galaxy s. added a few things like the ffc, fixed all the problems like the gps and bluetooth, and the stock android eliminated all the touchwiz issues. i'm getting tempted...

No problems so far the screen and the weak speaker from the N1 have been fixed. If you don't mind the specs and missing led I would say the phone is just about perfect

My thought exactly. By the start of the 2nd week, there were SOOOO many complaints on the Nexus One that it was sort of ridiculous.

I have been trying to be on top of NS news/gossips/complaints and haven't heard much other than the defective unit here and there but no major outcry from en NS mass, lol.

again, i'm really skeptical of samsung, but, i just haven't seen any reviews of the ns that say that any major function of the phone is buggie. when i say reviews, i don't mean cnet or the "expert" reviews. they always gloss over any major problems with phones. i'm referring to reviews by real users on this forum and a couple other i checked out.

the one thing i really loved from the two weeks i owned the vibrant was the screen. not just how it looked, but it was much more accurate when your touched it and typing was more accurate / easier. i think it was a combination of the slightly larger screen and better touch sensitivity of the super amoled screen.

i don't really pay attention to the notifications on the n1 trackball, i don't even know what the different colors mean. plus, it sounds like there is an app that flashes a few pixels that imitate the notification on the n1 trackball. i also don't keep music on my n1, i've only got an 8gb card, so the lack of sd slot doesn't matter to me. the more i analyze the ns, the more i think i would really like it.

just going to wait another week or two to see if any delayed issues pop up about it. i just don't trust samsung. that being said, google had a lot of involvement with the development of this phone, so, they probably forced samsung to do proper quality control testing on the phone. that, and i believe this basically a galaxy s, v2. (unfortunately for the x hundred thousand people who bought a galaxy s) it was basically the test group for the ns. so, essentially, the ns is a more mature phone even though it is brand spankin' new.

I love the SAMOLED but to get that on your phone...you got to buy Samsung, lol.

Me either :/ I just think it's pretty when the trackball blinks purple/pink/red. Not really sure what they all mean just that white=sms, lol. It's call NO LED between :P I have the stock 4gb but I don't really like listening to music on my phone unless my ipod is dead. It just eats way too much battery during the day if I use my phone to listen to 4+ hrs of music, lol and I don't watch videos on my Nexus, lol. The only reason why I like the SD slot is when I upgrade to a new phone...everything is on my SD card so it's an easy transfer, lol.

*coughs* CLEARPAD2000

The 16GB of space on the NS scares me a bit. I currently have about 1.5 GBs left of my 16 GB card. I am hoping the 32 GB cards go down in price soon.

Roze I am surprised you don't use the LED notification. I find it quite useful, this is my set up:

SMS-Magenta
Gmail 1st account-Green
Gmail 2nd account-Yellow
Email account-white

I find it useful at home when I leave my phone on the counter. If it goes I off I look to see if I need to respond to it or not.

And the Clearpad2000 is the prime example why you shouldn't always put all your faith in google. It is probably the biggest issue I have with the N1.

Well, now we know that for 100% you won't be getting the NS :P lol

I prefer the trackball notification to the LED notification tbh. I find the LED kind of small and not that noticable, lol. It's more like, 'see trackball blink like crazy means I check my phone'. I think I have magenta as my MSN app.

The clearpad2000 is a big disapointment I have with my phone. If it wasn't for that, our Nexus wouldn't be considered as 'outdated' :( Second would be low internal memory, lol.
