Official Nexus 2 Discussion

Think again boys and girls....latest rumors are that the N2 will actually be a tablet. Just like the way the N1 stepped up the hardware game with android phones and forced the companies to start producing fast/better phones, the N2 will do the same, with the best hardware around, but this time with a tablet.

Wow  you just blew my mind...

I respect your opinion alot Harmless which is why I have to say this is a great idea! Makes total sense for Google to "push the tablet industry higher." Thanks for the great perspective Harmless :)

I read the same thing today... its possible

Really? I honestly just completely went off the hip when I wrote that.

ap3604-really kind words, thanks :D

I don't want to turn this into a tablet thread but I am just really disappointed with what is currently out there. When the N1 came out it was one of the first 1ghz phones (the iPhone 3gs was running 600/800?) with a larger then 3.5" screen. It took the iPhone 4 6 months before it came out with similar specs. But now it seems like all the tablets out there are playing catch up and I hate playing catch up. I know Samsung is really trying with the Galaxy Tablet, including trying to get companies to develop more Android tablet friendly software, but it still doesn't tickle my fancy. 1 Ghz processor with 512mb ram doesn't seem all that exciting anymore. I guess it doesn't help that Google doesn't know if they are going to push android tablets or chrome tablets. I would just really like to see some big innovations come from the Android side of the fence.

Also I believe a Galaxy S "Nexus" phone would be a stab in the heart of the iconic blue/read/green/yellow logo. What ever the next product that comes out that bares the Nexus name should be innovated enough to force manufacturers to do something differently, as did the N1 did almost a year ago. Whether it's the way they sell it, the hardware, the software, whatever. A Nexus product that would be outdated in a just a few months would be a fail.

samsung makes sense for an N2 they did everything that google wanted to do. The galaxy S has been a complete success and they got it on all 4 carriers.

they tried to do that w/ the N1 but it didn't work out.

I'd like to think it's true but it really doesn't do anything for me either way. I like the N1 and i haven't seen alot of features that i really like about it on newer phones;

namely the trackball/LED notification system. I don't understand why more manufacturers aren't including this. It's a fantastic feature and extremely useful.

I would assume we'd see more trackpads like the G2 w/ LED's behind them.... but who knows.

i'd really like a shot at an unlocked GSM motorola phone like the X but i won't use CDMA and i won't touch an efuse device.

These rumors are true...The nexus two is not going to be a Samsung phone. The are releasing a different phone..dont believe the hype.

Did Jesus give you this information? :D j/k....

Taking a look at a quote from an article about the Tegra 2:

According to LG, the NVIDIA Tegra 2 features a number of mobile "firsts": the first mobile dual core CPU, the only ultra-low power NVIDIA GeForce GPU and the first 1080p HD mobile video processor. Taking full advantage of the two speedy 1GHz processors sharing the workload in Tegra 2, users are promised up to 2x faster Web browsing and up to 5x faster gaming performance over single core processors running at 1GHz. The NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor is also said to deliver flawless 1080p HD video playback, console-quality gaming and amazing 3D capabilities.

With I believe Motorola and HTC planning phone releases for Q1 of 2011 with this chip, I think it would be foolish for anyone to consider an upgrade that doesn't have the Tegra 2. I also read along the ways of an article that stated that gaming companies were interested in developing games for the Tegra 2 only.

My buying stratergies for a new phone and tablet are the same. Wait out the current offerings until the first signs of the Tegra 2 phones, if the offering on the first ones are good, then I will buy, if it still seems bleak then I will wait to the 2nd generation. Currently my N1 still doesn't dissapoint me (except for the touchscreen, but that always has) and nothing on the market has really wow'ed me yet.

Yeah, same here, if I get a new phone, it'd be with newer technology! Else, I'll still be rocking my Nexus! My main concern is the battery life, I want the killer dual core processors but not at the price of my battery life

Every blog chan is talking about the Tegra 2. I was wondering if there are any processors in the news that are on par with the Tegra, since I haven't read about any other chips.

Whatever you say, none of the rumors really had any consistency. Search around and you'll see that Google said there won't be a Nexus Two (at least not for a while) and Samsung denied it, so it's something else completely different that they're going to release on Nov 8, yes I think it's going to be another Galaxy variant without Touchwiz and possibly the first to ship with Gingerbread, it doesn't mean it'll be the Nexus Two or S.

PS- hopefully by next summer, an NVIDIA phone will be available in Canada and I'd buy one, as long as it doesn't suck like over half the phones we have here.

I'm not gonna hold my breath but I do believe... That a new google dev phone is coming :-) Ahhh why can't I ever just be satisfied with what I have. The n1 is by far the best phone I've ever owned but did some one say N2 lol. Wow at this rate I'm never gonna have a steady relationship or financial situation. But at least my phone will do cool stuff

i was part of a live podcast today with several prominent android bloggers.. Word is that the Nexus S is real and is coming.. things that were mentioned, were.

1.2 processor
Google will offer the phone to all carriers *Tmo is the only one to say yes so far(
Sold exclusively in US by Bestbuy (makes sense they exclusively sell Googletv)
HSPA+ Compatible
Derived from Galaxy S series (word is metal back covering)
Nov 8th possible date, but may come later due to Verizon being present at the Samsung event
Was supposed to make debut a month ago but was delayed to ensure Gingerbread was 100 percent ready.
No touchwiz, supported solely by google (obviously)
Expect Another Google phone mid next year with dual core processor

Remember these are all rumors until confirmed.. But they are strooong rumors

I hope they base it off the Vibrant since that version's radio supports both 1700 and 1900 MHz so that it can be used at full speed internationally, but then add a functional notification LED, and an optical trackpad would probably be nice too.

shit.. I'm gonna wait for the dual core one then!

After all the galaxy s woes which is still ongoing, i'm not surprised its known to be faulty even before it's release.
