Wow, sounds great. Anybody think this device will land on VZW w/ LTE? I would think yes if history repeats it self.

Well the problem with this phone and the HTC is that they were announced at the same time as the monster that is the Motorola Atrix after those specs who can get excited about these two

The Motorola is a beast and this Sammy while not as good imo still trumps the HTC. Looking forward to a big V version of the Sammy

Probably for the herpes that is touchwiz. Fantastic screen though. Just needs to be rooted. Also a previous gen CPU (1 GHz A8 hummingbird core). It's basically a galaxy s with a better and bigger screen.

It's a 1.2ghz hummingbird. So def not previous gen, no dual core sure but still, no slouch either

Nice screen and that's it. It has 2.2 and I can almost assure u it'll have that while 70% of other andriod phones will be running 2.3. I learned my lesson this time with my captivate. January 7 2011 & still no froyo

It's just an overclocked Galaxy S core. Now that the technology is mature, the process can tolerate a 1.2 GHz requirement with acceptable yield.

I thought all the yields run at 1.2ghz without any tricks. Where are you getting this overclocking info? Clocking a chip higher than its recommended speed will not be good for the chip or the company in the long run.

So true.

So true.

There's no such thing as a standard clockspeed. The early chips probably had a certain failure rate at 1.2ghz that was unacceptable so they changed it to 1.0ghz, or if those failed, 800mhz. Its the same with graphics cards. The $500 cards are tested and work okay, while those that fail some tests here and there get kicked down a tier to the $250 range, but its all the same chip with parts disabled, or downclocked, because no one is going to reconfigure the assembly line and the blueprints for a card one tier down as it will be a big waste of money. Now that they have perfected the manufacturing process more, they can afford to bump it up to 1.2ghz. Yeah its a ballpark explanation.

And I really like this phone for some reason. I wanted a 4.3" initially, or 4.5" ideally if something like that existed, because I had the samsung vibrant and thought it was too small, and I hated the build quality and cheap feel. The penTile screen with blue tint was also no good. Even though I am shunning away from Samsung and telling myself I need to change brands (I'm on my third samsung phone now), that 4.5" just roped me right back in. Its too big a coincidence that I had really wanted a 4.5" even though I knew it could not happen as 4.3" was the max, and then of all the brands out there, Samsung just had to give me a small shock. The 4.3" ones I've seen were too small and the 5" Streak was way too big.

Amazingly, mobileburn actually got to TOUCH and photograph the phone, when everyone else was treated like lepers.

Hands-on with the Samsung Infuse 4G smartphone for AT&T Live Photo Gallery

I have no idea why its 12345.

The build quality does look good, with no shiny plastics. Mobileburn says it has a premium feel. That solves one of the big problems I had with the Samsung Vibrant, but the shape is still the same, and I might have a problem with the thin and steepled sides. It's big enough to be a tablet-phone, or my tablet phone at least. As long as the OS is smooth, I'm not too bothered with dual-core and can wait a generation. It seems applications need to be optimized for it, and I don't really know any apps pushing the 1ghz snapdragons even now. Battery life is also a concern, and I'd frankly rather have a bigger screen.

The Motorola Atrix or the LG Optimus 2x look like great powerphones, but you do lose the great 4.5" screen. I am willing to compromise and give up the extra features that the badder phones have. It all depends on your needs.

I personally wish that this phone (hardware wise) would have been the "Pure Google" phone instead of the Nexus S. In practical life I can only use unlocked GSM phones and in principle I will only use vanilla Android (unless of course someone comes along and makes a UI that actually adds to the standard OS instead of impaires it.... yeah right.)

I have the Nexus S and it is pretty good but mostly just b/c Gingerbread is faster than Froyo, and a few other secondary things. NFC is absolutely overhyped BS and at present unnecessary. Now it serves no purpose other than maybe give you the novelty experience of a new way to introduce yourself to advertisements. (which is ****ing bullshit).

But hardware wise there is nothing to get excited about. The Infuse on the other hand is great. A 4.5 screen is awesome, 1.2 GHZ, better screen technology SAMOLED+, higher res front and back cameras. BUT of course, instead of just being an awesome device it will first go through the process of being used as the manufacturers ass rag which they will stain with their custom UI, before it goes on to be used as bate to lure people into the hell that is AT&T.

To hell with all these twisted co-conspirators. I dont want my money going to any of them.

:DAGREED! wow,great post!

this phone looks really nice, but i highly doubt it will get an update to 2.3
I would say that is hard to believe but if i'm not mistaken current Samsung phones have yet to get 2.2 so maybe its not so far fetched???
But with the phone not even out yet i seems feasible that it will get 2.3... eventually
Im actually hearing this might launch with gingerbread hence the delay and no extra info on att website
I would be extremely surprised if it did... never know though

I know this. I'm asking WHERE is this info coming from. I understand how chips are manufactured. It was said the chips speeds are being clocked up and not coming off the line at 1.2. If chip manufacturers were to get yields of just 1ghz and then start clocking up at 2million hertz more on a chip rated to run at 1ghz the longevity of that chip will not be good is what I'm saying.
I will take it for what it is since you mention it's a ballpark explanation.

Honestly, I want to get all excited about the Atrix, but there are a couple of issues that are holding me back:

Moto's are notoriously difficult to root, unlock, mod, whatever. Frankly, I want to get the phone, and on the FIRST DAY, I want every trace of AT&T crap-ware OFF the thing, and I want to be able to customize it to my needs exactly as I see fit. I'm spending the money for it, so why shouldn't I right?

Also, speaking of modding and rooting etc, considering how similar the Nexus S is to the current Samsung hardware out in the wild at the moment, and how similar the Infuse's hardware will likely also be, I suspect the Infuse will be a modder's playground.

On the other hand, DesignGears has made it known that he plans on getting both devices. So who knows? Maybe the Atrix will have hope yet... I can see it now: XDA figures out a way to replace webtop on the Atrix with full blown Ubuntu. Now THAT would be cool!

Idk, I'm still torn...

If the Infuse has an HDMI port, I might just go with that and let the dual core phones mature for a generation or two.

Decisions decisions... :P
