Help [OFFICIAL SOLUTION]Change your vocoder settings to improve voice quality

well its not the handsets fault so i don't see how you can call it an annoyance with the evo 3D specifically. i understand why the reps do not give out this code. one can get in there and wreak havoc! :)

Ok you guys sold me on this. I just made the change and will report back later to add my results to this thread.

On a side note, when I got my e3d I added a new line for my mom and got the discount on the phone then went home and switched my e4g with the e3d so I would have the 3d on my line. I did it on chat and the rep had to give me the msl to reprogram the phone. Funny thing is I didn't realize the code was the MSL until later but I had saved the text of the chat and now it's committed to my address book.

Just another angle for you to try...

MSL on chat????? Lucky!

I got my code, set it to the right settings, no improvement, what does a hard reset do?

It returns the phone to a factory clean state, meaning that many of the problems we suffer in Android from things tangled in cache(s) get squared away. It's my first line of attack when I get wonky problems making no sense, and tends to cure a lot of evil - not all, but most.

I for the life in me can not seem to get my MSL # from Sprint. I have called 3 times to no avail. And yes, I have been very nice and polite, as I am not one to get upset with people. (I work in service, an have worked retail in college, so I know how people can get) I have even tried the online chat, and they would not give it up either. I will continue to try, as this is the only annoyance I have with the 3D.

Wow, I called tech support and merely said I need my MSL number and the lady I spoke to looked it up and gave it without hesitation. Guess its all about which person you end up speaking to.

if one is having issues with calls.. say their handset is not receiving or making calls... this becomes a troubleshooting call and the rep over the phone call will hand out your MSL so you guys can get in there to check the MSID, etc...

We just up and went to the Sprint store, considering it is right across the street from us. Walked in, let the store rep know we were having poor call quality and that we needed our MSL numbers to switch to different settings to improve the call quality. The employee simply typed a few things on his computer and then wrote our MSL numbers on a post it note. Took about two minutes.

I used the CDMA Workshop method and I had my MSL in 5 minutes. Worked perfect.
I called my mom which is 90% of my calls anyway... She said it was definitely clearer. Yesterday it sounded like I was on a old school cell phone. She said today it sounded like I was sitting next to her. I'm pretty cool with that! :)

The annoyance I speak of is call quality. I thought that what this thread was about. I just want something close to what I had with the EVO 4G. The is the first phone I have had since the original iPhone that I have to ask people to repeat themselves multiple times during a conversation. That to me is quite annoying...

I being using my 3D now for about a week after changing the settings and I think it has helped to some degree. I also have not run into any problems while roaming. Hoping this is only a temp fix and that they will be able to provide some kind of update in the near future. The biggest improvement I've found is while using the phone not on speaker. Speaker phone still seems to be somewhat distorted but not as bad as before.

my call quality still sucks, just had a conversation with my boss for about 30 minutes, the whole conversation he sounded choppy, and garbled, and this is after I got my msl number and made those changes, maybe i just got a bad phone, some say there call quality is excellent. this phone would benefit from another mic for noise cancellation

I called 1-888-211-4727 and asked for the MSL and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. What made it worse was neither did I. Help?

help.. with what? you dont know what the MSL is? its been discussed in this thread what it is.

Since I have your attention, the MSL is a numeric code used to gain access to super secret functions of your handsets radio and proxy settings. one should proceed with caution when snooping around in there. if you dont have the MSL you can not use the tips in this thread.

I encourage you to smoke this thread over for more info.:)

its your phone unlock code, its very easy to get, when you call sprint just ask for your msl or unlock code and they will ask why you need it, and then just say you want to change a couple of your voice settings and they will give it to you, i just did it this morning and it took literaly 2 mins

Have the NEW Airwave (got 6/11) these settings also don't work for me. B enabled with home and roam set to B outgoing calls are just garbled. B enabled with home on B and roam set back to stock same problem. Had to go back to original settings.

One work around for some might be to run these settings and use an app called Roam Control to force the phone onto another network's tower. This doesn't work for me since the Verizon tower I kick to isn't much better (verizon 2-3 bars sprint 0-1 bars out of 6) than the sprint one.

Hope to hear of a solution

yes its been confirmed by myself and a couple others in this thread that these settings do not work with the current airvana/airave. thanks for your confirmation also.. :)

A note in the OP to say "this will force a reboot of your phone" would be nice, for those of us who weren't expecting it, and may have not had other things saved.

Lifesaver...my girl on the TBolt said that my voice quality stayed the same (pretty clear) but on my end she sounded so much better. Does this do that? I know that previously people sounded like they were mumbling. It could possibly be placebo but it sounds so so much better. I need to try with more people tomorrow.

I know I'm centuries late on this. But I been running into some issues with my Airvana not allowing me to send texts but receive texts via 3G. I also have Roam Control which seems like the Airwave doesnt like, (seems to keep knocking my phone off network then reconfigures back to Verizon). I'm going to see if I too have the gurgled quality when making calls with the setting mentioned. I was also wondering if I change my Evo 3D settings to my Evo settings should that fix voice quality. Reason I'm asking is I have both phones and never ran into this issue of not being able to send texts outgoing on Airvana with Evo or calls. Thinking something is either 3D is missing something Evo has or maybe these setting discussed have something to do with it. Was wondering if anyone tried doing this already...

Thanks
