Root guide:Tried looking all over to root my lg volt from freedom pop and I can't get it to work. Thought I would try this method. I get all the way to searching for the apn and when i click on it I get a message that says "su: not found". Help!
Yes, yes I can, now.10) You can now toggle "Wi-Fi hotspot" on and enjoy wireless tethering!

If nothing else works, you can use KingRoot to get root, install TWRP, then immediately wipe your phone (everything except the external SD) and install a properly rooted ROM. This should be a last resort though as KingRoot is not trusted.
Which method were you trying? Use the DP Tools method. When I tried that guide I had the same problem - the phone starts the root, tries to reboot into recovery mode, then the program stalls as the phone reboots into regular mode. No idea why, never rooted a phone before.

OK, so I wiped my phone, went back to original software, updated, and rerooted. Now I don't have the tether menu anymore. I've tried rewiping and installing the ROM I was on, redid all this tether stuff, used the APN fix, etc, still nothing. I can turn on tethering, but since it's not configured, it can't enable. Anyone know how to enable the menu?
EDIT: Got it fixed... For anyone else, you seem to use shortcut master and search ChameleonNodeMenu. Launch it, find Tethered Data, and set it to 2 or 4 to enable the Wi-Fi Tether menu.
Value 4 will also enable USB tether
If I remember, this whole tether enable trick works well but parts may be reset if the phone is reprovisioned/reactivated. Maybe the APN part?
I've noticed I keep having to readd the 'dun' type to the APN on my phone. Haven't noticed anything that could be triggering it to reset though... I don't use tethering a whole lot, so it just seems random to me.If I remember, this whole tether enable trick works well but parts may be reset if the phone is reprovisioned/reactivated. I FINALLY got it working! For those of you that have had issues trying all the other methods and could use what I learned, here you go broken down Barney Style:
I used Shortcut Master (Lite) by vndnguyen from Play Store.
1) After installing and then launching the app, go to upper right corner menu and tap the three dots.
2) Do a search (third option from top in menu) for "Apn".
3) Towards the bottom, there are three "com.lge.hiddenmenu" options in white letters. IMPORTANT: Tap the middle option that reads "com.lge.hiddenmenu.vzw_only.ApnSettings" in gray letters under it.
4) Tap on "Launch" (picture of the rocket ship).
5) Tap on "internet" option at the top.
6) Go down and tap on "APN type". IMPORTANT: Now add ",dun" at the end of "default, mms". VERY IMPORTANT: When done, it should be "default, mms, dun". Tap "OK".
7) Go to upper right corner menu and tap the three dots. Tap on "Save". Exit out of app and reboot the phone.
8) When phone boots up, go to "Settings" and under "Wireless Networks" at the top, tap on "More...". The option is located below "Call" and "Share & connect" that are below the toggle switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, etc.
9) Tap on "Wi-Fi hotspot" and then tap on "Set up Wi-Fi hotspot". Set security (WPA2 PSK is best) and a password. A password is IMPORTANT! You should change Network SSID to "C:\Virus.exe", "Network Not Found", "Hidden Network" or whatever you like. Tap "Save".
10) You can now toggle "Wi-Fi hotspot" on and enjoy wireless tethering!
