Root Official TWRP Recovery

Yes it is much better but I can't scroll by holding down the vol keys. Am I missing something?

awsome! thank you, kind sir. downloading now!

long as the touch scrolling works, ill be happy :D

ill let you know in a few if my vol rocker works or not.

also looks like a new easter egg

edit:
well im bummed out now. no hold vol rocker to speed scroll,no touch scroll,no capacitive button function. just rocker and power. and apparently racehorse is hidden somewhere else other than vol+/vol-, i couldnt find him ;)

im debating going back to the "unofficial" version. at least maybe till they add capacative buttons and the other stuff :(

I am thinking I will be staying on the unofficial version, I could part with emo horse <tear) but the other functions are important to me.

So I've never tried this before. What makes it different from (or even better that) ROM manager?

You should stop using ROM Manager ASAP. I'm going to pretend you didn't just admit you use it ;) Start doing things manually through recovery and save yourself numerous future headaches.

TWRP is better than CWM in every way possible. Literally, there is nothing that CWM can do that TWRP can't, but there are multiple things that TWRP can do that CWM can't

LOL. I yeild to those with more experience. One last question. If I have a backup under Clockwork, can I still use it or transfer it to work with TWRP?

No, they are interflashable (yea, I made up my own word :p) Best thing to do if you have a backup you can't live without is restore your backup, then flash TWRP and make new backup with TWRP

Don't do it. The new version backups are not compatible with the older version and it's time to update everything. The options are better even tho vol rocker doesn't work. The backups and restores are way quicker too. They'll get the interface working again with touch. Hang in there.

If he hasn't made a backup yet then there's no reason why he can't switch back and wait for the official release to include all the unofficial tweaks ;)

I believe it would be un-interflashable. Could be wrong, though.

They are Un-interswitchable. You can always save a backup and reflash your old twrp if you need to restore. The options on the new version outweigh the scrollable ability on the old version. bymmv.

what new options? memory escapes me at the moment what one had the other didnt. im really not worried about the backups being un-interflashable and un-interswitchable (i think :p) its no big deal for me to change recoveries around-just a quick name chagne with astro file manager :D being the nandroid hoarder i am,ive got backups from CW,amon, and TWRP all on my phone still

im pretty accustomed to the touch scroll and capacative buttons, unless you can convince me these options are really worth it. :D

Ya killin' me. Do I do it from memory or flash recovery? Ok, need a backup anyway.. give me a sec.
Ok, choose zip to flash will allow you to do multiple zips
clear zip queue .. in case you f up
sort zips by date!! A biggie
How many times are you unsure of which file you d/l first or last only to have to reboot to root explorer to it? See..

Ok one last one. The backups and restore take half the time.

Tell you what though... I miss the scrolling. But this will be the format now and soon enough we'll get the interface we're used to.

PS. Full backup to reboot 200 sec.

All those new features sound great, but I think I'll wait till the capacative buttons and other goodies are working before switching

Can't argue with that. But what goodies other than capacitive buttons? The touch screen thing was awful.

Touch scrolling was very useful for me and the rapid scroll with volume rocker. Those 3 things, plus the ability to change colors are the main reason I use TWRP

Why is TWRP better than CWM? I ask because I've always used CWM and I'm curious what the advantages of TWRP are. Thanks.

Ummm....... Wow! Flashed this last night and it's going to take me a bit to learn everything it can do, but you are right Worm - It'll do dang near anything and then some!

Scotty - if you know of some instructions posted somewhere on how to convert CWM backups to TWRP ones I'd love to see the link.

Regardless, I have a new "toy" to play with to fine tune my TB and I'll have to bookmark Team Win to keep up with them also now. :D

sorry,i dont know of any such thing. the only thing i know is if you need to restore an older clockwork backup, you can either flash CWR from rom manager and boot to it,or you can keep a renamed PG05IMG clockwork file on your sd card. i keep one for all recoveries,so even if im not at home,if i need a different backup i just:
1)use astro file manager to rename that backups file PG05IMG
2)boot to hboot,flash recovery
3)reboot phone
4)use astro to rename the PG05IMG back to whatever it was(so hboot wont find it)
5)boot to recovery to do whatevr you needed to do(like restore a backup)
6)if youre "converting" a backup, repeat 1-4 to restore whatever recovery you want to use.
7)make a new backup with this recovery.

another excellent recovery choice(not to hijack, but since it came up) is Amon Ra. it has options to restore either the backups it made,or backups made by old or new clockwork. it doesnt have quite the options of TWRP,but if you want something thats NOT clockwork, and being able to restore clockwork backups is important(without any extra effort or fuss),definately check it out.

Thanks Scotty - that's a simple enough trick to remember if I need it. I figured it'd be more complicated than that, but renaming the files should do the trick. I don't have that many old backups to get too complicated. ;)

yeah its pretty easy. i just rename them like PG05IMG(twrp),PG05IMG(cw5.0.2.1). ive also got a could different radio files on my sd for just in case purposes, lol.

as much as i hoard my nandroids i hardly ever actually restore them. i helped the developer that ported Amon test and troubleshoot, and spent alot of time restoreing and backing up with it.i liked it alot,i just liked the capacative buttons and touch scrolling of the unofficial twrp :D

By capacitive buttons, do you mean the 4 on the bottom, ie. home, search? If so they still work on 1.1.1. Color changes / themes are there too. I never used the touch function, never worked for me, but I do miss the scroll feature. I hate having to punch the vol button so much. But I won't go back simply because of the multiple zips and time it takes to backup and restore are so much quicker.
