official verizon ruu

is this a leak or the official manual update? i got a refurb with 1.5 ad and need official 2.1.

Don't do it if you have a clean 1.5 device, either root or go to system settings and about phone, system updates to get official 2.1 OTA

What's the difference? I had clean 1.5 but when update came out didn't want too wait and manually updated, phone is working perfectly.

It should change your bootloader to be unrootable, well not necessarily unrootable but with this process extremely unlikely

If you're on a device with 1.5, don't use the RUU to upgrade to 2.1. Either wait for the OTA or find the post on this forum that contains the OTA zip. It should be about 77mb, I believe.

It makes your phone unrootable (If you don't get what root is, think of it sort of like a jailbreak for an iPhone/iPod, and it lets you do a lot more things with your phone). There isn't anything inherently wrong with the RUU. But it will become much harder to root. You might not care now, but if you change your mind down the road, you WILL regret it.

Call 611 and get a verizon rep to push the software. If you load the software using a PC, then you'll get the hard-to-root bootloader.

My advice is root the phone using the instructions and flash the leak4rombase.zip file from the link in my sig. That's the official verizon 2.1v3 but has root enabled.

But what if I don't care about rooting? I don't see myself having any need to do that, I mean I paid $49 for this phone so if there comes a time when I want it to do more I would just get a new phone like an incredible or better...

There is nothing "official" about the "official 2.1 RUU", BTW.

Straight up, it's a leak.

It may well be that it is used by VZW techs, and it most certainly did come from HTC, because it passes crypto checks performed by the phone, but it was never publicly released by VZW or HTC's distribution partner (PCD phones)... the way that the MR1 and MR2 RUUs were.

Official? Hardly.

There is thread over in the root section that describes how to manually download and perform the OTA2.1 update - let me try and find that, and I'll post the link.

funny, went to a verizon store on my lunch, said they couldn't do it and to wait fo the update message, call 611 said they don't have the ability to push the software on hold now while he tries to get hold of HTC...fun fun fun...

Verizon guy said HTC guy said phone checks every 14 days for updates & to watch for a text message telling me about an update....who knows....It's running fine the way it is so I guess I can wait another couple of weeks to see what happens...

says i have software version 1.17.605.1

time to upgrade?

ETA: when I do menu > settings > about phone > system updates

it says system is currently up to date. WHY?

My phone is the exact same! 1.17.605.1 & says system is currently up to date, but no pinch to zoom or google navigator :(

what's google navigator and pinch to zoom? I 'think' i have pinch to zoom. just zoom in and out when reading a webpage to make it larger/smaller?

no, not web, from your home page. Google navigator is talking turn by turn GPS I think/hope :)

Indeed it is.

Perhaps the OTA has not been pushed to your number; I believe that is the only time the "menu > settings > about phone > system updates " is functional. I don't know what the status is anymore with regard to Verizon pushing the OTA update. Manually updating may be the best option at this point.

so what do i do/tell them when i call 611

I think that was a suggestion to call the customer service and request they push the update to your phone number. I have also read that they (customer service) do not have this ability. I have not read about anyone being successful that way.

could do nothing for me over the phone. told me the locations to where i can get the 2.3.6.605 version. is that what I want?

not fully clear what the difference is if I do the update vs me taking it to a store and having THEM do it.
