Offline GPS?

I just got back from England and Egypt. I pre-cached areas for Google Maps in both countries, and loaded the countries in MapDroyd. I could never get a GPS fix of any kind in either country with GPS Status or anything else, so I wasn't able to use GPS on my Sprint Epic 4G Touch at all. :(

Pre caching maps on Google is a halfway solution. Its ok in a pinch, but if you're moving around in a foreign country you really need a true GPS solution. I think I'm gonna go with Sygic since they have a free trial. Also the license for Europe, North America and parts of S America is only 50 euros or so-a good deal IMO
