"Ok Google" from any screen disappeared

I initially had the free version and Ok Google worked from any screen, then I got the paid version to get the email and message count display. No change in functionality of Ok Google between free and paid for me.

"OK Google" working! Had the same issue as everyone else on my S6 Edge. Have to make sure S-Voice is enabled, AND have to make sure "Voice wake-up" and "Wake up in secured lock" are both turned OFF in S-Voice settings. Hope this works for everybody!
Well this partially worked for me. OK Google works on the home screen only.

I'm also having this issue. It's my first time using an Android phone so I thought I'd accidentally messed something up!

Picked up my Samsung galaxy s6 on Wednesday. Played with the ok google feature all day wednesday/Thursday.

That's the last time I specifically remeber using it, went to try last night (Sunday) and no dice. All the options are gone.

My partner's Sony Xperia z3 has okay google working fine.

I've tried enabling and disabling s-voice, with and without wake up and lock screen turned on. I've tried uninstalling google now and reinstalling.

Can only get it to work when I manually press the mic button on the google search app/widget.

Get Google Now on all screens:
Disable Google Play Services (GPSvcs)
Uninstall updates to GPSvcs
Enable GPSvcs and update it
In Google Apps settings, "Search and Now" - "Voice"- "OK Google detection"
Turn on "From any screen"

Phandroid is reporting that the problem has been fixed on Google's end:
  • You need to be on the latest version of the Google Search app — version 4.5 — so be sure to double check.
  • It doesn’t hurt to make sure you have the latest version of Google Play Services, which is 7.5.71.
  • You can’t use Samsung’s S Voice hotword detection while using the OK Google command from anywhere, unless you are fine with using it only when the display is off. Users can disable S Voice hotword detection to avoid this conflict.
And straight from the horse's community manager's mouth over at the Google Search Help Forum:
Hi everyone,

We sincerely thank you for your patience again as this was sorted out. The team was working on smoothing out some compatibility issues, and this missing feature was an unintended result of it. However, as mentioned in previous messages, the engineering team was made aware of this high-priority issue when users initially reported it and they have been diligently working on providing a solution since.

Now, we are happy to share that the "From any screen" function has been fixed for S6 and S6 Edge devices on the Google Search App (GSA), and the fix is actively rolling out to users. To ensure that this feature becomes available to you soon, please ensure that you are running the most up-to-date version of GSA (4.5+). Please note that “Ok Google” from any screen will be available, however remaining compatibility issues mean that turning on the feature will limit the availability of S-voice hotwording to only when the screen is off. Users who prefer to avoid this can turn off “Ok Google” from any screen.

Thank you again for your feedback and patience as we got to the bottom of this!

I swear that my new S6 Edge had the ability to verbally recognize "Ok Google" from any screen. However, now I can only do it from the Google app. When I go into the app to change my Settings > Voice > "Ok Google" Detection, my only choice is "From the Google app".

Where did my other options go? I swear that I had "From any screen" earlier this week when I got the phone.

Am I mistaken, or did I inadvertently turn off or hide my option for "From any screen"?

Thanks fo
Just contacted Google customer service per the phone number listed above (thanks).

Of course the rep hadn't heard of the problem.....and I pointed him to the androidforums-s6 thread. Wow!

He promised to escalate the information. We'll see what happens.
If you device is rooted, I could assist you in fixing it

This may not be the case for everyone, but this is what happened to me how i fixed it, hopefully it helps somebody and saves them an hour or two. My phone-Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

THE PROBLEM: I lost "Ok Google" from my home screen search bar the second I decided to try S Voice.

THE FIX: go into S Voice settings and towards the bottom you'll see an option to wipe stored information from S Voice servers (Something along those lines, I'm too scared to reactivate S voice and go through this again, but you'll know it when you see it) after clearing the stored info, simply power off your unit then power back on. Reset may work as well, but I powered mine completely off.

Again, I hope it works for somebody.

Hey, that worked for me. Ok, Google now again works from any screen! Enormous thanks!

I have an Xperia T2 Ultra and I followed this from tazio -

Get Google Now on all screens:
Disable Google Play Services (GPSvcs)
Uninstall updates to GPSvcs
Enable GPSvcs and update it
In Google Apps settings, "Search and Now" - "Voice"- "OK Google detection"
Turn on "From any screen"

Went thru the whole rigmarole and got it back to latest 8.3, still nada. Is this an issue with the Sony T2 I wonder.
